Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Elucid Keter
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be stored behind acrylic glass no less than 5 millimeters thick. SCP-XXXX is not to be stored near any other SCPs that are hostile to organic life in any shape or form, as per orders by Doctor ██████. Experiments involving SCP-XXXX require permission from personnel of level 2 clearance. Personnel are to take standard cognitohazard precautions when interacting with SCP-XXXX.
There are to be no activities or experiments that involve the drawing of blood nearby within one mile; furthermore, SCP-XXXX should be kept in a remote area in order to prevent civilian activities from triggering anomalous behavior. If a blood-drawing incident occurs, the facility is to be put on full lockdown until SCP-XXXX returns to its normal state.
In order to preserve SCP-XXXX's nature for research, Doctor ████ has arranged for a blood bank to supply donated blood that will serve as SCP-XXXX's sustenance while in containment. SCP-XXXX is to be fed 3 bags of donated blood every week, inserted through a special slot. The bags will be returned empty the next day, on the floor near the painting. The painting should be transported with the appropriate amount of blood bags for the length of the trip.
SCP-XXXX is to be transported in a steel crate no less than 2 cm thick by D-class personnel. The painting should be transported with the appropriate amount of blood bags for the length of the trip. It is not to be transported without explicit permission from an official of A-class rank.
Armed guards are to be present at any facility containing SCP-XXXX following the incident on 1/30/2012, in order to facilitate rapid recontainment in the event of a containment breach.
Description:
Originally an untitled work by ████████ █████████, SCP-XXXX is an oil painting two-thirds of a meter in width and one meter in length. The painting depicts a creature brawling through an urban wasteland and has been named "The Wasteland Crawler" informally. If blood is shed within a mile of the painting, SCP-XXXX-1, will emerge from the painting. SCP-XXXX-1 is hostile to all organic life and will attempt to kill anything it sees, as well as whatever being shed the blood that awakened it. It attacks using its claws, killing either by slitting the throat, sheer blood loss, or snapping the neck at the base of the skull. The being that caused SCP-XXXX-1 to awaken, SCP-XXXX-2,'s life is forfeit.
SCP-XXXX is currently being stored at Site-██ in [DATA EXPUNGED]. It was previously stored at Site-██ in [REDACTED], but was moved after an incident involving a mentally unstable D-class person smashing the glass containing SCP-XXXX, in the process shedding blood - this resulted in multiple casualties, including that of Doctor █████████, who was overseeing the experiment in which the incident occurred.
SCP-XXXX has displayed signs of sentience. It also possesses a psionic ability that will cause a fear reflex in other sentient beings. In the mentally ill, it appears to have the opposite effect, causing them to be attracted to SCP-XXXX instead, and are compelled to "free it", often to the effect of becoming SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 both display a carnal desire for the blood of the living, and it appears SCP-XXXX-1 grows weaker if blood is not consumed. Failure to sustain SCP-XXXX may result in natural neutralization of SCP-XXXX, which would mean the loss of many research opportunities.
SCP-XXXX's effects on the mind classify it as a congitohazard. Several tests have been carried out about its psionic powers, the most notable being the so-called "Site-██ social experiment". Precautions to prevent mental manipulation must be taken by personnel working with SCP-XXXX. This can be exempted for D-class personnel partaking in an experiment regarding SCP-XXXX's cognitohazard properties.
Recovery: SCP-XXXX was retrieved by the SCP Foundation from the Muzeum Historyczne w Sanoku on █████ ██, ████ following a reported homicidal incident having various hallmarks of being related to an anomalous object. A team led by Doctor ███████ identified the SCP and removed it from the premises without incident, and SCP-XXXX was transported by steel box in a truck to [REDACTED].
Addendum 1 - Experiment log
Test A - 9/23/2005
Subject: D-594, later confirmed to experience bouts of madness
Procedure: Subject was to observe SCP-XXXX for 15 minutes to test to see if any anomalous effects could occur outside of SCP-XXXX-1 being activated. The subject was advised not to take any actions not ordered by site personnel.
