SCP Annotation: Statue To Medusa
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept In a 6mx6mx6m Cell, facing away from the entryway at all times, except during testing. Markers are to be placed in a 2mx2mx2m cube around SCP-XXXX, Designated as the Red Zone. All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be kept in the testing area at all times, but must be disposed of on a monthly basis. All persons/personnel not associated with testing are to wear at Least Level-A Hazmat Gear and specially designed One-Way Goggles when entering the cell/Red Zone. Should a SCP-XXXX-E3 Event occur, all instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be terminated, disposed of by incineration, and Disposal Schedule reset.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a statue of a woman’s head, resembling that of Greek character Medusa. In place of the hair, Multiple Snakes can be observed, and the mouth contains largely enhanced Canines, presumably made to resemble fangs. The origins of this statue are unknown, although Radiometric Dating devices have shown the object to have existed since at least 323 BC. The object was found in Greece, confiscated from a man named [DATA REDACTED] who had found the object during a spelunking expedition. He then showed it to his family, which then proceeded to become instances of SCP-XXXX-1. He then called Police in a distressed state, which then reported the incident to Foundation Personnel. It is unknown how he managed to avoid becoming an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. He has been taken into Foundation Custody for Questioning.
SCP-XXXX has two effects: A passive effect(SCP-XXXX-E1), and a Red Zone effect(SCP-XXXX-E2). When in SCP-XXXX-E1, SCP-XXXX will slowly begin to transmute objects around it into marble, at a rate of approx ⅕ of the body per hour (See Addendum 1-A). However, this does not affect walls, ceilings, or floors. Furthermore, SCP-XXXX only appears to affect living creatures, and certain plastics as well as other materials. This effect only occurs while no living entity occupies the Red Zone. When a living entity enters the Red Zone, SCP-XXXX-E2 activates. SCP-XXXX loses the effect of SCP-XXXX-E1, and will no longer transmute objects passively. During the state of SCP-XXXX-E2., it will instantly transmute any living entity into stone that looks directly at its face. This only occurs during face to face contact: Video and Camera Feeds and Mirror Reflections are unaffected. This allows for easy documentation of test results. The affected entity becomes an instance of SCP-XXXX-1, and seems to gain the properties of SCP-XXXX-E1, but not SCP-XXXX-E2. All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be treated as an instance of SCP-XXX. Should any SCP-XXXX-1 be removed from within the chamber radius before at least one month has passed, an SCP-XXXX-E3 event will occur.
SCP-XXXX is shown to have a conscience, and can feel emotions, but cannot speak or express them in any way. When angered or agitated, SCP-XXXX will open its mouth, revealing its teeth to a full extent, he method at which the mouth moves unknown. This triggers an SCP-XXXX-E3 event. All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will become SCP-XXXX-2. All instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are extremely hostile, and have been shown to exert extreme strength and movement speed. However, due to being made of marble, they are extremely fragile if shot in the right spot of the body, yet are also extremely durable, resisting several high-powered rounds from an anti-personnel rifle and still standing, apparently unharmed. Should an SCP-XXXX-E3 event occur, all instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are to be eliminated, then remains are to be disposed of, preferably by incineration, since remains of SCP-XXXX-2 still exhibit properties of SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-2 have only shown hostility towards human beings, specifically Foundation Personnel. They show no hostility towards D-Class Subjects, Animals, or other sentient creatures. The reason for this is still being researched by Foundation Personnel.
Addendum 1-A: After extensive research and testing, it has been shown that SCP-XXXX-E1 goes through multiple stages of progression, based on hours of exposure. It should that be noted that, after stage 3, all changes are irreversible. If a subject leaves the range of SCP-XXXX, all changes will reverse over the time it took to cause those changes.
STAGE 1: ~1 Hour of Exposure: Subject will begin to show signs of slight transmodification; skin becoming smoother and harder, similar to marble. No other changes noted in subject. Subject often reports “Feeling anxious.”
STAGE 2: 1-2 Hours of Exposure: Subject’s skin becomes more solid: shows slight resistance from physical injury. Subject reports feelings of slight nausea. This is due to bodily scans showing organs being slowly converted to marble.
STAGE 3: 2-4 Hours of Exposure: Subject’s skin becomes near completely solid; movements are extremely rigid, if movement can occur at all. Subject shows clear discomfort and pain during this stage. Bodily Scans show that organs are approximately 50% marble at this stage. This begins to commence Total Organ Failure.
STAGE 4: 4+ Hours of Exposure: [DATA REDACTED]
STAGE 5: 5+ Hours of Exposure: Subject’s vital signs have ceased at this point; Subject shows no brain waves. Bodily scans have shown total conversion of all internal organs to marble. At this point, subject has made a complete conversion to an entity of SCP-XXXX-1
