SCP-5938

source

Items #: SCP-5938; SCP-5938-1

Object Class: Euclid

[NOTE: SCP-5938 and SCP5938-1 have switched designations. Due to the nature of SCP-5938’s arrival to the Foundation facility, it was decided that SCP-5938-1’s existence was owed to SCP-5938’s. See Description for details.]

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5938 is to be kept in a room measuring eight (8) metres square. This cell is to be lined with a minimum of eight (8) centimetres of polytetrafluoroethylene. The Polytetrafluoroethylene should then be lined with eight (8) centimetres of a nickel-molybdenum alloy. The final layer of the cell must be water, held in place by another casing of polytetrafluoroethylene.

The room itself is to be fitted with a Rapid Flood System of water and sodium hydroxide. This will allow Foundation personnel a timeframe of roughly five (5) minutes to contain SCP-5938 and SCP5938-1 in cases of accidental or purposeful spillage. If containment is not possible, personnel staff or to evacuate the facility with two-hundred (200) meters, and to attempt to convince SCP-5938 to contain SCP-5938-1 itself.

The interior of SCP-5938’s cell is to be comfortable. Subject is to be fed on a similar schedule to Foundation personal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and is allowed any items of recreation it desires (barring devices capable with connecting to any outside world systems). It is allowed access to research materials and equipment, though careful observation but be maintained during moments of experimentation. It is allowed unfettered access to amenities (toilets, showers), and is allowed privacy during these moments, as long as it leaves its protective suit and all scientific or medical equipment in view of cameras.

Should SCP-5938 attempt to produce analogous items similar to SCP-5938-1, it is to be stopped, and its equipment to be removed until approval has been granted for them to be returned after a time set by the facility director themselves (Protocol: Timeout).

SCP-5938-1 is to be kept from SCP-5938 at all times, except when under strict supervision by a heavily armed fireteam, wearing a category A1 HAZMAT system. SCP-5938 itself, when not in use, is to be kept in its designated safe, consisting of the same materials as SCP-5938’s cell, with dimensions measuring eight (8) centimetres square.

Description: SCP-5938 appears to be a non-analogous woman, measuring one hundred and sixty-one (161) centimetres in height, and weighing fifty-seven point one five (57.15) kilograms. It is of indeterminate age: when questioned, it either replies with a statement of our being rude to ask ‘her’, or suggests that ‘her’ age is not important to her work.

Subject is usually clothed in an unknown polymer hazmat suit, bright yellow, and similar in design to NASA SCAPE (‘Self Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble') suits. Attempts to discover the exact make up of subject’s suits have proved inconclusive. Several Foundation personnel, ranging from D-class and Security to Doctors and Scientists have stated that the colouration of SCP-5938’s suit is reminiscent of early 1970 and 1980s’ science fiction costumes.

SCP-5938-1 is an innocuous spray bottle bearing a well known brand associated with household cleaning. It is labelled as being ‘lemony fresh’. The bottle contains an unknown acidic substance.

This substance has been shown to be incredibly dangerous, able to eat through any substance (although the materials used in containment have been shown to retard its effects). It is most effective on biological matter.

The substance does not damage the bottle itself. Attempts to test the reasons for this have led to catastrophic loss of property and, in some cases, personnel’s limbs and, in the worst cases, their death.

The substance within does not appear to run out. Despite the amount of incidents, the level of substance within has remained unchanged.

Attempts to analyse the compounds therein have failed.

SCP-5938 shows great interest in discussing the contents of this spray bottle, and becomes increasingly agitated or withdrawn when it is removed from her cell. (See: ‘interview 4-00c’.)
Subject is usually amenable and friendly, often playfully flirting with members of staff, especially those she deems to be of high intelligence. To those she deems less intelligent, she is cold and aloof. Subject appears to have a firm grasp of various subjects such as biology, epidemiology, chemistry, and advanced physics. She shows great interest in discussing these with resident experts in these fields, though appears to have knowledge of non-existent materials, chemicals and elements.

(Note: it is unknown if these materials exist in some other ‘dimension’, an analogous universe to our own, or are simply undiscovered.)

Unusually, SCP-5938 actually presented itself to the Foundation, somehow finding her way to Site -██. and declaring herself as the creator of SCP-5938-1. After careful examination of the subject’s clothing, items about her person, and her physical body, she was allowed entry to the facility for interview and evaluation (see below).

Her appearance coincided with the discovery of SCP-5938 (initiating the change of designation between object and subject). SCP-5938 was discovered in an under-the-sink cupboard in the city of █████-, Russia, after the Foundation learned of a series of ‘disappearances’. These disappearances were usually reported to be found near bubbling piles of -██████-, where people had removed the bottle to use it for cleaning.

It is unknown why the use of SCP-5938-1 did not cause more damage. It is theorised that SCP-5938 was on hand to control and mitigate the acidic effects.

Interview 001.

Interviewer: Guard:

Interviewed: SCP-5938:

Guard: Halt! You are on private property. I am authorised to shoot to kill.

SCP-5938: Good morning, sir. I am Doctor Francesca Hoffmann. I would like to speak to the chief scientist here.

Guard: What? Why? How did you find this location?

SCP-5938: Please, young man, it is of the utmost importance I gain access and speak to whoever is in charge immediately. Your associates recently found an item of mine that, in the wrong hands, is very dangerous in your- [subject pauses] –sorry, the wrong hands. Without my care and instruction, the results could be catastrophic.

Guard: I can’t give you access to anything. How did you find this place?

SCP-5938: [Visibly annoyed] Look, you stupid man, time is of the essence! I demand you get on that radio there and contact someone with an iota more intellect than you. Tell them I have arrived, and need to be reunited with [REDACTED]* immediately!

