Item #: SCP-5213

Object Class: Euclid Safe

Research Head: Dr W. Deck

Special Containment Procedures: The Foundation have bought the land the anomaly is sited on and placed it in private ownership before closing it off to the public. Security have set up a small living quarters nearby to intercept any civilians. 1 unit of MTF Theta-90 are to be stationed in the hut for retrieval of civilians/Foundation assets.

Description: SCP-5213-1 is a hedge maze in ████████, ██, USA. The maze contains major topographical and dimensional anomalies such as shifting walls, dimensional shifts, time dilation and [REDACTED]. SCP-5213's effects only manifest once nobody outside SCP-5213-1 is watching items/personnel inside SCP-5213-1 and nobody inside SCP-5213-1 is viewing the exit. Subjects are generally unrecoverable past this point.

SCP-5213-2 is a memetic field surrounding the primary object. This field activates on viewing SCP-5213-1 whether directly or remotely. The effects of SCP-5213-2 cause anyone affected to believe the maze contains SCP-5213-3. SCP-5213-3 is a key that is believed by subjects affected by SCP-5213-2 to be within SCP-5213-1. Effects are not strong and can be disobeyed with willpower, but non-briefed subjects who do not know of the anomalous effects are usually affected more. Subjects believe different things, but generally focusing around themes such as:
-The key grants infinite intelligence.
-The key grants eternal life.
-The key grants god-like status/powers.
It is currently unknown if the key exists.

Test Log:

Background Discovery Notes
1 Class-D entered SCP-5213-1 with radio. As soon as Class-D left the field of view of the personnel conducting the test, Class-D reported they couldn't find the exit. Class-D marked as presumed terminated. This confirmed the anomalous effects.
Class-D (D1) with rope to mark path entered the anomaly. Subject was instructed to look for Class-D from previous test (D2). D1 found D2's unconscious body and brought them back to the entrance point. "So recovery of objects isn't impossible, just hard." -Dr W. Deck
Class-D was shown a picture of SCP-5213-1 in a remote location. Said Class-D had no knowledge of the location of the anomaly. When questioned, Class-D said that it contained "The key to the universe" and that they knew the key was in the maze, but not where the maze was. "The memetic hazard seems to implant knowledge of the key, but not of the location. At least we don't have to worry about civilians siegeing the containment area." -Dr W. Deck "But it still means there is a risk of anomalous effects circulating in the form of pictures or videos." -Security Captain Greene
A leaf was removed from SCP-5213-1, and shown to a Class-D. When questioned, Class-D did not mention a key, or any other anomalous effects. "This shows there is a very low chance of any memetic contamination. I'll ask for it to be reclassified as Safe." - Dr W. Deck
