Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-(####) is to be contained in a 5x5x5 meter room. The object should be suspended in a small container of potassium hydroxide solution no less than 3 molar in concentration. Before any tests with the object, SCP-(####) should be thoroughly disinfected in boiling water and left to air-dry in its room.
Description: [Paragraphs explaining the description] SCP-(####) is a latex swim cap of a deep black color resembling the substance Vantablack. Upon contact with any animal a human being, it will instantly change its color and pattern. Both the color and the pattern that appear seem to depend on the subject, but common trends have been noted among patterns and the subjects' mental health states. SCP-(####) is indestructible, unable to be cut, torn, or otherwise damaged in any way.
SCP-(####) has a ranged cognitohazard in which anyone within exactly 10 meters of it will experience intense disorientation, often turning towards the object without noticing a change in direction. SCP-(####) also has a memetic effect which causes most people observing it to become entranced. Entranced people will walk towards it and pick it up but not wear it. It has been observed that the range and intensity of the cognitohazard can be dampened by the presence of hydroxide ions, and its memetic effect is blocked entirely by alkali metals and their ions and heavy metals and their ions.
Addendum: [Optional additional paragraphs] It has been observed that any person for whom SCP-(####) does not change its color appears to be immune to its memetic and cognitohazard effects.
Testing Log
Subject: D-####-#
Color:
Pattern:
Result:
Subject: D-####-1, a 29 year old male of European descent.
Color: Dark Blue (later identified as #0D34AB)
Pattern: Full Color
Result: After equipping the object, subject fell to the floor and began gasping for air and flailing, as if drowning. A nearby guard removed the object once the subject lost consciousness and performed CPR. Subject regained consciousness and coughed up roughly 2 liters of seawater.
Subject: D-####-2, a 22 year old female of Hispanic descent. Subject has a history of easily catching diseases. Subject has had chicken pox in the past.
Color: White (#FFFFFF)
Pattern: Red dots in a regular pattern
Result: Subject refused to equip object correctly and taunted researchers by setting it on her head. Subject broke out into hives. Subject jerked to scratch at them and the cap fell off. No change was observed in the subject's complexion and upon further inspection she was diagnosed with common chicken pox. Subject recovered as normal for a young child infected with the disease.
Notes: It appears SCP-#### has the ability to infect people with diseases, even if they should have full immunity to it. It also appears that it does not need to be equipped properly to induce effect, but it is unknown if it is a weaker effect. - Dr. K██████
Subject: D-####-3, a 37 year old male of African descent.
Color: Dark Green (#308B2C)
Pattern: A pattern of vines in a woven pattern
Result: Subject instructed to equip the cap similarly to D-####-2. Subject's skin turned the same shade of green as the object. Subject noticed no change. Subject instructed to equip object properly. Subject's complexion remained green, but froze. Subject shifted to a position with his arms thrown back and mouth wide open, as if attempting photosynthesis. After several minutes, several vines erupted from his mouth and quickly covered his entire body. Subject terminated and the vines retreated.
Notes: Not wearing SCP-#### correctly definitely results in a dampened effect. All future tests should start off with this incorrect form to see if results may be undesirable. - Dr. K██████
Subject: D-####-4, a 32 year old male of Southeastern Asian descent.
Color: Gray (#B4B4B4)
Pattern: Red, green, and black shapes vaguely resembling faces drawn with spray paint.
Result: D-####-4 transformed into a near-identical copy of SCP-173. Subject appeared to possess the same ability of only being able to move when unobserved, but unlike SCP-173, was not hostile. When the SCP-#### was removed, subject immediately returned to normal and revealed that he was completely in control and was completely conscious during the event.
