Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX area is closed off to any civilians under the disguise of a protected wild life reserve. The surrounding area must be patrolled by all times by Foundation Security staff under the disguise of National Park Service Rangers. The building in which the entrance to the complex containing SCP-XXXX is located has the appearance of a National Park Service Ranger building. The building itself must be patrolled by Foundation Security staff at all times to prevent unauthorized personnel or civilians entering SCP-XXXX.

The building itself houses a sub-unit of Mobile Task Force Beta-7 ''Maz Hatters'' named Beta-7-Charlie ''Bug Hunters''. Due to the dangerous and biological properties of the anomaly, a presence of Beta-7-Charlie is required at all times to prevent containment breach of any instances of SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX's containment complex houses at least Two (2) Stryker Infrantry Carrier Vehicles fitted with military-grade flamethrowers and a Moore Houwitser Cannon1 aimed towards the entrance of SCP-XXXX

Every Three (3) months, a Type-1 Moore Incendiary Shell must be fired inside SCP-XXXX. This is too prevent the population within SCP-XXXX to get past a non manageable number of instances.

In the event of a breach of an SCP-XXXX instance, the nearby Site-39 must be warned for additional MTF forces to be deployed to quickly contain or terminate the SCP-XXXX instance.

Description: SCP-XXXX is located in a huge, underground cave system located near ██████, Nevada, USA. By the use of surface and in-cave scanning, the cave system has been estimated to fit in a square of Two (2) by Three (3) kilometers. As the cave system excists out of multiple layers within this square, the precise size is not yet known. However, it is estimated to at least go 100 meters into the ground. The cave system has only One (1) main entrance. Smaller entrances, in which insects or bugs could enter SCP-XXXX, are being searched and closed.

SCP-XXXX is an anomulous area of effect in which mainly the size and behavior is changed of any insect or small animal. Sometimes, this also includes changes on a DNA level. Wether it is the cave system itself, or an anomulous object of some sort is the cause of this is not known. Any expedition into SCP-XXXX has not lead to the discovery of the source of this effect.

The cave system itself which houses SCP-XXXX has it's own eco system of regular flora and fauna that has been changed a lot. So far there have been several sightings of this:

  • Black Widow and Wolf Spiders with an height of Three (3) meters. These spiders are on the top of the food chain within the eco system of SCP-XXXX.
  • A Desert Cottontail with an approxiamte height of Two and a half (2,5) meters. This particular instance of SCP-XXXX appeared to have no fur, but a smooth skin. The instance was also skinner and had teeth which are common with predators.
  • Mojave Sand Verbena's with a height of Five (5) meters. No other anomulous properties found.
  • Grass varying in height between One (1) and Five (5) meters. No other anomulous properties.
  • Flies with a lenght of One (1) meter. Do not appear to be hostile towards living creatures, but quickly find and dispose of death bodies. They appear to be the ''cleaners'', similiar to vultures.
  • Pale Kangaroo Mouses with a lenght of One and a half (1,5) meters. Only aggresive when provoked or defending itself. Herbivores.
  • Unknown type of ant with a lenght of half a meter. Only aggresive when provoked. While they are dangerous alone but easily dealth with, they always travel in packs of at least Four (4).

Some animals and insects appear to be unaffected by SCP-XXXX normal effects or are effected in another way. This includes:

  • Grasshoppers, butterflies and caterpillars entering SCP-XXXX will die, likely terminated by SCP-XXXX itself.
  • Larger animals, such as wolves, bears and mooses, are entirely unaffected by SCP-XXXX and can enter without problem, but will likely die because of the dangerous fauna.

Instances affected by SCP-XXXX appear to also have a heightend resistance for both blunt force and piercing attacks. However, they seem to be rather weak against fire-based weapons. This has been proven effective to keep instances of SCP-XXXX at bay.

While it is known and observed that insects and animals entering SCP-XXXX will eventually be affected by it, it is not yet known how these instances can reproduce. No instances have been found that could be described as hatchlings or newborn and there have been no encouters of nests. It is theorized that these nest may be somewhere near the bottom of the cave system.

Because the spiders are on the top of the food chain within the eco system of SCP-XXXX, and lay a lot of eggs in their life cycle, they have the biggest presence within SCP-XXXX. How they survive is not known, as it would not be possible for them to survive in such great numbers with the amount of prey animals observed within SCP-XXXX. This also counts for the flora found within SCP-XXXX which normally would need sunlight, but still trive in the darkness of SCP-XXXX.

Addendum XXXX-Alpha-1: SCP-XXXX was discovered by Foundation Agents after a rumour surfaced of a group of miners finding a massive cave which housed enormous spiders. The person behind the rumour was tracked down, interviewed (See Interview-XXXX-1) and then given Class-A amnesiacs, as well as anyone within the small community who heard of the rumour. MTF Beta-7 was then dispatched to investigate because of the possible biological hazard.

The rumour appeared to be half true. The group of miners were a group of hobby geologist looking for a interesting spot found SCP-XXXX with scanner equipment. One of them blew up a wall2
