Item #: 3428
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Item SCP-3428 is to be placed in a chamber outfitted with no less than 2 surveillance cameras. Each camera must feed into a closed-circuit television and must be watched by one personnel member daily for any differences in behavior.
Any break in visual contact will allow SCP-3428 to activate and replicate to any flat surface in a 100-meter radius. If SCP-3428 relocates Facility guards will be notified and will sweep the facility. If the item is found outside of its containment by any staff they must not attempt to handle the item themselves without proper safety equipment such as sterile gloves. Then they must not break eye contact until the item is placed back into containment.
Description: SCP- 3428 a small painted clay figure that looks vaguely like a cephalopod. The item is 10.14 cm in height with a width of 6.35 cm. The item is primarily painted a deep green with white tipped tentacles. Its eye is painted white with an aquamarine band around it. In the center of its eye is a hole that leads to a cavity inside SCP-3428. There is a secondary hole on the bottom of the item that is .7 mm in diameter.
SCP-3428, upon contact with skin, will cause mild irritation on point of contact on said spot for two to three hours after exposure. Viewing the item in direct line of sight for more than 10 minutes will cause the observer to experience a feeling of anxiety or discomfort which subsides upon looking away. If the item is observed for more than an hour the observer may experience mild to severe paranoia for two to four days citing that SCP-3428 wants to be left alone. This effect subsides after time passes or if class A or B amnesiacs are applied. Because of this property SCP-3428 must be viewed through a proxy, such as a television, as this prevents the item from affecting the observer.
Upon breaking eye contact with SCP-3428, the item will begin to crumble until it is nothing but a fine powder and then an intact copy of SCP-3428 will appear on any flat surface in a 100-meter radius. Personnel have cited hearing a feminine voice humming an undetermined tune emanating from the item after it has reappeared until eye contact has been established. The powder left behind has been tested and shows no anomalous properties and is just powdered clay.
It is also observed that when SCP-3428 is in the presence groups of personnel it may cease to exhibit anomalous properties until the numbers of the personnel lower. It is unknown how many personnel trigger this behavior as the amount varies from experiment leading us to believe that SCP-3428 may experience some form of sentience especially coupled with the characteristics of SCP-3428 previously mentioned.
Recovery: SCP-3428 was retrieved from [DATA EXPUNGED] High School on ██/██/2003 in █████, Nebraska, after a student attempted to commit suicide. The student had stated to authorities that he had attempted to damage the item and was being followed by the item. The student had no previous issues with mental health and so the foundation was alerted to its presence. SCP-3428 was then recovered in a computer lab, the second floor, however agents reported the item being originally on a separate floor.
School faculty reported assuming that a student had been moving the item from room to room which was affirmed by undercover foundation agents.
