Item described: SCP-XXXX ‘Tennow’
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Specimens of SCP-XXXX are to be individually kept in 5x5x5m3 galvanised steel cubes with a powerful electromagnetic coil behind each wall. A constant current must be put through these in order to maintain a strong magnetic field around the container. A temperature of 25°C must be observed along with a 40% humidity in order to keep the organism for attempting to phase into another suitable climate. All captured specimens of SCP-XXXX must be immediately transferred to Area 159 in northern ██████ to guarantee the year round external climate is never deemed suitable for the continued survival of any escaped individuals. Specimens must be feed every week with 200g of live cow offal and lamb’s heart, as well as a further 500g of well oxygenated lean red meat every other week. 2 litres of fresh blood must be provided daily. These must be provided by a team of three guards equipped with rebreathers and full body protection to minimise sedative gas exposure, one of which who carries the food, the other two carry sedative gas canisters that must be opened before entry into the containment chamber.
Description: SCP-XXXX are creatures of around 5 feet in height, and in shape vaguely resemble a human child with a distinct lack of genitalia. It has a large amount of straight black hair that falls around its head and shoulders, typically reaching about 2 feet. It also appear to lack a structured ribcage, and have no visible methods of excretion other than vomiting. SCP-XXXX’s most notable feature, however, is the lack of skin from the neck up, and the absence of a discernible nose. It also has finger like appendages which end in a blunt bone like protrusion. The function of this is yet to be understood, as it provides no purpose while hunting or feeding.
It also has a row of teeth which appear to be structured similarly to a razor blade on both the top and bottom jaw. Observation of feeding specimens show that thin layers of food are scraped off by these teeth in order for easy digestion and assimilation in its singular digestive tract. SCP-XXXX also is noted to prefer feeding off of live specimens, and may reject food which has not been freshly gathered from a live organism.
SCP-XXXX is mostly comprised of cultured foreign tissue which is gathered and reproduced after consumption. The only parts of the organism which are comprised of its own genetic sequence are its skeleton, brain, spinal column and digestive tract. All other organs and tissue are consumed and then reproduced on a large scale by specialist cells located in the digestive tract. These cells then behave and function normally. SCP-XXXX is also noted to be unable to produce its own blood cells. As a result, large quantities of blood must be ingested frequently in order to keep it alive.
SCP-XXXX has the unusual ability to phase through solid objects, but this seems to be hampered or even nullified in the presence of a strong magnetic field. The organ responsible for this is located near to the base of the spinal column, but it does not seem capable of functioning without direct input from the organism itself. SCP-XXXX will favour warm and humid temperatures, and will often attempt to phase to an area which meets these requirements, even if it is a distance of multiple kilometres between this area and its current location.
SCP-XXXX, as a result of this trait, will often appear in showers, saunas, swimming pools and bathrooms, sometimes even when in use. Due to their need for living cells, it is likely any organisms encountered will be killed on sight.
SCP-XXXX does not appear to engage in social behaviour, even for reproduction. It will attack and kill all organisms it finds, including others of its kind that it is not directly related to. It can, however, make a noise which is often compared to cicadas, especially in proximity to food. The reason for this is unknown, but research suggests that it in some way is used to search for ideal climates and also to alert others of its kind of its presence.
SCP-XXXX reproduces asexually by moving a small amount of cells from all its original organs to a cultured placenta formed by consuming and encouraging growth of cells of said organ from a pregnant victim. Species is irrelevant, even small organisms such as mice provide enough cells of this type to stimulate the reproduction process. These organs are then provided assimilated cells and blood from the parent organism, allowing the developing organism to grow. Once the developing organism reaches about 2 feet in height, it forces its way out of the abdomen of the adult. The adult organism will often eat much more than usual in order to heal the wound created by birthing, as standard for healing wounds or dealing with ingested pathogens. If a pathogen is ingested or acquired, SCP-XXXX automatically kills cells around the site of infection to prevent the spread of the pathogen.
From the notes of J. ████████:
‘It got out again last night. God knows how, we locked the containment chamber door with the strongest locks we had to hand. We only found out they’d gone when we found the remains of [REDACTED] on the floor of the women’s bathrooms. It was still feeding on her corpse, and we had to clear the entire sector with gasses to get the thing to sleep. We guess it somehow teleported there, but how it did it is a mystery. I’m requesting for it to be transferred to Area 159 in Finland; God only knows what’d happen if it got outside here. We’re all praying that it doesn’t get out again, because there isn’t much we know about this… thing yet, and I’d rather not have to learn it’s capabilities the hard way.’
