Special Containment Procedures:
All instances of SCP-5941 are to be kept in a 6m deep 4m diameter circular steel pool filled with saltwater located at Site-██. Anyone entering the containment area of SCP-5941 are to be wearing a gas mask and protective equipment as to avoid being stung and breathing in any spores.
Currently, there are 23 instances of SCP-5941. Dr. █ is to be notified if any more instances of SCP-5941 appear.
Description:
SCP-5941 are several Jellyfish-like invertebrate approximately 7-16 cm in diameter and 16-22 cm in length. When a subject is stung by an instance of SCP-5941 small cysts form at the affected area. When the cysts fully form after about 5-12 minutes they ████, injuring the affected individual and releasing spores. The sting of SCP-5941 is described by D-2417 as "Like being shot with a pistol." and is extremely painful.
When analyzed, these spores seemed to have matching DNA to the subject and the DNA of an unknown species, if any of the spores are inhaled an instance of SCP-5941 will form inside the subject, killing them via internal cysts damaging internal organs within 5-24 hours.
The affected person(s) are given medical treatment almost immediately after contact testing with SCP-5941. If they are not given medical care, they can bleed out depending on where the sting occurred. Any subjects that expired due to SCP-5941's effects are to be incinerated to reduce the chances of personnel inhaling any spores.
It is unknown how the sting causes the cysts to form, tests have showed no difference in potency of SCP-5941 stings compared to a Box Jellyfish sting.
Discovery:
SCP-5941 was discovered in the Pacific Ocean ██ kilometers west of the Northern California Coastline in 2007. 3 civilians came into contact with SCP-5941 and started experiencing the symptoms described above, 911 was called after the cysts began to form, the SCP Foundation were contacted when one of SCP-5941 was discovered to have shared the DNA of the affected civilian.
When MTF Gamma-6 arrived at the civilian's boat the cysts ████ and released spores, 3 personnel and 1 civilian breathed in the spores and died █ hours later due to the unknown effects of SCP-5941. Later testing found a small instance of SCP-5941 inside the body of the civilian along with 16 cysts, all have ████. Gamma-6 treated the other 2 civilians and captured the SCP-5941 instances. The civilians were given amnestics shortly after the incident.
Later testing showed the full effects of SCP-5941.
