Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: All located instances of SCP-XXXX are to be held in a refrigerated containment unit. Under no circumstances should Non-SCP-XXXX edible products be introduced into the containment unit.
Description: All instances of SCP-XXXX are various food products from brand [REDACTED]. SCP-XXXX Incidences are generally perishable food items with long shelf lives, but can also include dairy products, condiments, and even produce.
No records show any markets or grocery stores containing incidences of SCP-XXXX ever purchasing or stocking [REDACTED] products, and yet the [REDACTED] products in the stores found are marked with the appropriate bar-codes and local store indicators, without any outward sign of not belonging.
The anomalous effects of a specific SCP-XXXX incidence do not manifest until the time of the marked "expiration date" on the specific incidence. Immediately following the passing of the marked date, The specific SCP-XXXX incidence begins an accelerated decomposition process, lasting up to (but no more than) two (2) minutes. When observed, the food item can be seen rapidly changing color to a dark brown or black, and rotting away, shriveling and shrinking and afterwards leaving no trace of its existence. Interestingly enough, the packaging purchased with the food seems to disintegrate completely as well, and on the same timescale, making deaths/injuries related to SCP-XXXX difficult to trace.
It should be noted that the SCP’s in question present their anomalous effects regardless of any chemical changes to the food or surrounding environments, including when mixed with non anomalous foods, or when assimilated into living flesh via digestion.
Discovery SCP-XXXX first was drawn to our attention after several families in a rural midwest community were suddenluy hospitalized
