Bronze colossus

Item #: SCP-00dead (I use 00dead because I sometimes use #00dead as a placeholder color)
Object Class: Euclid
Special containment Procedures: When SCP-00dead is not being accessed by researchers a manhole cover is to be placed on top to keep unauthorized people away from SCP-00dead and the observation tube. In the case of containment failure patrols disguised as road or park maintenance crews shall survey the expected area of reformation. The patrols shall measure and photograph any and all occurrences of stagnant pools of water, hereafter referenced as “puddles”, including their surface area, position and depth. If a suspected instance of SCP-00dead have been found the immediate surrounding shall be closed off. Until an supervisor has verified the reformation of SCP-00dead the patrols shall continue. If a civilian falls into SCP-00dead before foundation personal have it contained foundation trained lifeguards are authorized to enter SCP-00dead to rescue any civilians in need. If loss of civilian life have occurred or are to be expected please see resource plan-2A.

Description: (The puddle on our side) SCP-00dead appears in shallow murky puddles that have formed after rain. There are no external visual ques that a puddle houses an instance of SCP-00dead, except one can not see the bottom, which also serves as the apparent criteria for SCP-00deads formation. At the bottom of the puddle SCP-00dead forms the entrance to a seemingly underground body of water. The depth and expansiveness of this body of water extends further than one normally would expect of a ordinary puddle. Digging in from the side have failed to create a secondary entrance, enlargement of the puddles circumference by means of digging have shown successful results, see addendum-2.

//(Characteristics of the ocean inside the scp)
Exploration of SCP-00dead have shown an underwater environment similar to that of found under the Antarctic ice sheets. If SCP-00dead leads to the Antarctic region is yet been determined. The measured temperature of the water have shown it to be 4° C and have a measured salinity around 32ppt. The entrance is located in the ceiling which is made of of ice of an unknown thickness. When SCP-00dead forms during winter in an area of snow and the ice in the ceiling is luminescent in a manner reminiscent of natural light shinning through the ice greatly increasing the range of visibility. The depth of SCP-00dead varies between 25-28m beneath the ice sheet in a surging landscape. A variety of starfish occupies the sea floor, with sparsely growing coral found in some places. Human skeletal remains have been found through out the explored region. Of the bodies where identification was possible they give positive matches to missing persons in the area of SCP-00dead area of activity. Autopsies of recovered bodies have been inconclusive to the cause of death since no soft tissue have remained, most likely eaten postmortem by the local fauna. Several man made objects have been found during explorations such as soda and beer cans, bicycles and in one instance one car.

//(Movement patterns)
SCP-00dead usually remains coupled to the same puddle for for 1-4 days unless artificially kept open. The puddle will dry up with the disappearance of SCP-00dead. After drying up SCP-00dead can reappear in any suitable puddle within a ~2 km distance from the previous formation. The movement pattern of SCP-00dead formation is often of a semi-random fashion but SCP-00dead can remain in a geographically closed area over a extended period of time, a behavior named clustering. Locations for clustering have been correlated primarily to areas of playgrounds, () and schools. The reason for this behavior is yet unknown.

Addendum 1 – Containment failure

Containment break occurred when heating element lost power when the municipal power grid experienced a brownout event.
Outcome: Re haul of the monitoring system so that the backup power supply get switched earlier in case of power drops. An audit of the containment procedures were made that found faults in the power system. The drop in voltage caused the heating element to run at significantly reduced effect over an extended period of time. The voltage drop was at the same time not large enough to trigger to trigger the backup power supply. The reduced effect was not enough to melt the ice and thus the gate froze over and closed. That the SCP-00dead had broken the containment was first discovered 4 hours the brownout event occurred. As per the special containment procedures the on-site team relocated the SCP after 1.5 hours of searching.
and before foundation personal relocated it a six year old fell into SCP-00dead. It appears that the boy was leapfrogging from puddle to puddle whilst playing. Foundation personal heard the screaming and found the boy splashing around. Except for hypothermia no physical injuries was recorded.

Addendum 2 - Enlargement of puddle

1. Core drilling around SCP-00dead gives negative results.
2. Enlargement of the puddle is shown possible.

Addendum 3 - Installation of the observation platform

To facilitate dry study of SCP-00dead a underwater viewing platform is installed.

Addendum 4 - The puddle on ice

An formation of 00dead in a wake on the river.

Addendum 5 – A study of the puddle formation, occurrence and frequency

Method: By having foundation personal record puddles and their characteristics a statistical model have been built to better understand SCP-00dead.
Result: Bellow is a map over ###, overlaid is the recorded formations of SCP-00dead during the period of 1998-06-12 – 2008-02-31.
