Item #: SCP-1848
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1848 is to be contained in a thick ballistic glass container within a secure temperature controlled room at Site-104. All personnel entering and exiting SCP-1848’s containment cell are required to undergo chemical sanitation and disinfection.
All samples of SCP-1848 are also to be located in well secured, temperature controlled laboratories. Access to these samples require a Level 3 security clearance or higher.
All experiments regarding SCP-1848, and its effects, are to be conducted on Class D personnel in a properly secured and quarantined cell. In the case of an on-site outbreak caused by a containment breach due to unseen or outside factors, HITs (High Impulse Thermobaric Fuel-Air Explosives) will be deployed to completely decontaminate Site-104 via O5-█ approval. In such a scenario, Site-104 will also be quarantined until it is deemed safe by MTF teams.
Due to the nature of SCP-1848, containment is rather easy if all protocol is strictly followed. Experiments are to be conducted until a cure or vaccine can be developed for the effects of SCP-1848.
Description: SCP-1848 is a titanium black vaporizer pen of an unknown make and model. SCP-1848 contains a reddish oil-based liquid within its tank. All attempts to break the tank and pen have proven to be unsuccessful and the liquid itself seems to never run out when poured onto a surface. The tank containing the e-juice also seems incapable of being separated from the body of the pen. The battery operating the vaporizer also seems to never run out of its charge.
Subjects who have inhaled the liquid by using the pen have stated that the flavor is often fruity, with a slight metallic after-taste. Whoever inhales the vapor of SCP-1848 not only becomes addicted to the e-juice but also contracts a highly infectious disease which has been proven to have a 100% mortality and infection rate. Exposure to mucous membranes and bodily fluids is how the virus is spread once it is in the body. However, any vapor ejected by a subject during a “hit” causes the virus to spread as an airborne pathogen through the vapor cloud itself.
Symptoms of the virus are not felt until ██ hours after infection, as the virus remains dormant before activation. This makes the virus virtually undetectable, outside of a blood sample, during its incubation period. Symptoms of the virus include, but are not limited to: difficulty breathing, high fever, nausea, explosive diarrhea, projectile vomiting, severe dementia and an eventual coma followed by clinical death. Infected subjects often die an agonizing death within ██ to ██ hours after the first symptoms begin to manifest.
SCP-1848 was discovered on ██-██-████ in the home of ██████ by members of MTF Beta-7 and Epsilon-6 after a deadly contagion outbreak occurred in the rural town of ████████ in upstate ██. After working closely with the Foundation, the U.S. Federal Government helped to cover-up the incident.
Addendum 1848-01: Dr. ████████ has requested to examine whether or not SCP-500 can cure the effects of SCP-1848. Request is still pending. Priority of such an experiment is deemed to be minimal as of this report.
Addendum 1848-02: Dr. West has requested further study of SCP-1848 to determine how its battery functions, in the hopes of developing a reliable and long-lasting portable power source for Foundation Mobile Task Forces and Field Agents.
