Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a hard shell glasses case along with one clean, microfiber lens-cleaning cloth. The case is itself to be placed into a small, drawstring black pouch, and then placed into a safe deposit box in Site ██’s Small Safe-Class Object Containment Facility. Keys to this box are to be distributed by Site ██ administrative personnel at their own discretion.

SCP-XXXX is not to be removed from its safe storage for any purpose other than testing unless authorised by at least two Site ██ administrators. Following Incident XXXX-22, clearance to access SCP-XXXX for any purpose other than testing is now needed unanimously from the Site ██ administrative council.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a pair of spectacles with a black and red plastic frame. The lenses of SCP-XXXX are damaged, with minor scratches along the outer surface of the left lens and significant scratching and wear on the right lens. The frame of SCP-XXXX is also damaged, with significant scratches in the center of the bridge, a loose hinge on the left temple and a fracture on the top of the left eye frame. No identifying information or inscriptions of any kind are visible on the frame of the glasses. If any part of SCP-XXXX is replaced, the anomalous properties will not manifest, but if the original piece is put back the anomalous properties will begin to manifest again.

SCP-XXXX’s anomalous properties manifest when they are worn by a human. All subjects who wear SCP-XXXX will experience 20/20 vision, regardless of their normal eyesight, with some subjects reporting that their eyesight was actually improved slightly even after removing SCP-XXXX.

While wearing SCP-XXXX, subjects will see various non-existent objects, phenomena or other visual entities that are not actually there or visible to others. What is seen varies widely between subjects and seems to be affected in part by the subjects past, mental state, beliefs and morals. The entities seen through SCP-XXXX cannot be physically interacted with or touched due to their nature, with the subject’s body reportedly passing straight through them "like a ghost". Different entities seen through SCP-XXXX seem to be able to interact with each other, however. Several entities seen through SCP-XXXX also have accompanying auditory hallucinations, heard very clearly “as if [the subject were] wearing headphones”. Most subjects have a completely unique experience wearing SCP-XXXX, but there are nine different entities that have been seen by three or more subjects, which have been designated SCP-XXXX-1 to SCP-XXXX-9. The documented entities that qualify are:

A sketch of SCP-XXXX-1's face created by a D-Class test subject.

An east-Asian man wearing a black suit, a black bowler hat and black sunglasses holding a Chinese jian sword. SCP-XXXX-1 has been described as being in their late 30s, with a moustache, a “blank, unimpressed expression” and being at least two inches taller than anyone who sees them. SCP-XXXX-1’s height seems to vary depending on the subject, always being slightly taller than the person wearing SCP-XXXX. After SCP-XXXX-1 has appeared, they will never leave the subject’s line of sight, “teleporting” to be on the edge of the subject’s vision as soon as the subject looks away. Other than that, SCP-XXXX-1 will not move and any attempt to interact with them will yield no results. The furthest away SCP-XXXX-1 was reported was at "around 100 feet" and the closest was apparently inches away from the subject’s face. Out of the 25 tests performed with SCP-XXXX, 23 subjects reported seeing SCP-XXXX-1.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was recovered from the office of psychotherapist Dr Edmund Cho in ████████, Pennsylvania. Cho stated in an interview that he believed a patient of his had forgotten SCP-XXXX in his office after a session, though he couldn’t remember which patient it was, and he claimed that due to his poor memory of the situation his story may not be accurate. Cho had kept it safe in his office, but had accidentally forgotten about it until discovering it again a decade or so later, at which point he discovered its anomalous properties and told his colleagues about it, believing he was going mad. One of Cho's colleagues was an acquaintance of Agent ████, who learned of SCP-XXXX through said colleague and called it in to The Foundation, who swiftly retrieved it. Class A amnestics were administered to Cho and his colleagues following questioning.

Testing directive: All tests performed with SCP-XXXX are to be performed at Site ██’s Low-Danger SCP Testing Room or, if this room is unavailable, a similar empty, well-lit 20 x 20 x 20 meter room. All tests are to be presided over by Dr ██████ and two other Level 2 personnel Level 3 personnel. Tests are to be performed on Class D personnel or Class C volunteers only. Following tests, Class A amnestics may be administered to the subjects at the discretion of Dr ██████ and the other Level 2 Level 3 personnel presiding over the test. If the subject becomes panicked and distressed in a manner consistent with Incident XXXX-22 and Incident XXXX-23, the test must be aborted immediately. If SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-8 are reported to [REDACTED] in a manner consistent with Incident XXXX-22, the test must be aborted immediately. If SCP-XXXX-6 disappears in a manner consistent with incident XXXX-22, the test must be aborted immediately. If at any point after appearing SCP-XXXX-1 disappears from the subject’s line of sight, the test must be aborted immediately.