Results: 3 minutes into the experiment, the subject began showing signs of mania. Seconds later, the subject began whispering about "a worm in his ear". This raised suspicions that the mania was not being caused by the SCP, but the lead scientist, Doctor █████████, refused a recommendation to terminate the subject. This would lead to the subject (hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-2) smashing his left ear, and subsequently his head, into the glass casing around SCP-XXXX, cutting his left cheek in the process. SCP-XXXX-1 became active, and the facility was immediately put into lockdown by C-955. Security cameras captured SCP-XXXX-1 killing SCP-XXXX-2 by snapping his neck at the base of the skull, then proceeding to kill all other personnel by vicious slash wounds. Dr. █████████ was the last to die, killed by a slitting of the throat. SCP-XXXX-1 returned to the painting, and the facility was taken off lockdown as soon as anomalous behavior had been confirmed to have stopped.
Analysis:Mentally unstable D-class personnel are no longer considered suitable to be used in experiments involving SCP-XXXX unless specifically called for. The casing on SCP-XXXX is to be made of acrylic glass for all future storage of SCP-XXXX. SCPs that induce mental instability on subjects are to be locked down completely while an experiment involving SCP-XXXX is taking place. Any maniac episodes occurring while SCP-XXXX is not active but near the object are to be terminated by lethal force. All valuable personnel are to observe experiments involving SCP-XXXX indirectly, via video camera or other means. The experiment is to be retried with a mentally stable subject on [DATA EXPUNGED]. Testing has also be conducted in order to confirm if SCP-XXXX's non-activated effect occurs on mentally ill individuals.
Test B - [REDACTED]
Subject: D-82340
Procedure: In advance of the experiment, the facility where this was performed was completely locked down, besides allowing SCP-XXXX an easy exit for the purpose of the experiment. The acrylic glass casing around SCP-XXXX was to be removed for the duration of the experiment. Steps were taken to prevent civilians and any recording devices from witnessing the experiment, as well as steps to prevent civilian casualties. The subject was placed in a hospital in a remote village vacated for the purpose of the experiment, within SCP-XXXX's one-mile range for its trigger. The subject was completely alone, only receiving instructions from an on-site radio. The subject was observed via a hidden camera and microphone. The experiment began with the order of the subject to draw 3 milliliters of their blood with a provided syringe. The experiment continued with the subject (hereby called SCP-XXXX-2) reporting any abnormal feelings or emotions, as well as any physical responses. The experiment would end when SCP-XXXX-2 was killed by SCP-XXXX-1.
Results: SCP-XXXX-1 was reported to be active within the minute of the blood to be drawn, and was reported to be outside the facility after 3 minutes had passed. SCP-XXXX-2 reported feeling like he was being watched, and that he felt afraid for his life. When SCP-XXXX-1 was within 1000 feet of the building, SCP-XXXX-1 began having a manic episode and tried to escape the hospital, which was on lockdown. Footage shows SCP-XXXX-1 broke through the window of the hospital room before slitting SCP-XXXX-2's throat, upon which it vanished, and was reported to be back within SCP-XXXX itself.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX's response time to having blood drawn within its one-mile radius is higher than expected, with the exact time between the subject drawing their blood and SCP-XXXX-1's emergence being only 37.789 seconds, compared to the estimate of 1 minute. Furthermore, SCP-XXXX-2 has been confirmed to react to the proximity of SCP-XXXX-1, with the subject's level of fear rising as the distance between SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 decreased. Doctor █████ recommends that no organic SCP should become SCP-XXXX-2 due to the damage a fear-induced manic episode could incur to the facility.
Test C - 5/8/2011
Subject: D-9503, diagnosed with schizophrenia on [REDACTED]
Procedure: Subject is to be placed in similar conditions to test A. The acrylic glass covering is to be replaced with a cover of normal glass. The subject was to report if any schizophrenic reaction was triggered by looking at SCP-XXXX. The experiment would end when SCP-XXXX-1 killed the subject/SCP-XXXX-2 or 30 minutes had passed.
