Special Containment Procedures: [Paragraphs explaining the procedures]
SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard
Description:
SCP-XXXX
use results in no physical motion, causes hallucinations in the driver relevant to the location they think they are driving to. Prolonged use results in severe and permanent brain damage, similar to advanced stages of vascular dementia.
SCP-XXXX is the designation for a nonfunctional, green 1978 Toyota Crown 2600 Deluxe sedan. SCP-XXXX-1 is an 87 year old Caucasian woman in an advanced stage of vascular dementia.
When not being interacted with, SCP-XXXX produces no measurable anomalous effects and is said to be in its 'inactive' state. Anomalous effects only manifest when a person capable of REM sleep enters the cabin, and performs actions normally associated with driving a car. This person must be sitting in the driver's seat and must be wearing their seat belt, otherwise the vehicle will remain inert. If the activation criteria have been met, the subject, hereafter referred to as SCP-XXXX-A, immediately becomes unresponsive and SCP-XXXX enters its active, or 'driving' state. Observers of SCP-XXXX report
Despite producing no other physical changes to the outside environment, SCP-XXXX has a profound effect on the human brain, sending the subject into a non-responsive state superficially resembling a coma. While in this state a person remains mentally aware, and perceives an environment outside of the car identical to a memory
is able to revisit a past memory of their choosing, although the exact method by which a memory is chosen is poorly understood. Subjects perceive themselves to be at whatever location the memory takes place at, and are able to explore interact with the environment as if it were real. The environment (and people within it) possess a level of detail that far exceeds what can be expected of standard human memory. The process is extremely harmful to most people, with 'trips' of more than a few minutes causing permanent damage to the brain from loss of blood flow, similar to a stroke. Repeated use results in an accelerated form of vascular dementia, with death occurring within weeks of first symptoms. Additionally, although there is no physical evidence of where a person goes, the memories of other people the 'driver' interacts with are edited in real time, which can result in severe psychological distress as the brain tries to cope with the conflicting memories.

Acquisition:
The car was first discovered in mid-western USA, originally owned by an elderly woman suffering from severe vascular dementia. We don't know the history of the car before this, but it appears to have been in her ownership for around 20 years, and for most of that time nothing unusual happened. On, [date], The Department of Analytics became aware of a significant increase in the number of patients being treated for schizophrenia, dementia, and epilepsy, and it was the subsequent investigation that lead to the car's discovery by the Foundation.
