Item #: SCP-5312

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5312 is to be kept in a small 10 m by 10 m room with lighting similar to that of an arcade, surrounded by other arcade cabinets that have either been decommissioned or do not function properly, as requested by the anomaly itself. D-Class personnel are sent into SCP-5312's chamber to do maintenance, and are asked to drop a quarter into SCP-5312 every 2 hours or so. D-Class personnel who do not get eaten by SCP-5312 while doing maintenance are given a quarter to play the game provided by SCP-5312 as a form of reward, also helping the Foundation record more data about the hypnotic effects of the game.

Description: SCP-5312 is an arcade cabinet, measuring 1.98 m tall and 75 cm wide, with a cracked screen and slight spray paint strokes on the bottom and top, along with a small blood stain near the coin deposit. Turning on the arcade machine will reveal a game called "Polybius" and request twenty-five cents to start. Said game was published by a company called Sinneslöschen. Research concluded that “sinneslöschen” is a not-quite-idiomatic German word directly translating to “sense delete”. Further investigation shows that Polybius was allegedly released in 1981, but became obsolete one month later.

Upon inserting twenty-five cents in US currency into the coin slot, the game begins. The game only seems to begin when quarters are inserted, and other types of US currency are not accepted. Various personnel have been tasked with playing the game and then describing it, but none have been able to do so, in a similar way as SCP-055. Foundation employees believe that the game is addictive and psychoactive. Personnel who have played the game have been shown to suffer from a series of unpleasant side effects, which include amnesia, insomnia, night terrors and hallucinations.

SCP-5312 has also been shown to try to communicate with D-Class personnel doing maintenance by turning itself on and displaying text messages on its screen. We decided to set up an interview with SCP-5312 and a D-Class. To see this conversation, see Addendum: Report 1-900-909-4300.

SCP-5312's interviews have led us to an old workshop behind the arcade where the anomaly was found. According to SCP-5312, his "electric desires unraveled all of his wires", putting him inside of the box where he is, allegedly for safekeeping. Traces of blood and various tools have led us to conclude that SCP-5312 was once human, but somehow managed to turn himself into an arcade machine. This inference is backed up by SCP-5312 claiming to be named Nial Cincirino, and saying that he has human organs inside of him.

Document #5312-1: Interview 1-900-909-4300
Recorded log of dialogue between SCP-5312 and D-XXXX, dated February 29, 2016.
(D-XXXX was given a script with questions to ask the anomaly and tasked to record the answers.)

[BEGIN LOG]

D-XXXX: Hello? Can you hear me?

SCP-5312: Yes

D-XXXX: Good…

D-XXXX proceeded to read the list of questions she was given.

D-XXXX: Do you have a name?

SCP-5312: Nial Cincirino

D-XXXX: Okay, do you have feelings?

SCP-5312: Yes

D-XXXX: What feelings do you have?

SCP-5312: I feel safe inside of here

D-XXXX: Inside of where, exactly?

SCP-5312: The box for safekeeping

D-XXXX started to take notes.

D-XXXX: Okay… for how long have you been alive?

SCP-5312: 32 years (line break) Tomorrow is my birthday

D-XXXX: Did you know that your game is very psychoactive?

SCP-5312: Yes I am aware of that

D-XXXX: What's your gender?

SCP-5312: I do not like to think of that now (line break) Originally I was male

D-XXXX: Alright, personnel have noticed a blood stain in your lower half near the coin slot. What's that?

SCP-5312: A burglar broke into the arcade and tried to take my quarters

D-XXXX: Did you kill the burglar?

SCP-XXXX: No

D-XXXX: Then why is there blood there?

SCP-5312: I am not fully mechanical (line break) Circuit board to brain (line break) Two lungs collecting change (line break) One big human heart gently beeps

D-XXXX: Weird.

D-XXXX started to take more notes.

SCP-5312: Do you have any more questions you want to ask

D-XXXX: Yes, I do. How exactly did you find this arcade cabinet?

SCP-5312: I found it behind the arcade

D-XXXX: I'm assuming that it's the arcade where you were found, right?

SCP-5312: Yes

D-XXXX: Okay. Out of curiosity, how do you breathe?

SCP-5312: I need coins to press down my diaphragm so my lungs maintain oxygen to the
organs that require it

D-XXXX: Cool. Did you have lots of planning before you designed this new body?

SCP-5312: Yes (line break) There was lots of planning (line break) I needed to think about how I would get oxygen to my brain

D-XXXX took the last of her notes.

D-XXXX: Alright, that's it.

SCP-5312: I'm hungry

D-XXXX: Do you want some food from the cafeteria?

SCP-5312: My food is in front of me

[END LOG]

Closing Statement: After the interview, D-XXXX was presumably eaten by SCP-5312.
