Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a locked cast iron or magnetite container at least 4cm thick, in such a way that physical contact cannot be made with the object without unlocking the container. The container should be stored in a standard single-anomaly containment chamber, with no other anomalous objects inside the chamber or within 5m of any side of the object.

Disclaimers must be placed on the entrance to the chamber, which are to read that those inside should not verbally communicate in any way or attempt to make physical contact with SCP-XXXX.

Electromagnetic field sensors, at least 6 with 1 on each wall of the chamber, are to monitor the activity of SCP-XXXX, and a dedicated computer is to constantly cross-correlate their readings with those of normal human REM ('deep sleep') activity. Should the correlation fall below an average of 0.7 over 20 seconds, alarm-XXXX should be sounded and Dr. ████████ alerted.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-YYYY is to be held in secure storage locker designed for small, Safe-class anomalous objects. Access should require a minimum of level 4 clearance. Only one user of SCP-YYYY is allowed at any time, and supervising personnell are required not to look into SCP-YYYY while in use. The maximum use time of SCP-YYYY should be limited to 15 seconds 5 minutes

Addendum 24/08/2018: Useage of SCP-YYYY is now prohibited without direct authorisation of the site director. Unauthorised use should be stopped with non-lethal force.

The eyepiece of SCP-YYYY has been fitted with an extended biometric eyepiece with retinal scanners and is linked to Alarm-YYYY. This does not add any optical equipment between the interior of SCP-YYYY and the user; SCP-YYYY functions identically as before 24/08/2018. Alarm should be tested monthly.

Usage of SCP-YYYY must not exceed more than 5 minutes per month, and users of SCP-YYYY should be treated as Class-E regardless of use time and should immediately report to screening for reality altering effects.

Description: SCP-YYYY is an optical instrument 12cm long, 2cm in radius, commonly reffered to and identical in appearance to a Kaleidoscope. It was first acquired in Austin, Texas, after widespread reports (6 known cases, potentially more) of uncurable hallucinations after looking in a 'knockoff kaleidoscope'. The primary section containing the eyepiece is 5cm long, and the secondary section is 7cm long, holding the glassplate. The exterior is covered in coated paper and is decorated with inked symbols of the Zodiac.

Unlike non-anomalous kaleidoscopes, the glassplate of SCP-YYYY is not translucent, and as such its inner properties are not visible without looking through the eyepiece. Destructive deconstruction is planned for

The anomalous properties of SCP-YYYY manifest when the kaleidoscope is viewed through the eyepiece. While using the kaleidoscope, users report seeing typical patterns produced by such optical devices, namely radial and geometric repetition.

After drawing away from the eyepiece, the user, in 100% of cases, reports hallucinations correlating with reality alteration. These hallucinations vary in severtiy, and are hypothesised to be proportional to 1. viewing time and 2. the amount that the secondary section is rotated to provide the kaleidoscopic effect while viewing. The hallucinations have been described as 'tearing away flesh', 'making the room swim' and 'turning everything wavy', corresponding with the hypothesis that SCP-YYYY causes users to hallucinate reality alteration.

The hallucinations tend to subside in 2 to 4 times the amount of time that the user has spent using SCP-YYYY.

ACQUISITION OF ITEM 47210 (PENDING DESIGNATION)

Item 47210 was acquired at 23:47 09/05/2018 from the Montgomery household in Austin, Texas, after paramedics were called there to deal with 'severe hallucinations' but found no symptoms or signs of chemicals that could have caused them.

Site-73, because of proximity and speciality in low-class anomalous objects, has taken control of the item and is planning to designate it an SCP if interviews affirm its anomalous properties.

The following experiment takes place in Site-73, laboratory E4.

Cawsley: Good morning [D-48720], I understand you've been fully briefed as to why we've asked you to come here?

D-48720: Yeah, got all that, something about non-ob… non-intrusive experiments and shortening my community service time. Yeah, had to sign it. All signed.

Cawsley: Excellent, then we're ready to start. If you'd like to come and take a seat.

D-48720 sits at a square table in the centre of E4. SCP-YYYY is covered in white cloth at the centre of the table.

Cawsley: When ready, please remove the cloth covering the object in front of you.

D-48720 complies after a short pause. SCP-YYYY is covered with a makeshift lens cover, and rolls slightly; D-48720 grabs it to stop it rolling further.

D-48720: Woah, uh, whoops. What's this?

