Item #: SCP-XXXX "Seeing Stars"

Object Class: Safe/Neutralized (indicate which class)

Special Containment Procedures: Currently, SCP-XXXX is believed to be either dead or hibernating indefinitely in deep space near the Milky Way Galaxy, far beyond our current reach. SCP-XXXX-1 is stored in a glass case in Site-XX, where it can be studied non-intrusively by any interested personnel. Due to the possible information stored in SCP-XXXX-1, potentially destructive testing is subject to approval of at least one member of the O5 council.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a crystalline rock formation roughly 50cm in height and 25cm in diameter. The mineral is of an unknown composition that forms into concentric squares similar to bismuth, but grey in color. Humans within 10m of SCP-XXXX are occasionally compelled to find a nearby flat surface and create specific marks on it, using a writing tool, or, if none are available, blunt force with any available tools. Until they find a surface to mark and a tool to mark with, subjects report a feeling of terror, dread, and desperation. After marking the surface, the compulsion is dispelled without any adverse side effects. This compulsion seems to occur once every 4 hours.

SCP-XXXX was retrieved from a meteor impact site in Poland by a group of astronomers after a meteor seemingly "appeared" roughly 500 km above the surface of the Earth and fell to the ground. No known asteroids or celestial anomalies matched the meteor's trajectory. Once its anomalous effects became apparent, the GOC attempted to claim SCP-XXXX with plans to melt it down, but a Foundation operative arrived at the site and noticed that the marks the crystal was compelling the researchers to draw looked almost exactly like the SCP Foundation's insignia. The Foundation was notified, and immediately stepped in. They interviewed the researchers, who had zero prior knowledge of the Foundation's existence, applied amnestics, and took SCP-XXXX into containment.

Dr. Michalski was tasked with researching SCP-XXXX's anomalous nature and effects. Since being taken into containment, SCP-XXXX no longer compelled subjects to create the SCP Foundation insignia, but instead compelled them to create 47 identical marks in specific locations relative to each other, precise to .5nm across repeated compulsions.

SCP-XXXX-1 is a slab of metal roughly 30 cm in length, 20 cm in width, and 10 cm tall. There are several markings in an unknown script on the sides. The top and bottom appear smooth, but are actually covered in extremely small ridges that can only be observed with a powerful microscope. These ridges are about 4 cm deep, and are covered in microscopic markings, none of which can be identified or interpreted so far. It was recovered after the breach incident caused by Dr. Michalski (See Addendum: Breach Incident Report) and is believed to contain an immense amount of technological information that could explain the science behind countless anomalies, if it can be interpreted.
