Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object class: safe
Special containment procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained in anomalous armaments locker 4 on site 7 behind several electrical locks. One armed guard is to be stationed at this locker at all times. This guard is to be rotated out every six hours. Tests may only be initiated with the approval of the site director. Under no circumstances is SCP-XXXX to be used outside of testing purposes.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a M14 Springfield rifle with minimal damage to its exterior. It is identical to a standard issue rifle, with an engraving present on the side of the rifle. The engraving is of twenty seven tally marks and is embedded in the wood stock of the weapon. When loaded with any material, SCP-XXXX will convert that raw material into a viable form of ammunition. Different types of ammunition causes SCP-XXXX to produce different types of firing methods that should not be possible given its design.
In order for its anomalous properties to manifest both the gun of SCP-XXXX and the magazine of SCP-XXXX must be present. If a normal magazine is placed into SCP-XXXX or the magazine of SCP-XXXX is placed into a standard M14 rifle, no anomalous affects will occur. The object is extremely durable, with extreme heat needed to even mark the wooden section of the rifle. This property makes the presence of the engravings on the weapon even more curious. All attempts to alter the barrel of the weapon have been met with failure.
SCP-XXXX was discovered in 1984 at the Smiths residence Illinois. The David Smith who was present at the house at the time received a strange package he did not recall ordering and contacted the authorities thinking it was an IED. Local agents were dispatched onto the site to discover the object was a metal box with several advanced locks outside the vessel. The Box was recovered and David Smith was given class A amnestics and released. The Box was taken to site 7 for excavation and after several hours drilling into the box, SCP-XXXX was found inside. Other objects were found insides as well, including a 60ml vial of de-ionized water, several cigarette sticks with an unknown language on the side, and a note referring to the individual who purchased the product. The note reads as follows:
"Dear [REDACTED],
Thank you for purchasing our latest model IRA-87 rifle. Our gunsmiths are glad you received your package. Testing ammunition is provided in the package upon your request. If you have any questions about the operation of the weapon or wish to purchase another from our fine line of self defense items, please contact your local Inter-dimensional information hub or your local equivalent.
Best regards, Inter-dimensional Self Defense Association."
The box and note were apprehended and contained for analysis. Given that the note did not mention Mr. Smith in any way and that he had no knowledge of the object, the package may have ended up there by mistake. Attempts to contact the ISDA are still ongoing.
Addendum XXXX-1 Test Log foreword: The following are video transcripts testing with SCP-XXXX. All tests were conducted within a contained concrete bunker with standard issue targets used. A mechanism was installed on SCP-XXXX to keep the gun in place and pull the trigger to begin testing. D class personnel were sent to load the rifle with various types of ammunition. All researchers were behind reinforced bullet proof glass for observation and protection.
Test: #001
Magazine: 60ml of water poured into the magazine of SCP-XXXX.
Results: Steam began to pour out of the barrel. After 2 seconds water shot out of the riffle at 100,000 pounds per square inch, destroying the target and cutting a hole deep within the wall, as well as shorting out electrical equipment within it. Gun continued to fire for 14 seconds until pressure dropped and became inert. Severe damage sustained within the testing chamber.
Test: #007
Magazine: Four Double A batteries placed horizontally within SCP-XXXX’s Magazine.
Results: Barrel of the rifle began to glow, releasing 10,000 volts of electricity towards the target. The resulting bolts ignited the target and scorched the surrounding concrete. The weapon continued to fire for another forty minutes until discharge ceased. Moderate damage sustained within the testing chamber.
Test: #012
Magazine: 20 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Results: Gun refused to fire due to mechanical malfunctions within the weapon. SCP-XXXX was inoperable for several hours until maintenance was able to repair the faulty mechanism. No damage sustained within the testing chamber.
Test: #018
Magazine: 1 pound of snow packed into SCP-XXXX’s Magazine.
Results: Temperature in the room dropped 15 degrees Celsius. Barrel of the rifle vibrated violently before spewing a liquid substance at the target. The target instantly froze as well as all surrounding concrete around it. SCP-XXXX continued firing for seven minutes before ceasing. Severe damage sustained within the testing chamber.
Test: #026
Magazine: 25 Quercus (Oak tree) seeds placed horizontally into SCP-XXXX’s magazine.
Results: The barrel of the riffle began to vibrate rapidly ejecting several seeds into the testing chamber. The seeds were observed to have severe discoloration. After approximately 5 seconds of inactivity the seeds began to shake violently releasing 12 instances of plant-like quadrupedal creatures into the testing chamber. The instances became very violent and began attacking each other as well as the target. After a minute of this behavior the remaining instances began to grow massively is size attacking the researches behind the glass. [REDACTED] Casualties were sustained with [REDACTED] injured. Remaining instances began to grow even faster resulting in a containment breach of the chamber. After two hours the remaining 3 were contained and moved off site for analysis. Severe damage sustained within the testing chamber and several other areas of the site.
Note: All further usage of living ammunition is to be denied until further notice. Continued testing of SCP-XXXX is to be held in test chamber D while test chamber A is decontaminated and tested for anomalous effects.
Test: #31
Magazine: 7 cigarette sticks placed horizontally into SCP-XXXX’s magazine.
Results: Barrel of the rifle proceeded to vibrate violently and release a thick cloud of gas. The room filled with the gas within two minutes and twelve seconds. As observation continued the glass in the observation room began to melt from the exposure. All personnel were evacuated. When the gas was cleared and contained it was revealed that only the glass reacted adversely to the gas, leaving the concrete unscathed. Moderate damage sustained within the testing chamber. Request for installment of further reinforced glass: Granted.
Test: #039
Magazine: Empty clip of SCP-XXXX.
Results: Barrel vibrated violently releasing a shock wave shattering the target and glass from the observatory holding researchers. Minimal damage was sustained within the testing chamber, however the target itself was completed obliterated. After the initial blast the magazine refused to separate from SCP-XXXX for Six minutes. Zero casualties were sustained, however several researchers suffered moderate hearing damage form the blast. Request for replacement of glass and hearing aids before further testing: Granted.
