BushidoBanshee - Isle of Change draft

Item# : SCP - XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the danger posed to both personnel and civilian water traffic, a perimeter is to be established at least twenty-five miles away from the anomalous epicentre and constant vigilance is to be kept around the “Dead Zone.” Mobile containment forces Hydra-1, Hydra-2 and Hydra-3 are to patrol this perimeter under the guise of local government militia. In accordance with legitimizing the disguise, providing long term protection to the active teams and deterring potential threats/civilian interference, all forces are to be provided with a Rapid-Response Destroyer Warship with anti-aircraft modifications. On shore surveillance teams, along with aircraft for potential rescue are to be established in case of a potential dead zone perimeter breach. No civilians may pass through this perimeter and force is permitted if deemed necessary by the in-team commander. The local government has agreed to re-route all civilian and military air traffic away from the anomalous zone, any aircraft detected without Mobile Task Force authorization or researcher credentials are to be immediately terminated.

Echo Location equipment is to be provided to the field teams and updates to the on shore surveillance teams are to be given every minute via automated alarm system. Mobile task force “Scylla” are to be placed on standby should any potential breach be reported. Expeditions into the Dead Zone and onwards to the anomalous epicentre must have clearance from at least one Level 4 researcher and must be documented in the on shore surveillance team’s archives in case of potential failure. Catastrophic containment breach of the Dead Zone is possible albeit unlikely, all teams to switch ammunition to tracking bullets should this occur and previously mentioned steps should be followed.

Should a “surge” event occur all off shore staff are to evacuate to the nearest mainland access point via air rescue. Under no circumstances should off shore teams retreat to the mainland via sea. Any task force teams who do not respond to air rescue teams within five minutes are to be considered MIA. Once surge event has ended the new perimeter must be ascertained immediately and all previously stated protocols are to be put back in place ASAP with the “Dead Zone” distance amended accurately.

Description: SCP - XXXX is a large tropical island situated near * in the Pacific Ocean. The island itself is entirely detached from the earth’s crust and floats on the surface of the water. How SCP - XXXX is able to do this and stay in the same spot is unknown. Exploration into the underside of SCP - XXXX is extremely difficult due to its abundance of hostile and anomalous wildlife. Unmanned exploration via underwater drone has yielded few conclusive results into how the island stays afloat, the only images the drone was able to get of the island’s underside before it was destroyed showed a great many large cone like protrusions with hollow interiors, similar to miniature volcanoes in composition, shape and apparent extreme heat. Aside from the heat generated from the underside and the island’s secondary effect, the island itself is relatively harmless and contains a non anomalous ecosystem with few predators.

SCP - XXXX was previously home to a tribe of seafaring Polynesians who temporarily settled on the island in approximately . Currently there are no human inhabitants owing to the island’s secondary anomalous effect. A large square hole in the centre of the island acts as an immediate entrance to the underside, whether the hole is manmade or not is still up for debate as primitive tools leftover by the Polynesians appear to match strike marks around the hole, yet the hieroglyphs and design of the hole do not match any currently known culture. The hole measures 5 by 5 metres in size although little is known about the depth. Researchers first encountering the hole attempted to ascertain the depth of the waters under the island by attaching a tracking beacon to some nearby rocks and throwing them in. The tracking beacon’s signal cut off abruptly upon reaching 578 metres.

Any humans who stay on the island for anywhere between approximately 3-6 days will begin to feel an overwhelming urge to leap into the hole, consuming all the victim’s thoughts until they do so. Heavy dosage of class B amnesiacs help suppress the symptoms temporarily but fail after a short period. If a person enters the hole they will violently burst apart creating SCP - XXXX/1. SCP - XXXX/1 is a widely ranged collection of extremely aggressive underwater creatures that partially resemble that of the person they once where and a random form of aquatic life. The creatures possess little to no survival instincts and do not need to feed, instead sustaining themselves on *** found on the islands underside. Despite having no apparent need to feed, the creatures will automatically attack any other living creature on sight provided it is not another SCP - XXXX/1. Instances of SCP - 4605/1 are to be terminated on sight. See SCP - XXXX/1 Records for a list of encountered creatures.

It is entirely possible for the creatures to break through the Dead Zone’s boundary. This appears to accidental as surveillance reports show the creatures gingerly testing the limits of their sudden freedom. With this in mind, it can be ascertained that the boundary is not a physically generated wall as previously thought but rather a pre-set pheromone boundary dictated by the island or the creatures themselves. Breaches have only happened on three separate occasions, however once this occurs the creature will immediately begin to hunt down the closest form of sea life, including any and all seafaring vessels and humans in contact with the water. The details of these incidents require level 4 clearance due to agent identities becoming compromised and those with appropriate clearance wishing to view said documents must receive an approved clearance code from the 05 council.

