Item#: SCP-X
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The only known instance of SCP-X is currently contained within a glass container on Site-17. SCP-X must not be inserted in the cartridge slot of a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) aside from testing.
Description: SCP-X is a physical copy of a computer game titled "The Revenge of the last Hero". The cartridge is designated SCP-X, while the video game within the cartridge is designated SCP-X-1.
Originally, there were one hundred and twelve (112) instances of SCP-X, but they were all destroyed, except for one, which is now in Foundation custody.
SCP-X-1 was published on 07/12/13 by "High mind studios" which was founded three years before the video game's release date. Every copy of "The Revenge of the last Hero" known to the Foundation has been anomalous, thus, the game is now designated SCP-X-1. See Addendum(s) for more details.
The anomalous effect of SCP-X is triggered once a human subject (now designated SCP-X-3) begins 'playing' SCP-X-1. The game's FPS (a term used to signify how many frames are shown per second while the game is being played) will begin to lower periodically. When SCP-X-3 begins playing, SCP-X-1 runs at 60fps. SCP-X-1's FPS will decrease by 10fps each minute as long as SCP-X-3 continues playing.
If SCP-X-3 stops playing, SCP-X-1's FPS stops decreasing. At this point, a process designated SCP-X-2 will begin.
SCP-X-2: SCP-X-3's vision will start to deteriorate in an unknown manner. Instances of SCP-X-3 report that their vision's deterioration is similar to that of SCP-X-1's drop in FPS. When a video game's FPS is low, every movement looks less fluid, and more "choppy" as subjects have described it.
SCP-X-2 ends when SCP-X-3's visual deterioration has reached a point where the level of fluidness it sees can be comparable to that of SCP-X-1 when it stopped playing it. In other words, SCP-X-3's 'FPS' stops dropping at the same point in which SCP-X-1's FPS stopped dropping.
If SCP-X-3 stops playing SCP-X-1 when it's FPS was zero, it's vision will eventually be nothing more than a still frame, once SCP-X-2 has finished.
Addendum_SCP-X_Discovery_Log_(Incident-X-1): SCP-X was first discovered on 07/12/13, in Miass, Russia. Forty eight (48) instances of SCP-X were sold to civilians. After several reports of people suddenly becoming blind, the Foundation was called to investigate.
This event was designated Incident-X-1. Afterwards, Operation-X-1 was approved, and carried out by MTF Kappa-1 (Sandmen).
Addendum_Operation-X-1_(MTF Kappa-1): All forty eight (48) instances were confiscated and brought to Site-17.
After the events of Incident-X-1, every russian broadcast network was prohibited to showcase the events of Incident-X-1. Airborne Class B and Class A amnestics were administered throughout Miass (amnestic administration attempt failed. See Addendum Incident-X-2). Additionally, sixty three (63) people outside of Miass who were confirmed to have heard about Incident-X were administered Class A amnestics (amnestic administration attempt successful).
Addendum_Incident-X-2: Eleven hours after the events of Incident-X-1, a man named Jorji Stepanov hacked into Russia Today (a russian broadcasting network) and claimed to have created SCP-X (See Addendum_Stepanov_Broadcast_Log). Following the events of this incident, Operation-X-2 was approved and carried out by MTF Kappa-2 (Cleanup).
It is believed that while Operation-X-2 was pending approval, Jorji Stepanov administered an unknown chemical to the entire population of Miass. This chemical might be a modified Class-Z amnestic, or an amnestic-like anomaly. It is unknown how Stepanov was able to administer it to such a large population, or if it was even administered at all. But if it was administered, it would explain why Operation-X-1's amnestic administration attempt was a failure.
Addendum_Stepanov_Broadcast_Log_(Translated from Russian):
<BEGIN LOG>
Greetings. I am Jorji Stepanov. Some of you may remember me as that weird guy across the street that spent all day on his basement doing god-knows-what. Well, now you know what I've been doing. In those three years I've been working, I have made numerous advances in the field of science that "actual" researchers have been trying to solve for decades.
After you bought your long-anticipated copy of "The Revenge of the last Hero" you might've realized that everything started looking a little… off… like a stop-motion film. Or that might've been what your son described to you after he stopped playing. Anyway, chances are, your vision now consists of a single, still, frame. Now, how is that even possible? How was I able to create such an… anomaly? *Stepanov laughs*
Well, that's a smart guy's secret… *Stepanov laughs* and the best part is… *Continues laughing* I'm not even done yet! Who knows what kind of fantastic machinery… that, that science can't even explain… who knows what I can do? Well… you certainly don't.
<END LOG>
Addendum_Operation-X-2_(MTF Kappa-2):
MTF Kappa-2 (Cleanup) tracked Stepanov's house, and breached it.
Sixty three (63) instances of SCP-X were found in Jorji Stepanov's basement, along with a diary (see Addendum Text transcription Item-07). Jorji Stepanov was interviewed by MTF Agent Freude, (See interview X) before detonating a hydrogen bomb, destroying his house, killing all of MTF Kappa-2, destroying every instance of SCP-X in the apartment, (the one in foundation custody was found at a later date inside a trash can. It is unknown how it got there) and also destroying the diary.
