Lunar Rebel Radio
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: Containment of SCP-XXXX is to be the joint responsibility of the Foundation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Unusual Incidents Unit. Foundation and UIU personnel are to be placed in staff positions at each public secondary school in the United States equipped with a public address system and tasked with reporting anomalous transmissions originating from SCP-XXXX. Following a background check by the UIU, existing school staff may be recruited as temporary Level 0 personnel for this purpose to meet the extensive manpower requirements of this program. Personnel recruited in this manner are to be told that the broadcasts originate with a terrestrial communist movement infiltrating schools. Individuals exposed to transmissions originating from SCP-XXXX are to be amnescitized. Due to the extreme cost of the program and the perceived threat to American national security posed SCP-XXXX, the United States government has agreed to reimburse the Foundation for costs incurred by SCP-XXXX's containment. Negotiations with the United States government to facilitate neutralization of SCP-XXXX are underway.
Containment procedures updated as of 4/17/1961:
Following Incident XXXX-46, Foundation and UIU personnel are to be placed in staff positions at every public elementary and secondary school in the United States and tasked with reporting anomalous transmissions originating from SCP-XXXX. Neutralization of SCP-XXXX is expected to occur within the decade.
Containment procedures updated as of 2/6/1971:
Following the demolition of SCP-XXXX, minimal containment is necessary. Future human exploration and habitation of the moon is to be directed away from the Fra Mauro crater to prevent accidental discovery of the remains of SCP-XXXX-1.
These procedures may be updated as necessitated by changes in humanity's or the Foundation's presence on the moon.
Description: SCP-XXXX was a brick structure1 located near Cone crater on the moon. All entrances had been sealed from the inside, rendering the lunar surface inaccessible from SCP-XXXX prior to the initial mapping of the interior by the crew of Apollo 14. SCP-XXXX's interior appeared to function primarily as a school, with most rooms containing blackboards and students' desks in a variety of sizes2. SCP-XXXX also contained a large greenhouse, a cafeteria, a small chemistry lab3, and a small communal sleeping area4. Rooms were labeled with metal plates containing either a number (for classrooms) or a short description of the room's use. A plate reading "Library" had been removed from its original position and attached haphazardly to a door which, when opened, lead to a brick wall. A room without a plate was labeled "Lunar Rebel Radio" by a written note glued to the door. This room contained radio equipment anomalously modified to transmit messages to audio output systems normally incapable of receiving radio transmissions. The inhabitants of SCP-XXXX used this ability to transmit weekly propaganda broadcasts into randomly selected American public schools advocating drug use, youth autonomy, anti-capitalism, and free love. Later broadcasts identified themselves as the "official radio station of the Youth Interplanetary Party" and included instructions detailing a thaumaturgic ritual intended to alter marijuana to inhibit the effects of amnestic compounds in use by the Foundation at the time. The scarcity of thaumaturges among schoolchildren prevented this countermeasure from substantially impacting containment.
Although SCP-XXXX had sufficient space for hundreds of inhabitants, SCP-XXXX-1 was the only inhabitant on February 5th, 1971. SCP-XXXX-1 experienced lethal explosive decompression when the crew of Apollo 14 breached SCP-XXXX to begin initial exploration. Following thorough exploration and documentation of the contents of SCP-XXXX, the crew of Apollo 14 demolished SCP-XXXX with anomalous explosives, transmuting it into lunar regolith. However, SCP-XXXX-1's remains proved resistant to transmutation, and were instead buried on the lunar surface.
Incident XXXX-46: The 46th known broadcast from SCP-XXXX was the first known instance of a broadcast with anomalous content as well as the first known instance of a broadcast into an elementary school or school lacking a public address system. At roughly 8:50 AM, the school bell of ███████ Elementary in ██████████, ██ rang intermittently for five minutes, repeating "SHOOT FOR THE MOON" in Morse code. All individuals within earshot concluded this indicated the beginning of recess, which continued until the end of the day. Following this incident, containment efforts were expanded to include all American public schools.
