Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: All instances are contained at Site-64 Anomalous Electronics Lab. SCP-XXXX instances are to be cut off from electricity sources unless testing has been approved, during which lights must be dimmed to at least 50 W to serve as a fuel source for SCP-XXXX. Rooms are to be kept at a temperature between 10°C and 21°C (50°F and 69°F) to prevent further decay of SCP-XXXX samples.

Due to the behavior of SCP-XXXX-A specimens around waking personnel, they are to be studied using video feed into the testing chamber. Walls of the testing room are to be lined with reinforced concrete in order to prevent temporary loss of testing staff should an instance of SCP-XXXX-A become agitated.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a collective designation for 35 29 (See Addendum B) incandescent light bulbs, SCP-XXXX-1 to -29, respectively. The E27 screw bases are composed of iron as opposed to aluminum seen in most modern light bulbs, and filaments are made from unidentified black material with a deep purple glow. The interiors show signs of significant burning, although this appears to take no affect on SCP-XXXXs' properties. Air inside each bulb is 56% Lead, 29% Krypton, 13% Carbon, and 2% other trace gases. Although bulbs contain significant amounts of gaseous lead and carbon, the bulbs output no heat, and it is unknown how the elements remain so. Studying the filaments closer than external observation is currently impossible, seeing as when any breach of the bulbs' air seal appears, the filament dissolves upon contact with the outside atmosphere.

When an electric current is applied, SCP-XXXX will "shine" with the equivalent of 60 W, however light will instead be leeched from the object's surroundings, creating darkness. SCP-XXXX can only absorb light from artificial sources, and will the anomaly not activate in natural light, either sunlight or bio-luminescence. The effect can be overpowered easily using light sources stronger than 60 W; however, this does not negate its effect. The power of the bulb is compressed until it creates a vertical column of nearly opaque "black light", suggesting that the "light" has an extraordinarily small amount of mass.

If the room that an SCP-XXXX is located in at the time is rendered empty of all artificial light via anomalous means, and victims are within the area of influence, said victims will fall into a deep sleep after approximately 25 seconds. No tested methods of waking affected victims have proven effectual, as sound does not seem to disturb them and no personnel can safely enter the testing room.

SCP-XXXX-A are translucent purple entities that manifest once every victim within the room has fallen asleep. At least one instance will appear for each person affected.