Cawsley: It's a gift we're investigating for signs of tampering. (D-48720 is holding SCP-YYYY upright in his hand, looking at its design.) Don't wave it around please. We'd like you to remove the cover and look inside it when ready.

D-48720: Oh. Sorry. Okay. How does it-

The lens cover is removed from SCP-YYYY at 10:08:37. All personnell present apart from D-48720 look away from the object. Dr. Cawsley starts a stopwatch.

D-48720: -ah. Easy enough. So I just look in here, right?

D-48720 uses the eyepiece to look inside SCP-YYYY. Dr. Cawsley gives the all-clear hand signal; all personnel resume observation of D-48720.

Cawsley: Please report anything you noti-

D-48720: Oh! Oh I know this, it's one of those kleiscope things. I had one as a kid, wasn't red and blue like this one-

Cawsley: Please report anything you notice that doesn't seem right- that doesn't appear normal. Can you turn the far section to change the pattern?

D-48720: Yeah, ok. Yeah sure. Okay, yeah, it's all spinning now. All pretty and the like. Seems pretty normal.

Cawsley: Please continue to observe the patterns as you turn. You can point it at us if you'd like.

D-48720: Ok, sure. Got it.

D-48720 moves SCP-YYYY to point it at different objects. Speech omitted from log. At 10:10:43 Dr. Cawsley motions to the personnell present, who look away, and asks D-48720 to reaffix the lens cover. D-48720 complies, and sets down SCP-YYYY on the table. Note: D-48720 is still not facing any animate objects at this point.

Cawsley: How do you feel, [D-48720]?

D-48720: Yeah, not bad, all normal, nothing-

D-48720 turns around to face Dr. Cawsley and the other personnel in the room. Their behaviour changes significantly: it is hypothesised that this is when the hallucinations started.

D-48720: Jesus Christ, your arm, Doc, it's in shreds!

Dr. Cawsley, who was examining the stopwatch, raises his arm in curiosity and waves it around.

D-48720: Oh, fuck! Oh fuck, stop it, Jesus, what's wrong with your faces?

SEC-73-084 and SEC-75-014 are looking at the others in the room in confusion. Wellmouth and Darogan are both taking notes; D-48720 is backing away in horror while looking from person to person.

Cawsley: Sorry that we had you detained, [D-48720]. Have the hallucinations stopped?

D-48720: Jesus. Yes, they have. A lot better now. Just wanted to close my damn eyes until it was over. Crap.

Cawsley: How long did it take until the hallucinations stopped?

D-48720: I don't know. I wasn't watching the time. (Pause) I think I was being dragged along by those two guys you had. Wasn't in here yet.

Cawsley: No more than a few minutes, then. Excellent. Can you describe using [SCP-YYYY]?

D-48720: Uh, how? I just put it up to my eye, turned it like you told me.

Cawsley: Hm- was there anything abnormal about it? Did you feel anything change while you used it?

D-48720: Uh… (Pause) No, no. Just felt like using a toy. I don't know. I didn't notice anything wrong.

Cawsley: Really? Nothing?

Darogan: Did you feel like it interfered with your eyesight when in use?

D-48720: No- no, it felt normal. I didn't notice anything. Maybe I was too focused on the colours.

Darogan: Huh.

Cawsley: Okay, let's move on to the effects. Tell me what you saw when you turned around.

D-48720: It was… horrible. I could see… inside people. But, like, they didn't bleed. When you waved your arm, doc, it was like… I'd dropped ink. But the ink was spilled in the air, and the ink was… well, your arm. A dozen fingers on one hand once, spread out like those [Asian] fans. Then only 5, then more again. And your arm, it was like- you ever see those [Asian] dancers with the ribbons in the air, and how they hang there and move around like that? (D-48720 makes slow motions in the air with both arms) That was your arm.

Cawsley: Very interesting, thank you. And-

D-48720: But the faces, and when they (gestures to SEC-75-014) came to grab me- God, ugh, I couldn't watch. I couldn't look any more. Your whole bodies- I could see them, see through them all, it was like the [guard] was moving only a few bits at a time. Like I was tipping puzzle pieces off a table. I saw your brain, doc, when you turned to them.

Darogan: But the walls, the tables, the doors- they were normal?

D-48720: Yes. No! No, the doors would… twist and break whenever they were opened.

Cawsley: Hmm.

Darogan: One more thing, if you don't mind. I looked through your file-

Cawsley: But you don't have acc-

Darogan: It was on your desk, Felix. [D-48720], you did some brief training with inking and tatoos. Correct? Could you draw what you saw?