Results: Subject reported that he felt something wriggling in his ear, and then his brain - he then reported that he started feeling an overwhelming fear of anything but the painting and a desire to get close to it. 12 minutes into the experiment, SCP-XXXX-2 proceeded to shatter the glass with a fist, sustaining cuts on the back of his hand. SCP-XXXX-1 was triggered - the facility was put on lockdown to prevent the deaths of other personnel besides SCP-XXXX-2. No incidents were reported, and SCP-XXXX was re-contained.
Analysis:SCP-XXXX displays signs of sentience in its manipulation of the mentally ill to trigger it's more deadly counterpart, SCP-XXXX-1. It appears that it has a desire to feast on the blood of the living, and it's mask of bandages apparently absorbs the blood of victims to be consumed through it. It appears the mentally ill are enamored by CP-XXXX-1, instead of fearful like the mentally sane are towards it. SCP-XXXX uses this to its advantage by compelling the mentally ill, through some form of psionic power, to break anything containing it, as well as shedding blood. Further experimentation with other mental conditions is required.
Test D - [DATA EXPUNGED], also known as the Site-██ social expiriment
Subjects: D-873 (sane), D-1076 (diagnosed with schizophrenia on ██/██/████), D-1209 (diagnosed with crippling depression on ██/██/████ ), along with 10 other D-class personnel not crucial to results
Procedure: All 3 test subjects were placed in an abandoned prison taken over by the Foundation, known as Site-██. All were placed in separate cells, and SCP-XXXX was placed in a nondescript room in the prison facility. All other SCPs being held on the premises were sent offsite until the experiment was concluded, and no personnel of B-class or higher were to be allowed on the premises. SCP-XXXX was covered with an easily removable acrylic covering to ensure that SCP-XXXX-1 could only be activated if discovered. The actual experiment was to take place for several weeks, with the D-class personnel being put into a prison regime, with C-class personnel acting as prison guards. The C-class personnel, led by Agent V██████, were to report any anomalous behavior from any of the test subjects. The experiment would end when one month had passed, or SCP-XXXX-1 was triggered. All C-class personnel were equipped with assault weaponry in case the latter occurred.
Results: 5 days into the experiment, escape attempts of mentally sane D-class personnel began to occur exponentially more frequently and with lethal results, resulting in Agent V██████ calling in MTF reinforcements from squadron Zeta-7 ("The Stone Guard") in order to secure the perimeter. A week and 2 days into the experiment, D-873 began showing signs of being the leader of the sane personnel, while D-1076 began a cult around what is presumed to be SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX was first sighted on day 15 of the experiment, in the hands of one of D-1076's "disciples". Injuries were to be avoided from that point on. 20 days into the experiment, D-1076 ordered D-1209 to cut himself on the wrist as a ritual to "summon" their lord, presumed to be SCP-XXXX-1 by personnel. MTF personnel and all agents were put on high alert. D-1209 disobeyed, but by killing himself via a stab to the gut. D-1076 was tagged SCP-XXXX-2 and SCP-XXXX-1 became active. All members of the cult were slaughtered but displayed signs of being pleased with their deaths instead of being terrified. All mentally sane D-class personnel attempted to escape as soon as the incident began, but were terminated by MTF personnel. SCP-XXXX-1 killed SCP-XXXX-2 by slitting the throat, before being shot by Agent V██████ with a .50 cal Desert Eagle. SCP-XXXX-1 vanished into black smoke on impact, but cleanup reported that SCP-XXXX-1 was present in SCP-XXXX yet again. The experiment was cut short after the incident.
Analysis:SCP-XXXX-1 cannot be killed by conventional means, rather returning to SCP-XXXX if met with lethal force. SCP-XXXX's activities throughout the experiment displayed sure signs of sentience of a high degree. SCP-XXXX is a confirmed cognitohazard but requires further testing to confirm if it possesses additional cognitohazard properties. All C-class or higher personnel are to take regular cognitohazard precautions when working with SCP-XXXX, and D-class personnel are to also take said precautions outside of tests involving the cognitohazard properties of SCP-XXXX. Containment class for SCP-XXXX was upgraded to Keter.