[Guard radios for confirmation. Access is granted]

Guard: An escort is on its way. They’ll take you to our decontamination and interview rooms.

SCP-5938: Many thanks. And apologies for being rude, but I thought it the only way to appropriately get your attention.

<End Log>

Closing Statement: SCP-5938 was escorted into Site-██-, decontaminated (which she acquiesced to with no resistance), though she demanded her HAZMAT suit be returned to her immediately. She was assigned a low-security cell for observation.

The following interview took place after the first incident with SCP-5938-1. SCP-5938 is dressed in casual clothing. She insists on being called Doctor Hoffman:

Interviewed: SCP-5938

Interviewer: Doctor Adebe

Doctor Adebe: What exactly happened, Doctor?

SCP-5938: I can only presume one of your ill educated staff attempted to open my [REDACTED] and use it. How quickly did they succumb to its effects?

[Subject takes a pen and notepad from her desk, and leans forward expectantly. After sometime, Doctor Adebe responds.]

Doctor Adebe: Can you tell me what you think happened?

SCP-5938: Of course Doctor Adebe. I tead in your file that you graduated from MIT with doctorates in chemistry and physics. I’m sure you’ll understand. I [REDACTED- Subject proceeds to discuss chemicals and elements that cannot be found on advanced periodic tables. The exchange has been classed as Top Secret-1 until more is known.]

Doctor Adebe: So what is this chemical’s purpose? Why have you made it? And for whom?

SCP-5938: My financiers were very specific. I feel that what I’ve created more than fits the bill. May I call you Mose? You may call me Francesca if you like. Or Fran.

[Subject smiles at him. Doctor Adebe appears uncomfortable]

Doctor Adebe: Could you tell me the nature of your financiers… [hesitates] Francesca?

SCP-5938: Not currently, dear Mose. I need to spend some time at the site of the incident. May I please leave this chamber and escort you there? I need to report on the damage, and see if the [REDACTED]* needs further work. It sounds as though it’s become slightly unstable.

<End Log>

Closing Statement: [Doctor Adebe gained permission to take SCP-5938 to the incident site. What followed was a catastrophic release of SCP-5938-1’s contents, resulting in eight deaths, including Doctor Adebe’s. The more stringent security protocols above were immediately put into place.]

*Refers to SCP-5938-1 by some as of yet unknown chemical/elemental designator.

[[/div]]

[Interview takes place after SCP-5983 attempted to recreate SCP-5938-1, using unknown means. All materials given to her were checked for non-acidic properties, and the subject had claimed to be doing ‘electrical current and radio wave research’. By this point those staff most often in contact with the subject had begun to think of her as a human, and used more conversational designators when addressing her.]

SCP-5938: You don’t understand! If I cannot do my research, have access to [REDACTED], it may destabilise!

Doctor Neilsson: No, Doctor Hoffman. You’re an intelligent woman. You have to understand why we cannot let you play with [REDACTED]? You could use it to try and escape. We had to flood your chamber last month. So we’ve taken the subastance you made last week away from you.

SCP-5938: And I considered you a colleague. A friend, even.
Doctor Nielsson: Tell me what happened to the biological samples you used last month, when the second incident occurred.

SCP:-5938: I was testing the strentgh of the solution. Its rate of infection. The mice disintegrated incredibly quickly, no?

Doctor Nielsson: What came of those test subjects? What was it that came after? We [DATA EXPUNGED]. Of all of your experiments and accidents, the chemical has never had that effect on any test subject. It was almost as if they turned into [DATA EXPUNGED]. Is this the brief your employer gave you?

[The subject folds her arms and glares at the two-way video feed.]

SCP-5983: I cannot speak of my employers. You all know this. The compound worked perfectly. It is only improving. Just you wait and see.

[Subject suddenly becomes enraged. She picks up a chair and throws it into a wall.]

SCP-5983: You must return me to my work! It may be the only thing that can stop them! The formula must be complete!

Doctor Nielsson: So it is supposed to be a weapon, then? Who are they? What is this threat?

[Subject went silent at this point. She donned her HAZMAT suit and sat at her desk, writing notes and ignoring all attempts to communicate, offers of food and any apologies. She remained like this for two weeks. She showed no signs of malnutrition or sleep deprivation. These anomalous effects are being studied, though SCP-5938 resists and purposefully misleads the researchers.]

<End Log>

Closing Statement: Discussion of her purpose, employers, or the nature of her research continue to produce resistance and sometimes rage. Unclear if subject is merely frustrated, or if some other cause is to blame.

It is the Foundation’s opinion that SCP-5938 “Francesca” be monitored heavily, but allowed to continue her studies on the [REDACTED]. It may lead to her cooperation, and we may discover hirtherto unknown elements, furthering our own research.

It is also important to monitor her behaviour and keep her as relaxed as possible. Sedatives have proven ineffective, and she is impervious to gaseous analgesics when wearing her protective suit. She is susceptible, however, to subliminal messages encoded into classical music, which she seems to find inherently soothing.

ADDENDUM: The possibility that SCP-5938 is an alien of some description, whether of this universe, some other universe, or another dimension entirely, cannot be ruled out. Subject often makes mention of some threat, and more often of her employer, though no record of any Francesca Hoffman with her credentials can be found on any database.

SCP-5938-1 appears to have more analogous effects, particularly on biological materials and eintities, than first thought. When Doctor Hoffman is experimenting, try to ascertain just what comes out when she applies the substance to animals. It would seem that [DATA EXPUNGED] for some amount of time. Possible [DATA EXPUNGED] - Doctor [REDACTED]