D-48720: Oh, uh, maybe. But, uh, I'm not a good artist. Like, not for tattoos, that's why I didn't stick with that. I do more, uh, I do better stuff in abstract.

Darogan: That sounds suitable. Permission for appropriate supplies, Felix?

Cawsley: I- ye- Granted, Paige. What's your preferred medium, [D-48720]?

D-48720: Oh, uh, a brush and a toothpick would be plenty. And a pot of ink! Don't forget that. And a drink, if you have one. (Pause) Will I, uh, get extra time off for this?

Cawsley: … I don't see why not. You've done well so far. Thank you for your time, [D-48720].

Note: D-48720 was administered appropriate amnestics before leaving Site-73. The cover story for his reduced community service was good compliance with helping laboratory staff in the deparment of material science with daily operations.

Attempts to dodge and run away from the ball. When interviewed afterwards, reports the ball "split" just as they prepared to pick it up; ball "fell apart" while being moved by subject, explaining why they dropped it. Movement away from ball explained by "I was trying not to get hit by shreds of ball". Subject reports they were able to see inside ball. Ball exhibited no anomalous qualities. Subject later amnesticised.

Dr. Darogan is seen escorting personnel after experiment SCP-YYYY-E8. She enters the room, but breaks protocol by not returning SCP-YYYY to its designated storage. SCP is taken to her office, where she begins to use it.

After approximately 1 minute 17 seconds, she stops looking through SCP-YYYY and starts looking and moving around the room. Darogan's movement at this point is normal. Suddenly, movement ceases. Darogan recoils from area where her desk is, and proceeds to run out of the office door with SCP-YYYY.

Darogan: Breach! Breach! Help! Breach in my office!

Darogan is running towards Dr. Cawsley's office on the same floor as personnel become aware of her shouting. Video feed of her office shows no signs of breach.

Approximately 3 seconds after Darogan left her office, Cawsley is seen leaving his office with haste.

Cawsley: Paige, what's going on? Where are th- Paige, is that YYYY?

At this point, there is a loud crashing sound and an oversized mechanical pencil (SCP number pending) is seen breaking through the floor in Darogan's office, displacing her desk and causing a hole approx. 0.7m wide in the floor below.

This event was caused during an investigation into a newly acquired anomalous object; the aforementioned pen violently expanded in size temporarily when its end button was pressed downstairs, and it breached Darogan's office floor.

The time passed between Darogan leaving her office and the pen breaching the floor was approximately 9 seconds.

Darogan: I had a hypothesis.

Cawsley: You what?

Darogan: I needed to test it.

Pause

Darogan: I'm really sorry, Felix. But I needed to know for myself. It's bizzarre, I've never experienced anything like it. But now I think I understand.

Cawsley: Paige, I'm going to have to take you off this if the higher-ups-

Darogan: Felix. It may have saved my life. Or at least my leg. I saw the breach.

Cawsley: Paige, you were with me when it breached.

Darogan: No, I saw it. I saw it before it happened.

Cawsley: What the hell are you on about, Paige?

Pause

Darogan: Two weeks. I can't tell you for sure now, but give me two weeks and I'll make you a report.

Cawsley is visibly frustrated at this point.

Cawsley: You're going to lose me my job, Paige. How do I explain this to the others?

Darogan: Just tell them I hallucinated something else due to YYYY.

Cawsley sits opposite Darogan. His body language indicates fatigue.

Cawsley: If I didn't trust you, Paige, I'd call you reckless and a danger to the Site- no, the whole Foundation. This is not how we do things. But you sound convinced. I- I can't do this. You have to learn the format around here. You've had a goddamn year to get used to it. If you don't do things the right way, someone could get killed.

Darogan: I know. I'll use a proper room and fill out the forms next time.

Cawsley: That's not what I mean. Start small. Do benign shit. Don't go dosing yourself up with a full minute of God knows what's in that barrel and start screaming breach again or you'll get us all hauled off to Alaska or some other shithole. I'll make up something for the director. If you get better at this, then I'll give you more leeway.

Pause

Cawsley: I want a first draft of an SCP report without all the breach stuff on my desk tomorrow. I'll say you were examining it while writing the report. You were in a hurry cos it's Thursday; yeah, that'll stick. Just talk about its appearance, its locker, how it makes people go nuts. Get out and write it, and I'll deal with the rest.

Darogan stands up after a small pause and heads towards the door.

Cawsley: You're a smart kid. Dumb-as-rocks brave, but smart. Don't make me regret this.
