Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX shall be stored in the wine cooler located in Annex-XXXX at Site 06-3. SCP-XXXX shall be imbibed by test subjects only on the second floor of Annex-XXXX. Any SCP-XXXX-1 instances created by testing of SCP-XXXX shall be evaluated for potential dangerous characteristics. If determined safe, they shall be housed in a standard human containment unit in Site 06-3. If determined dangerous, they shall be terminated immediately and amnestics administered to the test subject.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: When not being tested, SCP-XXXX is stored in the Foundation Anomalous Video Library. During tests, SCP-XXXX shall be viewed in a standard audio-video room that has been cleared of objects that could potentially be used as weapons. During viewing, an observer shall remain outside and unexposed to the sound or video of SCP-XXXX. After the viewing is complete, the observer shall supervise the subjects who have viewed SCP-XXXX to ensure their safety. After SCP-XXXX's anomalous effect has terminated, participants shall be debriefed by a Foundation psychiatrist.

Foundation staff may participate in tests of SCP-XXXX with approval from a supervisor, provided that all participants are staff and the test occurs during designated R&R time.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a digital versatile disc (DVD). Its label reads "Law & Order: SVU Myster Box". It is contained in a standard DVD case. The cover of the box features a photograph of the cast of Law & Order SVU, and displays a slightly longer title of "Law & Order: SVU Dinner Party Mystery Box".

When viewed in a DVD player, SCP-XXXX presents the viewer with a scene selection menu which lists 45 scenes. Each scene begins with the well-known Law & Order: SVU introduction, then shows an opening scene (in television parlance referred to as the "stinger") in which a victim is murdered and the show's detectives are brought on the scene. These stingers generally end with a pun related to the cause of death, then end.

When viewed by a single person, no anomalous effect has been observed. When viewed by two or more people, one viewer spontaneously falls to the floor, imitating death, upon completion of the stinger. The remaining viewers begin enacting the roles of the detectives on the scene, as well as eye-witnesses. The viewers proceed to act out a murder mystery that fits the scene viewed. During such an SCP-XXXX event, the viewers do not respond to their own names and do not show recollection of their real identities. As they act out the mystery, they may attempt to involve non-viewers in the event. If a non-viewer declines participation they remain unaffected, but compliant non-viewers rapidly take on a role and identity in the story just as the viewers did.

Once the mystery is resolved, participants immediately recall their identities. In debriefings, participants have shown detailed recollection of the scenarios, and even thoughts and feelings of the characters they played.

When participants have no weapons or weaponizable objects available, they safely pantomime any dangerous events within their story. If actual weapons or weaponizable objects are available, participants have consistently incorporated them into the story to dangerous effect. For this reason, ongoing research into SCP-XXXX must be performed in controlled environments with an unaffected monitor to steer participants away from dangerous objects.

SCP-XXXX came into foundation possession on 10/10/2008 after a report on an outbreak of mass hallucinations at a local mystery dinner club appeared in the Tulsa Gazette.

Test transcripts:
The following are transcripts of test viewings of SCP-XXXX. They are are composed of transcriptions from audio recordings of the participants, as well as the observation notes of the test monitor. Audio transcripts have been abridged or omitted where redundant with observation notes.

rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Site 874-Beta shall be monitored by at least two security personnel at each entrance. SCP-XXXX-1 shall be held shut with a wooden dowel 1.5 meters in length. SCP-XXXX-2 shall have a metal bar bolted across it to hold the switch in the ON position, and a locking cover shall be mounted over the top of the entire switch and switch place. The supervising researcher shall hold the key.

Several personnel shall pose as a family, coming and going from Site 874-Beta on a schedule that reasonably impersonates that of a typical family. Additional research and security personnel shall come and go posing as house guests.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a sliding glass door (SCP-XXXX-1) and light switch (SCP-XXXX-2) in the dining room of a house in Boise, Idaho.

When SCP-XXXX-2 is in the ON position, SCP-XXXX-2 behaves like an ordinary glass door. Entry and exit to the house are unimpeded and bring the user to the expected location. Switching SCP-XXXX-2 to the OFF position activates SCP-XXXX's anomalous effect, though this effect is not immediately apparent unless viewed during daylight.

When activated, SCP-XXXX-2 leads to an alternative version of Boise (Boise-XXXX). Boise-XXXX experiences continual darkness. No moon or sun are observable, and the stars appear closer and brighter than in the "standard" Boise (Boise-Prime). The patterns of stars in Boise-XXXX do not correspond to those found in Boise-Prime

Boise-XXXX is identical to Boise-Prime in every way save that all structures are completely vacant. While the outsides are painted and decorated as in Boise, the interiors have no flooring, paint, wallpaper, or any other adornment applied to the bare construction materials. Although there are no lights or appliances in Boise-XXXX's structures, electric devices brought by exploration teams do function when plugged into power outlets in these structures.

Outside the city limits of Boise-XXXX is a dense boreal forest covering all of the planet so far mapped by the Foundation. The Foundation is not aware of any additional anomalous properties of Boise-XXXX. It has yet to be determined whether the alternate Boise is another dimension, a physical tranformation of our own planet, another planet, or some other anomaly.

SCP-XXXX was discovered when the Boise Press-Gazette published an article describing a haunted house that had been abandoned repeatedly over the span of 3 years in the early Smith000s. The article was forwarded to the Foundation by local sources, at which time the Foundation purchased the house and established the present cover procedures.

Test Summary:

Research log, Dr. Arcia writing

I volunteered for this spot hoping to find some fun spiritual phenomena. The Foundation will be glad to know that I am still batting a perfect .000 on discovering ghosts in my career. Right after we came into the house one of the MTF guys, officer Smith, noticed that somebody had left the light switch by the back door on. When he turned it off the view through the door immediately went dark. I flipped it off and on a couple more times just to confirm what we were seeing.

We requested a remote camera vehicle and a couple mapping drones and got to work exploring through the door with the light switch off. As far as we can see with these methods, all of Boise is there, but outside that there's just dense forest as far as we could fly the drones and still get them back. The only break was a tiny clearing around the area the Great Salt Lake should be. We didn't see any animals or people. No sun ever rose despite these explorations lasting several days.

We've designated the anomaly SCP-XXXX. The door is designated SCP-XXXX-1 and the switch is SCP-XXXX-2. We've designated the alternate Boise as Boise-XXXX. Given the apparent lack of dangers, I'm requesting clearance from O5 to conduct manned surveys.

[O5 Approval granted. MTF-2525(Bailey Busters) to remain at Site 874-Beta as exploration and response team]
