Item #: SCP- xxxx
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP- xxxx is to be kept in a sealed container in Site-64’s Object Storage. Experimentation with SCP- xxxx may only be performed with prior permission from level 3 personnel. As of 04/20/69 all testing with SCP- xxxx has been suspended.
Description: SCP- xxxx is an aluminum sign reading “PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE FEARS THANK YOU!” The sign’s composition is entirely nonanomalous sheet aluminum coated with plastic. When a person comes into physical contact with SCP- xxxx, they will lose the capacity to feel fear. Any existing phobias will be cured, and situations which would cause fear in a normal human will elicit no response. After touching SCP- xxxx, subject will also be unable to develop new phobias, even when exposed to severely traumatic stimuli. The sign was first discovered in Yosemite national park, and brought to the Foundation’s attention by reports of acrophobic hikers suddenly deciding to take mountain trails after touching a sign.
Addendum xxxx-A: Testing Log
Test A - Date ██/████
Subject: D-4278 (Suffers from trypanophobia and hemophobia )
Procedure: D-4278 is instructed to touch SCP-xxxx with the palm of their hand.
Results: D-4278 reports feeling ‘calm’ immediately after touching the object. When subsequently instructed to comply with a blood test, D-4278 showed no signs of fear.
Analysis: Touching the object with bare skin 'activates' it, which makes sense. This test was mostly to establish a baseline. -Dr Nkosi
Test B - Date██/████
Subject: D-4611 (Suffers from arachnophobia)
Procedure: D-4611 is instructed to touch SCP-xxxx with a strand of their hair.
Results: D-4611 gives no useful feedback upon touching the object. When subsequently instructed to allow a tarantula to move over their hands, D-4611 complies easily and expresses surprise that they were ever frightened by spiders.
Analysis: A strand of hair is enough to qualify as 'touching' for this object. What about touching it through a piece of clothing? -Dr Nkosi
Test C - Date██/████
Subject: D-4603 (Suffers from cynophobia)
Procedure: D-4603 is instructed to touch SCP-xxxx with the palm of their hand while wearing gloves.
Results: D-4603 states that they feel ‘at peace’ shortly after touching the object. When subsequently instructed to deliver a dog treat to one of Site-19’s bomb-sniffing dogs, D-4603 did so happily, displaying no signs of stress or fear.
Analysis: Touching the item through a piece of clothing also counts, apparently. At what point is it no longer 'touching' the subject? More testing necessary. -Dr Nkosi
Test D - Date██/████
Subject: D-3997 (Suffers from coulrophobia)
Procedure: D-3997 is instructed to hold a 2-inch thick piece of insulation foam between them and SCP-xxxx, and then touch their palm to the insulation foam while it is pressed against the surface of SCP-xxxx
Results: D-3997 reports that they ‘feel relieved’ after touching the foam which was touching the object. When junior researcher ████████ entered the room wearing clown facepaint, D-3997 suffered a severe anxiety attack.
Analysis: Apparently the feelings of calm that subjects report when initially touching the object are mostly a placebo. Touching another object that happens to be touching the sign seems to not meet the requirements for 'touching' it. -Dr Nkosi