SCP - XXXX/1 Current Sightings:

SCP - XXXX/1/A: A large, vaguely humanoid creature sighted at the Dead Zone boundary. This creature was described by personnel as being humanoid in shape but vastly larger, containing no head but instead a large face fused to its shoulders with the mouth in place of the neck. The skin was mottled green and the legs had been replaced by large tentacles similar to that of the Octopus Vulgaris (Common Octopus.) A secondary mouth was spotted in its abdomen and appeared to be comprised of large shark like teeth - Subject terminated.

SCP - XXXX/1/B: A crocodilian creature with large disfigured human arms in place of frontal limbs. The head of the subject appeared to be a bizarre mixture of human with the jaws of a saltwater crocodile. Frontal limbs appeared to have webbing on them yet did not appear to have the same skin composition as a crocodile, suggesting that aside from the heavy disfiguration the subject was a true genetic splice between human and crocodile. New theories on the nature of the square hole have been established.

SCP - XXXX/1/C: A very large serpentine creature similar to early descriptions of naga in Buddhist lore. The creature has two arms and two legs seemingly fused to the side of its enormous length, these appeared to be useless as they remained limp during the entire encounter. The head of the beast resembled that of a snake, yet the teeth of the subject were almost entirely human with perfectly formed molars and canines. The subject, disturbingly, grinned the entire time during its assault on Hydra – 2.

SCP – XXXX/1/D: Observed during surge event one, resembles an exuberantly bloated great white shark. Its head however appeared to be an odd combination of great white shark and a human female. Tissue samples taken from the specimen’s cadaver (Subject escaped but left large clumps of flesh behind as a result of the battle) confirmed to be partially fused at the molecular level between that of an adult male great white shark and a human female of undeterminable decent.

Addendum - #XXXX-1: “Dead Zone”

The distance from SCP - XXXX to the designated safe point (currently 25 miles) is known as the “Dead Zone”, aptly named for its complete lack of any marine life. As all instances of SCP - XXXX\1 are aggressive to the extreme, all creatures within an area around the island are considered viable prey no matter their current statues in the food chain. All creatures within this zone are hunted until either they are extinct in this area or they leave. Creatures have been observed avoiding entrance into the Dead Zone through unknown means, shoals of fish will seemingly break formation and scatter upon contact with the approximate location of the zones wall and larger creatures such as sharks and whales have been observed avoiding the zone even if it means changing migration paths. An incident recorded by MCF Hydra – 2 involving a large great white shark and a small sea lion native to the area, saw the sea lion physically slow itself to a stop and allow itself to be eaten by the shark rather than cross over into the zone despite the nearest instance of SCP XXXX/1 being over 14 miles away at the time.
Underwater plant life, previously lush and abundant before the “Surge” event that created the new “Dead Zone” withered and died after approx. 1 week of being in the current “Dead Zone”. The cause of this is unknown though it has been hypothesized that SCP – XXXX’s ability to keep itself afloat is in some way toxic to the surrounding plant life.

Addendum - #XXXX-2: “Surge”

Since SCP - XXXX came under foundation control there have been two surge events. One taking place on the //19** and the other taking place on the //20**. Detailed reports from the surveillance team’s main computer during the surge events have been included below. A surge event occurs seemingly at random with little warning. A minute or so before the event occurs a large ripple, similar in size and power from that of an underwater earthquake, will be produced from the island. Once this occurs the Dead Zone’s boundary will randomly increase in size (the average increase so far is around 1.4 miles with each surge) prompting the SCP - XXXX/1 creatures to immediately begin hunting any and all life found within the new boundary. All personal in the water are to immediately follow the containment procedure and under no circumstances must they retreat to the shore using aquatic transportation.

Surge report – 2

Due to a largescale update of computer systems worldwide at this time, all teams had their warships updated with an on-board computer that allowed two way communications in short pre-learned codes. Short messages and only short messages are allowed as personal updates and situation changes due to the nature of a surge event. Anything longer than three words per message will be considered dereliction of duty. Surveillance headquarters may disregard this word limit.

Only one member of Hydra – 3 was recovered. She was missing her left arm and in a catatonic state by the time the helicopter returned. She was given immediate emergency medical treatment on site and placed under surveillance in the nearest hospital. Once she had recovered enough to speak she was debriefed by Dr Ghurn at debrief location *. Below is a transcript of the conversations details.

