SCP-XXXX [The Future of History]

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept on a standard 8 gigabyte USB flash drive at Site-15. Under no circumstances are the contents of the USB drive to be copied, altered or deleted. This drive is to be kept in a standard non-humanoid containment cell. CCTV must monitor both the inside and outside the cell at all times.

All testing must require the formal, written approval of one (1) Level 4 personnel.

Revised containment procedures (following Interview Log SCP-XXXX-A): SCP-XXXX is to be kept on a standard 8 gigabyte USB flash drive at Site-15. Under no circumstances are the contents of the USB drive to be copied, altered or deleted. This drive is to be kept in a standard non-humanoid containment cell. CCTV must monitor both the inside and outside the cell at all times. The cell is to be guarded by no less than two (2) security personnel, armed with Class-5 tactical weaponry. The guards are to be stationed outside the cell and allow no access to unauthorized personnel.

All testing has been suspended indefinitely.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous copy of the 2016 computer game “Hearts of Iron IV”, developed by Paradox Interactive. The files are stored on a non discrepant USB flash drive of 8 gigabyte capacity. The files constitute approximately 2.3 gigabytes of data, which is equal to non-anomalous copies of the game. SCP-XXXX is not linked to any third party software and can simply run through the double-clicking of the file labelled “launcher.exe”.

SCP-XXXX cannot be played in multiplayer, as the button is greyed out and states “Game files corrupted”. An analysis of the menu screen yields no irregularities.

The anomalous features manifest when SCP-XXXX is played by any humanoid in single player with “Ironman Mode” activated. Ironman mode does not allow the player to reload older versions of the game, but only save the current version. The player can pick any country they choose in either of the base game start dates, 1936 or 1939. The player can play the game normally as if it were a non-anomolaus version of Hearts of Iron IV.

Once the player saves the SCP-XXXX through the menu screen, they are transported to an alternate reality. This new reality is based off of the scenario in SCP-XXXX occuring in the past, and thus altering the future. The player is transported instantly by unknown means. Video recording shows them to simply be there at one frame, and gone the next. Autosaves seem to have no effect.

For example, a player controls a country and conquers another. Once SCP-XXXX is saved, the reality they are transported to will have the player’s country exerting significant influence over whatever modern day region corresponds with the other country. This influence varies from game to game, but may include: colony status, annexed status, a puppet government or an ideology in line with the controlled country.

SCP-XXXX remains in our baseline reality (hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1), although the transported player of SCP-XXXX also always has a version of SCP-XXXX in their new reality.

Due to the insignificant nature of Second World War events on the universe as a whole, negligible extraterrestrial effects have been recorded.

SCP-XXXX has various settings that can be manipulated before the beginning of the scenario in order to alter the outcome of the game. The most significant of these is the “historical AI focuses” checkbox. If checked, the countries’ artificial intelligence will follow a historical path of events (unless altered by the player). If SCP-XXXX is saved with “historical AI focuses” on, World War 2 will occur historically and the player returned to SCP-XXXX-1.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX came to foundation attention on ██/03/2019, when a local police station in ████████, Texas, requested immediate psychiatric assistance from a nearby hospital. Agent Jazz ████, who was embedded within the senior hospital staff on an unrelated assignment, responded to the scene. The police station received a man (later identified as Mr █████) who claimed to have been transported to a Nazi-controlled United States of America. He claimed that after saving his German world conquest ironman game, reality had changed. He told Agent ████ that, after realizing his effects on reality, he managed to restore the present by saving another game with “historical AI focuses”. Agent ████, fearing very likely SCP activity, requested backup from local Foundation Site-██. Foundation agents raided Mr █████’s place of residence and discovered SCP-XXXX in its current USB flash drive. The agents confirmed anomalous activity, but determined that it was the user that was transported, and not reality that was altered. Once anomalous activity was confirmed, all civilians involved in the scenario were treated with Class-A amnestics, a cover story was established and SCP-XXXX was transported to Site-15, where it currently resides.

