At the request of the O5 council, testing on SCP-XXXX is to be discontinued until further notice due to the possibility of a large scale information breach.
- Dr. Matthews
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Experimentation involving SCP-XXXX must be approved by Dr. Matthews and at least two other Level 3 Researchers assigned to SCP-XXXX three members of the O5 Council. SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a steel door frame attached to a shatter-resistant glass door designated the “Home Door” kept within Research Cell XXXX-A at Site-██. The interior doors of SCP-XXXX must be held open at all times by two 10cm thick metal bars and guarded by 3 members of Site-██ security staff at all times, one of whom should be stationed inside of SCP-XXXX. Security personnel are authorized to detain any personnel attempting to gain unauthorized entry to Research Cell XXXX-A.
Any ‘passengers’ discovered within SCP-XXXX are to be detained by on-site security and interrogated and terminated immediately if any signs of aggression are displayed.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an elevator car similar in appearance to that of traction elevators manufactured by █████ ████████ ███████████ in the early 1970s. SCP-XXXX functions similarly to non-anomalous elevators but exhibits the anomalous ability to travel between any two doorways, regardless of size, shape, or location, so long as the attached door is functional. SCP-XXXX is able to travel extreme distances at speeds presumably faster than the speed of light and has the ability to travel between dimensions, transporting any matter inside it along with it. Additionally, SCP-XXXX does not appear to take up any physical space outside of the doorway it occupies, however, doorways occupied by SCP-XXXX become blocked by a metal barrier that thus far has proven impenetrable to force.
The interior of SCP-XXXX is similar to that of other elevator cars, the only notable differences being the absence of a display screen and floor selection buttons with a twelve-button keypad in its place. Below the keypad are three buttons labeled "DOOR OPEN", "DOOR CLOSE", and "ALARM". Alongside the three buttons is a locked service panel. All attempts at opening the panel have been unsuccessful.
The elevator is operated using the keypad to input a code, designated the “floor number”, which determines the doorway SCP-XXXX travels to. There is no clear limit to the number of digits that can be input and floor numbers have no discernible pattern between them. Through testing, it has been determined that the * key is used to ‘enter’ inputs and that the # key can be used to return SCP-XXXX to the last doorway it occupied, which has been utilized to return SCP-XXXX to its chamber during experimentation. Since there is no display monitor within SCP-XXXX, there is currently no way to view a floor number after it has been input. Due to this, researchers must record any inputs made during experimentation and are limited to one destination per experiment to ensure SCP-XXXX is returned to its chamber.
When a floor number is input, SCP-XXXX’s doors will close, and then appear to move either upwards or downwards out of the doorway. SCP-XXXX will move between floors for a period of time ranging from 2 seconds to 24 hours, likely depending on the proximity of the floors. Upon arriving at the destination floor, will slow to a halt and open its doors.
Tracking and communication devices have proven unreliable in testing with SCP-XXXX, becoming unable to receive or transmit signals while not within a doorway, making communication during experimentation very difficult, often resulting in complete loss of contact with researchers.
Addendum XXXX-01: SCP-XXXX was initially discovered by ████ ████████, a member of Site-██'s janitorial staff, during routine cleaning of Site-██ at 11:58 AM on 10/15/2008. ████████ notified security personnel nearby as well as a research team who were reportedly on their way to the facility cafeteria. SCP-XXXX was later classified as an SCP and was relocated to Research Cell XXXX-A.
Addendum XXXX-02: The below document contains a series of logs from notable and significant experiments involving SCP-XXXX conducted between the dates of 10/15/2008 and 12/03/2012.
Addendum XXXX-03: [DATA CORRUPTED]
Addendum XXXX-04: Below is documentation of Event XXXX-1204. These events transpired between the hours of 3:00 AM and 4:01 AM on 12/04/2012.
Document E-XXXX-12-1204
<Time - 0300> SCP-XXXX activates and leaves Home Doorway.
<Time - 0310> SCP-XXXX returns to Home Doorway, its interior appears identical to its appearance prior to leaving.
<Time - 0311> Faint sounds of footsteps can be heard moving towards the door of Research Cell XXXX-A, followed by the door being opened by some unseen force.
<Time - 0327> The door to Dr. Matthews’ office is opened and lights are turned on by some unseen force.
<Time - 0328> Artifacts retrieved during Experiment XXXX-62 are lifted from Dr. Matthews’ desk, presumably by the same unseen force, lights are turned off, and the door to Dr. Matthews’ office is closed.
<Time - 0333> Door to Research Cell XXXX-A is closed. The research terminal within the chamber is activated, appears to access documentation of SCP-XXXX and edit Addendum XXXX-04.
<Time - 0355> Research terminal is shut down.
<Time - 0357> SCP XXXX is activated and leaves Home Doorway.
<Time - 0401> SCP-XXXX returns to Home Doorway containing a sheet of normal notebook paper and a manilla folder with a Foundation seal on it.
The items were discovered within SCP-XXXX by security staff at 7:30 AM during a routine inspection of Research Cell XXXX-A. Written on the sheet of notebook paper were the words “How does it feel?” in graphite. The folder contained several classified documents including [REDACTED] (files on a number of hostile SCP entities including SCP-096, SCP-682, and several others (this won’t be included in the document, but it's what goes in the redacted thing)). Following this event, the containment protocols for SCP-XXXX have been updated and all testing has been discontinued due to the possibility of further information breaches.
Addendum XXXX-05: On 2/19/2019, Researcher Miller sent the following Internal Memo to O5-██ and Dr. Matthews requesting permission to resume experimentation with SCP-XXXX. Approval for described research is currently pending.
From: Researcher Stephan Miller
To: O5-██, Dr. J. Matthews
Subject: Please, its been long enough
Look,
I've been thinking about what we found for over six years now. Whatever it was that caused the breach must have forgotten about us by now. What good are we to the world if we just let things like SCP-XXXX sit around for decades and collect dust. We're supposed to be a research facility, not a goddamned storage unit! I really think we may have been on to something too. I looked over my notes from those documents again and I think I may have been on to something. All I need is a few experiments. I promise there won't be any invisible people walking around after I'm done too.Stephan Miller
