Item #: SCP-4338
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-4338 is to be kept in a 10ft x 10ft soundproof room. This room is to be monitored and recorded by a thermal video camera (to avoid lip reading) and accompanied by a speaker. No microphones are to enter the room containing SCP-4338. Upon a D-Class arriving at the facility, they will follow Protocol-Whisper. SCP-4338 is to be available to all personal for free use.
Description:
SCP-4338 is a cylinder-shaped machine on a 3 prong stand which measures at approximately 37.2 inches tall, 28.8 inch is long, and 14.9 inches wide, weighing in at a disproportionate 190.509 Kilograms. SCP-4338 is made up of metal cogs with a glass outer shell. Inside SCP-4338 is a numeric counter which counts in increments of 5. This counter goes from 0 to 1000.
When a secret is spoken within a 10-foot radius of SCP-4338, the cogs will turn, which increases the value on the machine and on the digital meter. For the value to increase, the secret must be only known to the speaker. The increase in value is determined by how much the speaker wants to keep the secret hidden. Upon telling their secret to SCP-4338, the speaker will feel at ease and their stress levels will reduce. Due to this, Foundation members are free to use SCP-4338 in order to alleviate stress while it also assists in adding to the counter. It is unknown whether this is an anomalous property or a natural reaction to revealing a secret.
The counter is perpetually going down at a rate of 5 per hour. If the secret is revealed to another sentient creature, the value which was previously added by the secret will be deducted. When the counter reaches 1000, the owner of SCP-4338 - the 05 council - will receive a secret which they want to know. Once this occurs, the counter will return to the 100 mark. If the counter reaches 0, the owner of SCP-4338 will have one of their secrets revealed, as well as all of the secrets previously told to SCP-4338. These secrets will appear in the form of a 3 by 5-inch note card in 12 point Arial font. This note card will appear in the possession of who the speaker wants to keep the secret from.
[[[+Protocol-Whisper - RESTRICTED ACCESS |[ACCESS GRANTED] Protocol-Whisper is a program for initiating D-Class personnel into the facility. Once a D-Class joins the foundation, they are taken to SCP-4338 and the following instructions are completed: [[code]] The room containing SCP-4338 is to be swept for microphones or unauthorized cameras. The D-Class is to enter the room and the door locked behind them. A site director is to enter into the monitor room for SCP-4338. The site director is subjected to a DNA test and keycard scan. This will activate an air-gapped computer, which will play a prerecorded message out of the speaker in the room containing SCP-4338. The message is of SCP-2247 reading the following script: “You must speak, out loud, every secret which you have told no one else. After you have finished speaking, you must never tell anyone these secrets.” [ If this computer is interfered with in any way, it is programmed to wipe its own memory and self-destruct. The purpose of this protocol is to protect foundation secrets by increasing the counter value of SCP-4338. The danger of this is if the audio is stolen, it could be used to reveal facility secrets. ]]
+Recovery Log
On 3-21-18, a report was filed that a riot was taking place in the small town of Pineswood, Washington, population 310. The national guard is sent out to assist. Upon entering the town, the National Guard reported that the citizens were not rioting, but rather were attacking and killing one another. They reported approximately half of the town was dead already. 20 hours after the incident began, the National Guard joined the violence, firing on the crowd and one another. The foundation sent in an armed team of 3 with hazmat suits, lead by Evan Jackson.
The team enters the town and begins to search the streets
Bodies litter the ground, many cars have crashed or gone through the walls of houses, and multiple pillars of smoke can be seen in the distance.
Jackson: “Beldoth, any survivors?”
Beldoth: “Nothing yet, sir.”
Stelling: “What do you think caused all this?”
Beldoth: “They killed each other, obviously.”
Stelling: “Yea, but why?”
Beldoth: “Impossible to tell right now, we need more information.”
Stelling: “They had us wear hazmat suits… maybe its a virus?”
Beldoth: “Let’s only hope. If it is, at least…”
Jackson: “You two, quiet!”
Beldoth: “Sorry sir.”
The group continues to explore the town, only finding more bodies.
Beldoth: “Sir, I think I found something. Its a note in the citizens’ pockets.”
Jackson: “Well? Get on with it. What does it say?”
Beldoth: “Illegible sir. I found one on multiple bodies, but they were covered in blood. The blood soaks the streets like rainfall.”
Stelling: “He- hey! I think I found something!”
Stelling’s camera shows SCP-4338 in a shed. Next to SCP-4338 were instructions on how the machine worked, and the cameras capture when the machine’s counter moves from 5 to 0. A not appears in each of their pockets, although only Beldoth’s camera was recovered. The card which appeared in Beldoth’s pocket read as follows:
“Stelling is an agent of The Serpent's Hand”
Two gunshots are heard and Beldoth falls to the ground.
Jackson and Beldoth’s bodies were recovered alongside SCP-4338. The Foundation is still searching for the location and true identity of Agent Stelling.

+Incident A
On 3-22-18, SCP-4338 was brought to site-XX. The researchers requested to test the effects of “revealing secrets” as written on the recovered note. This request was accepted, and on 3-22-18, the counter reduced to zero. On-site, approximately 23% of guards, 5% of researchers, and 90% of D-Class were declared deceased either by murder or suicide. The remaining people were given amnestics by order of the 05 council. It appears that no SCP’s were affected by this event. Protocol-Whisper was created shortly after to ensure that this event would never again take place.
During this event, the Chaos Insurgency also received information on a flaw in the security systems in site-XX. On 3-25-18, Chaos Insurgency raided site-XX and although they were driven out, they had retrieved SCP-4338. 20 hours later, the 05 council received a card detailing the location of the base where SCP-4338 was being held and the flaws in its security systems. In an attempt to gain more information, the Chaos Insurgency allowed the counter to reach 0. However, as the Chaos Insurgency was the new owner of SCP-4338, their secrets were revealed to the 05 council. SCP-4338 was quickly retrieved from the Chaos Insurgency along with multiple other SCPs.
Once the counter reaches 1000, a document will appear in the possession of the 05 council which details important information that is useful to the 05 council. This includes the true origins of SCP-173, etc, etc. However, all of this information has been fully redacted by the 05 council, save for one document. The documentation of SCP-4338, which you are reading now.
