Item #: SCP-4001
Object Class: Thaumiel
Special Containment Procedures:
A person/persons who are adept at conversing with the elderly
Description:
SCP-4001 or preferably referred to by staff as "Visquarren" or "The Aged One" is a large aquatic reptile capable of conversing in humanoid dialects. The creature in question consists of a reptilian torso, four legs with accompanying claws and talons, a barbed tail measuring 4.5 meters in length, a reptilian head resembling that of a serpent with 30 retractable fangs protruding from his gums that excrete a highly hallucinogenic venom.
SCP-4001 was discovered in 1978 by Icelandic fisherman in a naturally formed cave off the north coast of "Austurfjorur". Having discovered the bobbers of their crab pots wrecked on a pile of jagged rocks outside the cave they ventured inside in hopes of retrieving their product. Upon entry they had found their pots ripped and ruined with a large "sea monster" consuming their crabs. Upon interview with the fishermen they described the creature as a "dragon". Upon educated guess that the creature was dangerous a task force was dispatched to capture the animal and move it the secure containment facility █████ for further study. Operatives working on the case at the time didn't deem the creature as a threat, for the creature said so itself. The operatives with the new found knowledge that they could converse with the creature reasoned with the beast. Task force leader "Stanley Monk" remarkably exchanged a formal greeting with the beast learning the creature went by the alias "Visquarren, The Aged One". Stanley Monk taking a liking to Visquarren's well manured disposition personally escorted and interviewed SCP-4001.
The use of Visquarren, The Aged One to warrants him the classification of "Thaumiel" lies within his unique intelligence and knowledge of otherworldly anomalies and happenings. Such skills are as follows:
- Accurate predictions of feral alien creatures' behaviors.
- Advanced understanding of human history, mythology and religion
- Is able to heed intstructions
- Can provide practical advice to staff members of all roles
- Is a moral booster for staff
Addendum: Stanley Monk described Visquarren as a "budding conversationalist".

Foreword: Stanley Monk inquiring into the origins, intentions and exploits of Visquarren, The Aged One
<Begin Log, [5th November, 1978, Sunday 12:55]>
Stanley Monk: "So, Visquarren. Am I pronouncing that right?"
SCP-4001: "For a human who has just met but two moons ago I would say splendidly."
Stanley Monk: "Thank you. Visquarren may I enquirer into the specific nature of your origins?"
SCP-4001: "Absolutely! Where should I start?"Stanley Monk: "From the very beginning. Where were you born?"
SCP-4001: "Oh, well that is an interesting one. I was roaming these lands eons before humans evolved from monkeys. I popped out of my egg in what is now modern day Turky. But back then everything had a different name. For instance the whole world as we know it. I believe you humans call it "Pangaea"?"
Stanley Monk: "Pangaea!? You mean you're a prehistoric creature?"
SCP-4001: "I suppose so yes,"
Stanley Monk: "Well then, how did you survive the extinction of the dinosaurs?"
SCP-4001: "The same way the crocodiles did. We took shelter in the ocean for many years as hell fire rained down upon our glorious land. And when we emerged. Nothing but ashes…but from those ashes life sprouted anew and my kind endured."
Stanley Monk: "Your kind? Are there more of you?"
SCP-4001: "Oh god no. Or at least I don't think so…they were culled by Norsemen when Humans settled in our land."
Stanley Monk: "Norsemen…then perhaps are the historical presence of your people cause for stories of the mythological creatures "Dragons?"
SCP-4001: "Oh most definitely! After my kind was hunted close to extinction, tales of our "immorality granting blood" and "hoards of gold" quickly became stuff of legend."
Stanley Monk: "Is there any truth to the stories?"
SCP-4001: "Mmhhmm…no not really as you put us "dragons" are rather minimalist creatures really. Sure you got the one or two bad eggs but over all we were a peaceful race. But the humans didn't understand us. And what they didn't understand they feared, and what they feared they killed."
Stanley Monk: "What are your current intentions towards the human race?"
SCP-4001: "Peaceful"
Stanley Monk: "Have you had any previous interactions with humans social or otherwise. If so in what context?"
SCP-4001: "Well considering the first I saw of the human race was them slaughtering my kin I mostly kept to myself for a while. There was a girl who lived in a lighthouse that I grew fond of we would talk but then she moved to America and I was left alone. Then those fishermen chaps discovered me and the rest of the story I'm sure you know."
Stanley Monk: "Are you capable of winged transportation?"
SCP-4001: "There's a reason my head was carved onto the from of the Vikings' boats. These wings weren't made for flying."
Stanley Monk: "So your wings are used to travel through water?"
SCP-4001: "Yes sir,"
Stanley Monk: "Thank you, that'll be all Visquarren"
SCP-4001: "It's been a pleasure Mr.Monk I do hope we can converse more often."
<End Log, [5th November, 1978, Sunday 13:20]>Closing Statement: Visquarren became a popular test subject later in the research of his kind. His polite well mannered nature was a pleasant change from the horrors that most staff members would have to study. He was very forthcoming with information and was found to be a valuable asset within the SCP Foundation due to his moral boosting personality and unique knowledge of otherworldly, prehistoric and bestial insights that helped capture and contain other alien creatures.
