Chronos Grande

Item #: SCP-4241*
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4241 is to be kept a in a steel safe with the dimensions of 2 x 2 x 5 meters that is suspended at least 4 meters off the ground. There is to be at least 3 meters of space between the the safe and the walls (See Addendum 4241-2). The entrance to the chamber containing the safe is to be locked and guarded by two guards while two other guards are stationed in the chamber. Access to the containment chamber will only be granted to those who obtain approval from no less than three Level 3 Researchers. All personnel with clearance to enter the chamber are to be stopped and instructed to take five steps in the opposite direction of SCP-4241. If they do not comply, the subject is to be designated SCP-4241-1 and detained immediately. Any personnel attempting to enter the chamber without approval is to be designated as SCP-4241-1 and detained. If SCP-4241-1 becomes hostile towards the guards and becomes a danger during detainment, termination of SCP-4241-1 is permitted. To prevent and excessive number of deaths, SCP-4241-1 is to kept alive for as long as possible.

Description: SCP-4241 is a replica painting of “The Scream” painted by Edvard Munch. The dimensions of the painting are 91 cm x 73.5 cm, the same dimensions as the original. SCP-4241 is harmless to all living creatures except to the humans designated as SCP-4241-1. SCP-4241 produces a sound wave powerful enough to penetrate any form of matter. The sound wave produced by SCP-4241 is long enough to travel around the world and has a frequency too high for non-anomalous humans to hear. How SCP-4241 produces this wave is unknown.

The wave produced by SCP-4241 has the ability to attract any human the painting desires. The subject attracted to SCP-4241 is designated SCP-4241-1. SCP-4241-1 travels in the direction of SCP-4241 within hours of first being targeted by the sound wave. The progression of the subject can not be halted without it becoming extremely anxious and aggravated. SCP-4241-1 is very docile while traveling towards SCP-4241, however it will attack anybody who impedes its progress. Site-██ is commonly breached by these subjects due to the common habit of attacking staff members before stealing their clothes and ID’s. All staff have been informed to be cautious of “absent-minded people in street clothes near Site-██”. In all documented containments of SCP-4241-1, none of the subjects have been observed sleeping. Subjects will refuse food and water, but have been observed alive after two weeks without either. SCP-4241-1 has an innate sense of direction and seem to be able to find SCP-4241 from anywhere in the world (See Addendum 4241-1).

When SCP-4241 comes in contact with SCP-4241-1, both subjects will begin to vibrate violently. The shaking has been observed to continue for up to 5 minutes. During the violent vibrating, subjects have been observed bleeding from the eye and ears and having teeth fly out of their mouths. The vibrating will continue until SCP-4241-1 is terminated by SCP-4241. All autopsies of SCP-4241-1 after contact with the painting have shown liquified brains and shattered eardrums. Whether they were shattered before or after contact is unknown. Upon the death of the subject, SCP-4241 immediately chooses a new subject to attract. The process that SCP-4241 undergoes to choose a follower is unknown, however the widely accepted theory is that the painting chooses randomly, due to the lack of proximity of most followers to Site-██. The next follower of SCP-4241 is to be the next subject designated SCP-4241-1.

The origins of SCP-4241 have been traced back to [DATA EXPUNGED], a painter from [DATA EXPUNGED]. The painter is unaware of the anomalous properties of the painting.

Addendum 4241-1: (1/██/15) 05-Council approves tests with both SCP-4241 and SCP-4241-1. Due to the docile nature of SCP-4241-1 while progressing towards the painting, he was placed in a random location on the first level of the facility. With a guard and scientist escort, the subject was able to navigate the facility perfectly, not taking a single wrong turn on its way to SCP-4241.

A second test was conducted placing SCP-4241-1 in [DATA EXPUNGED] approximately ██ kilometers from Site-██. Upon release, the subject started walking in the direction of Site-██ and did not stop until reaching the facility ██ hours later. The test concludes that SCP-4241-1 has the ability to find SCP-4241 from anywhere on the planet.

Testing of the effects of extraterrestrial travel on SCP-4241-1 have been submitted to the 05-Council.

Addendum 4241-2: (7/██/15) At ██ a.m., scratching is heard from within the safe containing SCP-4241-1. The Site Manager was alerted immediately and security was given permission to access the safe. Inside the safe a hole had been clawed through the steel wall of the safe. A small woman of Chinese descent was found dead inside the safe, holding onto the painting. The subject had dug a hole approximately ██ kilometers long. Damage to the hands and a lack of tools with the subject suggests that they created the hole and broke into the safe with their bare hands.

Special Containment Procedures have been changed to avoid the direct tunneling of SCP-4241-1 to SCP-4241. SCP-4241-1 shows superhuman strength and is to be considered dangerous when hostile. Further containments of SCP-4241-1 are to have stronger security measures taken. All further tests are to first be approved by the 05-Council.

Addendum 4241-3: (5/██/16) After months of consideration, the 05-Council rejects the testing of the effects of extraterrestrial travel on SCP-4241-1. Though extraterrestrial travel has been theorized to cure SCP-4241-1 of all effects of the sound wave created by SCP-4241, it is expensive and dangerous due to the likely agitated state of SCP-4241-1. Due to the recent examples of hostilities and superhuman strength of different subjects, the likelihood of a major loss is high.

Instead, the 05-Council approves of the termination of SCP-4241. The termination is to be overseen by Dr. Grange.

Addendum 4241-4: (1/██/17) Three attempts have been made to terminate SCP-4241 since the order was given by the 05-Council. All three attempts have ended in failure. The first attempt to terminate included attempting to light SCP-4241 on fire with a blowtorch. The painting appeared unaffected by the flame. The second attempt included putting drops of fluoroantimonic acid on the painting and seeing if it would corrode SCP-4241. The test ended with no effect. In the last attempt, SCP-4241 was placed in an industrial shredder before the machine was turned on. After being shredded, SCP-4241 was brought into contact with SCP-4241-1 to test if the anomalous properties were still present. In █ minutes, the subject was dead due to internal trauma.

Dr. Grange has been ordered to step down as Head of the termination of SCP-4241 and is to be replaced by [DATA EXPUNGED]. Further testing of the properties of SCP-4241 is under review by the 05-Council.