Testing Log: Below is the testing log for SCP-XXXX. The acting agent was instructed to play the game with specific instructions and save the game. Once the game was saved and the agent transported, the agent was instructed to take brief notes on the state of the world before returning to present reality (SCP-XXXX-1) using the “historical AI focuses” feature. The agent then reported the results. From this point on, each universe will have a designation correlating with what test it was produced with. For example, baseline reality is created by test 1, therefore baseline reality is SCP-XXXX-1.

Test # Actions Taken while Operating SCP-XXXX Result
1 Start the game with “historical AI focuses” on. Immediately save the game. Agent ████ was not transported.
2 Play as the United Kingdom in 1936. Conquer Ireland. Save the game. Agent ████ made their way to the SCP-XXXX-2 Foundation’s intelligence room to locate a map. Agent ████ returned to SCP-XXXX-1 once confirming the United Kingdom controlled all the British Isles.
3 Play as New Zealand in 1936. Hire a fascist demagogue and change government type to fascism. Save the game. Agent ████ accessed SCP-XXXX-3’s internet. The agent immediately noticed a news article titled “Commander in Chief of the Kiwi Empire Refuses to Submit to American Demands”. Agent ████ then returned to SCP-XXXX-1.
4 Play as the Soviet Union in 1936. Achieve world conquest before 1945. Save the game. Agent ████ successfully annexed the entire world as the Soviet Union. When transported, Agent ████ found themself in SCP-XXXX-4’s Site-15, apparently owned by “The People’s Containment Security”. The agent, fearing discovery, immediately returned to SCP-XXXX-1.
5 Play as the United States historically until 1945. Once the war in Europe is over, commence Operation Unthinkable. Save the game. [Data Expunged]. Failsafe-Procedure-██ was activated successfully after ██ failed attempts. Agent ████ returned to SCP-XXXX-1 with severe radiation poisoning and later died while under Foundation medical treatment.
6 Play as the German Reich in 1939. Achieve world conquest before 1945. Save the game. Agent ██████ did not reappear for 87 hours. An individual returned to SCP-XXXX-1 that was not Agent ██████. The individual was promptly detained by on site security and questioned. See Interview Log SCP-XXXX-A for details.

Interview Log SCP-XXXX-A: Below is a transcript of the interview between Head Researcher Per ███████████ and the unknown individual from Test #6, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-A. SCP-XXXX-A was wearing what appeared to be a Gestapo uniform of Nazi Germany, albeit appearing to be much more modern in manufacture. The subject spoke English with a clear German accent.

[BEGIN LOG]

Head Researcher Per ███████████: Identify yourself.

SCP-XXXX-A: My name is Oberleutnant Elias Schmidt of the Greater German Gestapo.

Head Researcher Per ███████████: Where is Agent ██████?

SCP-XXXX-A: Agent ██████? Is he that spy that we apprehended near [REDACTED]?

Head Researcher Per ███████████: Where is he?

SCP-XXXX-A: Oh, you mustn’t worry about him. He was quite a rarity, you know. There aren’t many natural Americans left.

Head Researcher Per ███████████: Was?

SCP-XXXX-A: What?

Head Researcher Per ███████████: You just said “was”.

SCP-XXXX-A: Well of course. He received the same fate as all Jewish agents do.

Head Researcher Per ███████████: You mean to say that Agent ██████ is dead?

SCP-XXXX-A: Precisely. We gave him a quick death - a humane death. However, not before we asked him a few questions. Your little birdies love to sing, American. We were told quite the story. Quite the story indeed. A story about a special organisation, with special objects. Special objects that can be used for special purposes. Where are they?

Head Researcher Per ███████████: I’m not discussing anything with you.

SCP-XXXX-A: Oh you mustn't need to. We already know who you are. We have the machine now. We will come, and we will take. I promise you that, American.

[END LOG]

Following Interview Log SCP-XXXX-A, SCP-XXXX-A was transported to a standard humanoid containment cell, where it remains. Anticipating the arrival of more subjects, object class and containment procedures were revised.

Due to the results of Test #6, testing has been suspended indefinitely.