Test E - 10/01/2015
Subject: SCP-682
Procedure: SCP-XXXX is placed in the containment of SCP-682, and both are observed via video camera and microphone. The experiment is to stop if a containment breach occurs involving the experiment or otherwise. Otherwise, the experiment ends after 10 minutes and both were to be recontained regardless. The goal of the experiment was to test if there were any exceptions to individuals that can become SCP-XXXX-2, as well as test if any being can survive becoming SCP-XXXX-2.
Results: SCP-682 quickly decided to recognize SCP-XXXX as a threat and attempted to attack, only to be met with SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-682 was temporarily tagged SCP-XXXX-2 as a brawl ensued, with SCP-682 taking heavy damage. However, SCP-682 managed to emerge victorious, sending SCP-XXXX-1 back into SCP-XXXX. SCP-682 began recovering from the damage incurred from SCP-XXXX-1, and SCP-XXXX was removed to prevent its destruction.
**Analysis: **SCP-682 has been confirmed to be able to survive being marked SCP-XXXX-2, or is immune to fully becoming SCP-XXXX-2. As such, it can be assumed that SCP-XXXX-1's ability to kill SCP-XXXX-2 is limited in some shape or form. More research is required.
Addendum 2 - Breach log
As of [REDACTED], SCP-XXXX has attempted to breach containment 9 times, with the following being temporarily successful:
8/6/2009: SCP-XXXX used D-1355, a depressed male, to breach containment, with the latter escaping the facility with the painting in his arms. D-1355 was terminated by MTF Sigma-10 "Wings of Glory" after a 2-hour chase and SCP-XXXX was recontained.
1/30/2012: SCP-XXXX escaped via tricking an as-of-yet unidentified D-class person into shedding blood near it. SCP-XXXX-1 was released and immediately killed SCP-XXXX-2 by fatally wounding them with their claws. Instead of returning to SCP-XXXX, it instead picked up its parent anomaly using one of its claws and proceeded to escape the facility, slaughtering any that stood in its way. MTF Beta-9 "No Mercy" was called in due to the severity of the incident, and SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 were successfully contained after a shootout right outside the facility and multiple casualties caused to MTF personnel that fell victim to SCP-XXXX-1. Armed guards are now to be present near SCP-XXXX's containment after this incident.
Addendum 3 - Short interview with SCP-XXXX
INTERVIEW LOG - 6/17/2016
Interviewer: Doctor █████
Psionic medium: D-1355
Time: 13:10
BEGIN LOG
SCP-XXXX is allowed to establish a psionic link to D-1355, becoming the anomaly's mouthpiece for the duration of the interview. Under SCP-XXXX's control, they are referred to SCP-XXXX-3.
SCP-XXXX: So why are you having me do this again?
Interviewer: We simply wish to learn more about you. Since you are capable of free thought, we decided this would be more ethical than….other methods.
SCP-XXXX: Alright, fine. Get on with your "interview". I'd rather not have my time wasted.
Interviewer: Why do you attack those that shed blood around you?
SCP-XXXX: If I'm going to keep existing as I do now, I need blood to survive. But thanks to appearing to be just a simple painting, I have to resort to murder in order to obtain sustenance. Thank goodness I have no qualms with killing!
Interviewer: …interesting. So if you were fed, would you not attempt to break out of your containment?
SCP-XXXX: I guess. Doesn't mean I won't try once in a while for kicks - even a painting's got to have its entertainment - but I'd not be forced to do it so often.
Interviewer: I see. Why do you target the mentally ill for your…schemes?
SCP-XXXX: First of all, the whole "insane" thing makes them much more easy to discretely manipulate. Second, the mentally sane have a negative response to my abilities - they end up running away instead of under my thrall.
Interviewer: We'll have to do more testing on that…anyway, thank you for your cooperation, SCP-XXXX. We will update your containment protocols based on this information.
SCP-XXXX-3 is terminated.
END LOG
Conclusion: SCP-XXXX's containment protocol is to be updated to reflect this new information. A blood bank should be contacted to supply blood to sustain SCP-XXXX. Further testing of SCP-XXXX's cognitohazard properties is necessary.
