Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is not currently able to be contained, and an investigation into the origins is ongoing. Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are to be contained in a standard humanoid containment facility, and requests made are to be reviewed by appointed specialists. Areas from which instances of SCP-XXXX-2 have been recovered are to be closely observed. Persons exhibiting symptoms similar to that of SCP-XXXX are to be quarantined until it is clear if SCP-XXXX infection is occurring.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a contagious disease believed to have been artificially created. Upon contraction of SCP-XXXX, subjects have reported a mild discomfort originating in an arbitrary area of the body, often described as a mild throbbing sensation, which quickly spreads to encompass the entire body. Over the course of 1-2 weeks, the sensation increases in intensity, progressing to a stiffness in the muscles, then mild pain, which rapidly increases in intensity to a point where many subjects appear to be immobilized. Once the sensation's intensity reaches a certain point, subjects will not seem to be affected nearly as much, and their mental state will begin to sharply decline, becoming more animalistic and losing ability to do simple tasks such as arithmetic and forming grammatically correct sentences, until a point where brain function almost entirely stops. During the mental decline, subjects will gain a strong urge to mutilate and disfigure their bodies, and MRI scans have shown the brain changes significantly, to the point of being of an entirely different entity, henceforth referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. Cases have shown it is possible to resist the urge to self mutilate, and resulting instances of SCP-XXXX-2 will be physically impaired, showing difficulty with basic locomotion, speech, and higher motor functions.
The Foundation is currently searching for an origin point of SCP-XXXX. There are currently 3 areas designated for investigation due to these places experiencing outbreaks of SCP-XXXX. Sites of investigation are to be evacuated and persons told that the reason is faults in structural integrity and risk of high seismic activity. while the origin point of SCP-XXXX is still unknown, logs and writing that seem to pertain to it coming into existence and developing have been found. Portions of these logs are recorded in Addendum XXXX-C.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 vary widely in appearance, and minor physiological changes in infected subjects seem to have major impacts on the actions taken by said individual, and as such the appearance of the resulting instance of SCP-XXXX-2. Most instances of SCP-XXXX-2 appear to be missing seemingly random patches of skin, with heavily exposed sinew, and limbs with numerous points of articulation. After a period of 3 days on average, SCP-XXXX-1 will temporarily cease all brain functions not necessary for proper vitals to persist for approximately 3-5 hours. After this lapse in mental capabilities, higher brain functions will suddenly return.
Once higher brain functions return, SCP-XXXX-1 is considered mature, and is re dubbed SCP-XXXX-2, which appears to be sapient and highly intelligent, regardless of the mental capabilities of the subject prior to stage 2 infection. Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are typically fast and extremely hostile, and should be regarded with extreme caution. Interviews with the few unhostile instances have shown awareness of how they came into existence, but no memories prior to infection.
SCP-XXXX was discovered after a report of an unidentified animal coming from ████, North Dakota caught the attention of authorities, who notified the foundation of a potentially anomalous entity. The foundation then sent an escort team of 2 researchers and 3 armed guards, one of which was killed and another infected after initial contact. Infected personnel began to stutter and slur their speech, occasionally claiming to be filth. SCP-XXXX-2 instance was incapacitated and contained shortly after the event.

XXXX-2: I'm intrigued by you, and attacking won't help me observe.

XXXX-2: I'm assuming they're trying to purify you, but I see little reason for that.
Researcher: I see, are you aware that your body used to belong to a human?
XXXX-2: yes.
Researcher: How do you feel about this?
XXXX-2: This is how it is for all of us, I don't feel much of anything about it
Researcher: Can you tell me anything about the life of your host?
XXXX-2: No, I don't remember anything from before he got infected
Researcher: But you remember their gender.
XXXX-2: Yes, my memories start around the time the purification began.
Researcher: What is this 'purification' you keep referring to?
XXXX-2: Well, to you its just a strange disease. I am simply used to referring to it as purification.

XXXX-2: Why are you so intent on containment?
Researcher: What?
XXXX-2: Why do you contain these things? it seems unnecessary.
Researcher: We want the laypeople of the world to live comfortable lives, with things working the way they should.
XXXX-2: Hm, I can accept that answer, carry on.
Researcher: Thank you for cooperating, you will now be escorted back to your cell.

I keep seeing strange creatures throughout the city, their visage is burned into my mind, it's haunting. ever since I met that first one I've been feeling uncomfortable, it seems others are experiencing something similar. Whatever's going on, it can't be good, somethings going on and I can tell its probably dangerous.

It doesn't stop, I'm in so much pain. The creatures are everywhere now, I think they might've been people, no way to be sure though. Not sure if I'll be able to handle it if the pain gets much worse, I'm barely holding on as is. No one's coming to help either, there's no way people don't know about this, what's going on?

The pain is finally dissipating. I was attacked when I got up, whatever those creatures are, they're smart. I overhear small talk between some of them every once in a while. I need answers. The city is in ruins. I feel dirty, gonna try to find a river or something.

Finally, I'm here. He seems to have made some mistakes in his job. I'm assuming this log belongs to him, and I've decided to record some of my thoughts in here as well. I'm not sure who these armed people are, but I'm assuming they're here because of us. I shall observe them and attempt to understand their intent.
It seems my assumption is correct, I've heard them referring to some organization, most likely the one that sent them. The intent of these humans appears to be to try to contain us, I'm not sure how they plan to do that. but it appears they believe its necessary for some reason. What they plan on doing to us once captured is what worries me, I doubt isolation is their only intent.

The armed personnel have seemed to do their job with some casualties, to avoid unnecessary harm, I have agreed to come peacefully to their location, for some reason they decided to allow me to keep access to this journal, and have informed me of the date. I will record any interesting events that occur.

Addendum XXXX-C Logs believed to pertain to SCP-XXXX's origins.
I'm on the verge of a breakthrough. If this thing works, I'll be regarded as a visionary responsible for furthering our species. The next step of human evolution is drawing near.
I need more subjects, this is cruel I know, but the sacrifice will be worth the result.
So far subjects don't seem to be experiencing much. I'm starting to feel kinda uncomfortable.
It seems the project is still a bit off. I swear I'm this close. Subjects are going crazy. Where did I mess it up?
I'm starting to question His reason for this. He says the project is on track, but I'm starting to realize this might not work at all