Interviewer – Dr Ghurn Abhalad – site **

Interviewee – Hydra - 3/2 (Lucy Walsh)

[BEGIN LOG]

Dr Ghurn: Please, state for the record your team designation, authentication code and full name.

Lucy: (says nothing, instead seems transfixed on the wall behind Dr Ghurn)

Dr Ghurn: (Dr Ghurn waves a hand in Lucy’s face) Ms Walsh? Are you with us? We can do this later if nee—

Lucy: MCF Hydra dash three forward slash two, Alpha Alpha Echo Delta, Lucy Walsh; can you please fuck off?

Dr Ghurn: Thank you, once I have finished this debrief I’ll leave you alone, I promise. You’ll get as much time off as you need and certainly no oblig—

Lucy: Have you ever had an arm torn from your body by some fishy hell-beast doctor?

Dr Ghurn: Ah, no, Ms Walsh I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure.

Lucy: I wouldn’t recommend it. If you can promise me Class A amnesiacs after this interview I’ll tell you whatever you want.

Dr Ghurn: That won’t be an issue to arrange, thank you for your cooperation Ms Walsh. Firstly, may I remind you that you are to be cautioned on your misuse of the Hydra three computer. Requesting beverages with the supply runs is allowed but childish behaviour between colleagues whilst on a critical patrol is strictly prohibited. We won’t warn you again.

Lucy: (sighs and looks off into the distance again)

Dr Ghurn: Now that we have that done let’s get the rest out of the way quickly. Please give me your full account of the events as the “surge” began.

Lucy: (Unfocused, still staring at the wall) It was sudden. I suppose that’s the best way to put it really. Sudden. I was at the computer as you know, that was the best bit of outside world interaction I’d had in months. We didn’t get much aside from monthly shore leave but that doesn’t really compare, you know? That’s just drinking and fucking and being a debased fucker in general until we get back on that bloody ship.

Dr Ghurn: (taps his recorder with his pen)

Lucy: Sorry, went off on one. So I was sat there typing my next response and suddenly the boat gets rocked to the side. Nothing major mind you, just a push, like a rogue wave hit us and the ship’s just shrugging it off. Then the red lights start flashing and suddenly Johan is yelling from the bridge, Max is leaping around all frantic like and the boat’s rocking like hell, like absolute hell, like a storm came out of nowhere and just smacked into us. Next thing I know, I’m bundling myself outside just trying desperately to hold on while I get to the gun mounts on the side of the ship. So I’m port-side, grabbing onto this giant ass gun we normally just use to scare the locals away or shoot up some random sea weed for target practice, and I’m staring down into the water and I…I…

Dr Ghurn: Yes?

Lucy: It’s Max. He’s fallen overboard and…those fucking things… those things are just tearing into him like he’s nothing, like he’s just a bloody toy for them to play rough with. He tried climbing back on board, nearly made it too, but it’s a little hard to do that when you’ve got one limb left and only half your entrails right doctor?

Dr Ghurn: Yes… I’m sorry. Please, continue.

Lucy: (Now looking directly at Dr Ghurna) He screamed for me, you know? He screamed my fucking name as that monster ripped him from the side of the boat. Me. L U C Y. So of course, I shot the bastard up for that, he knows to use my nickname. Only people itching for a fight call me Lucy and I know that’s what he wanted right there, wanted me to fight him with my dual shots right there and then. If it helps, I took down the fucker that was eating him too, shot it right through whatever the hell passed for a skull on that thing. After that it was just chaos, pure and simple. I heard Cass scream on the other side of the ship, Johan went silent… What happened to him?

Dr Ghurn: MIA unfortunately, it seems the beasts managed to tear a hole into the ship from the bottom, and if he was on the bridge as you last saw him then I don’t doubt his fate was sealed.

Lucy: Charming. Well then I saw the helicopter. I’m not religious but that thing was a god damn angel. A straight up miracle. I kept shooting at those things until the ladder fell and that was that, a straight jump up. Fucking beasty, if I see it again I’ll repay the favour. I jumped onto the ladder and one of those things latched its… I suppose they were tentacles? Tendrils? Whatever they were, onto my arm. Well that was me fucked wasn’t it? Issue is, those beauties are way too good at killing. Way too good. Everything on them is geared towards making some serious damage and those tentacles were no exception. Tore right through my arm like butter, saved my life ironically. After that I think you pretty much know it all, Doctor, got home in bad shape, got patched up and now I’m a loony waiting for my big dose of mind melting miracles. That all?

Dr Ghurna: Ok, I think we’re done here. Thank you Ms Walsh, I’ll get the paperwork for your amnesiacs sorted ASAP.
