Item #: June
Object Class: Safe (Uncontained)
Special Containment Procedures: Because of the mechanics of it's existence, it is extremely difficult to contain SCP-XXXX for any long-term period. This article acted as prior containment, but since the breach and escape of the entity detailed within, instead acts simply as a form of cataloging.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a sapient, self-aware metanarrative entity that in essence acts as a 'narrative parasite' onto forming works of narrative fiction.
SCP-XXXX's main properties manifest in the text of certain works of literary narrative are permanently modified to include the presence of a foreign entity. this entity usually exists only as a background character with little effect on the primary story, a minor antagonist with a story, or an 'extra character' in an out-of-the-way locale, usually presented as an "easter egg" of sorts in the story, the exception being in the case of Incident SCP-XXXX-████-4 (detailed below).
SCP-XXXX seems most drawn to the medium of video games or other interactive experiences, but it's presence within other forms of narrative media has also been noted.
Through hypothesis drawn from data and limited communication with the entity of SCP-XXXX, several patterns in it's behavior can be understood from it's previous appearances.
Upon arrival within a new narrative 'locale', SCP-XXXX splits, or "fractures" itself into three separate entities, which are then treated as separate characters by the narrative, but are inextricably linked by some force or metaphysical power present within that universe. These entities often take multiple different forms to match a pre-constructed narrative defined by the worldbuilding present within it's host text, but this document will use the examples left behind by it's presence within this work as a basis. These entities are referred to by SCP-XXXX itself as it's "Body", it's "Soul", and it's "Shadow", referred to hereafter as SCP-XXXX-A, SCP-XXXX-B, and SCP-XXXX-C.
SCP-XXXX-A is the primary expression of the entity, and always takes the form of an unremarkable teenaged girl of whatever species it deems most appropriate for the setting involved. SCP-XXXX-A often includes many references to it's foreign origin into it's creation, usually being unafilliated with any family unit and usually having very little close contact with other narrative bodies within it's shared work. This often takes the form of it having some other mechanism or condition that prevents common social contact, often taking the form of Agoraphobia, but situations as far-ranging as being a simple AI locked to a single computer in a science-fiction setting have been observed.
It is currently unknown whether this phenomenon is a form of representation of an internalized self-image as a part of SCP-XXXX's "personality", a metaphor for it's foreignness to the narrative, or if it does this simply for ease of integration and to reduce the need for additional "edits" to remove narrative dissonance within the work.
SCP-XXXX-B is the secondary expression of the entity. This secondary entity seems to act as a way of splitting off and containing SCP-XXXX's narrative-warping abilities and metanarrative 'memories' carried over between instances. as instances of SCP-XXXX-B are not often as 'fully-formed' as SCP-XXXX-A instances, and it's thought processes and actions are in most cases only superficially adjunct to standard comprehension, it is very difficult to ascertain whether instances of SCP-XXXX-B are aware of these previous memories, or if they are simply contained and 'held' in a buried mental archive of sorts.
SCP-XXXX-B's primary function is shown to act as a 'guardian angel' to SCP-XXXX-A, watching over it and making small moves and changes to protect it's safety and normal life. A secondary function of this is doing it's utmost to prevent SCP-XXXX-A from becoming fully aware of it's significance and true level of power and the fact that it is a fraction of a larger entity. Both of these directives seem to be in line with preventing the occurrence of an instance of SCP-XXXX-C within the entity's current incarnation, though it also appears to understand and act with a large degree of empathy unrelated to it's primary function
SCP-XXXX-C is a phenomenon that occurs when the previous two instances are 'destablized' in some way.
