Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-1 is to be contained in a standard 0,5x0,5x0,5 m anomalous item container.
Since SCP-XXXX manifests with a change of temperature, a vacuum is to be established and maintained within the container of SCP-XXXX-1, which should furthermore be stored in a thermally stable environment.
As long as the vacuum is maintained stable, some liberty may be taken towards the latter.
Should the vacuum be breached or destabilised in any way, SCP-XXXX-1 is to be brought into a safe distance of at least twenty (20) meters from all living organisms immediately before any other steps towards restoring containment are taken.
Description: SCP-XXXX-1 looks like a standard analogue thermometer for civilian use made out of birch wood, resembling a style which has been approximately dated to the 1880s. Its measuring tube contains Quicksilver, which was a common fluid for measurement up until the 20th century.
Instead of Celsius or Fahrenheit, the scale next to the tube seems to measure in a unit named "Bach" (its displayed symbol being °ᔰ) with the scale going from -125 °ᔰ to 0 °ᔰ, always showing -100°ᔰ when SCP-XXXX is not activated.
SCP-XXXX manifests when SCP-XXXX-1 is exposed to a change in temperature. The threshold of this change varies, its minimum has however been established to be Δ24,61°C, the reason for this specific minimum or the changing threshold is as of yet unknown. When this threshold is crossed, the temperature stops rising on any common thermometers, but instead starts rising on SCP-XXXX-1.
When the „temperature“ is higher than -90 °ᔰ, SCP-XXXX manifests and starts to have an immediate effect on all objects within a ~10 m radius.
