Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: safe
Special Containment Procedures: The SCP is locked in a small box and kept in a dark room where a buzzing sound is played at a higher decibel than the SCP's siren melody in order to drown it out. Scientists who do weekly checks and tests upon the SCP are equipped with sound cancelling headphones and are allowed to play any genre of music besides classical to add extra protection while handling it (Classical music seemed to have no affect on the siren melody used to entice subjects).
Description: SCP-XXXX is a small hand held music box with what appears to be a ballerina on the inside. when opened the ballerina folds out and a small handle is revealed and plays a out of tune melody in response to cranking the device. SCP-XXXX attaches itself to a human host via a mental link within minutes of contact. The host feels a indescribable need to turn the handle and will attempt to do so until they are either successful or restrained and moved to a distance of ten meters away from the SCP. It was discovered in a Suburban neighborhood owned by a family of three (Mother, Father, male child of 9 years). The item was a gift from a family member meant to help calm and sooth the child to sleep due to his fear of the dark. The child was found dead with his pupils extremely dilated and not responding. His ear drums were also damaged from the inside out. Later inspection from a coroner revealed that the child was without sight and hearing for approximately 10 minutes before death.
The foundation safely removed the SCP from the family's household and proceeded to test the device. Due to a mishap with the transportation of the device, a member came into contact with the SCP and for some reason was attracted to it, and later stated that he heard a melody and was unable to control himself. They soon began turning the handle and screaming in agony as the tune played. the SCP was eventually removed from the scientists hands and he was safely escorted ten meters away from it. After he began to calm down, further questioning revealed that the ballerina on the SCP turns into a depiction of the human hosts worst nightmare and begins to affect only their body and mind without affecting other surrounding organisms. Further testing shows that if a host is to conquer their fear, the SCP will stop its attacks and instead play a soothing melody.
Addendum: The SCP seems to attaches itself mentally to a host by playing a tune that can only be heard by the targeted subject. It also seems to choose its targets based upon specific fears that can be depicted. For an example: If the target fears death, the SCP will ignore it. It also attaches itself to a host based on the strength of the fear.
