Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Date of discovery: 9/1/2020

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is currently uncontained. Attempts at a quarantine are underway. Any samples of SCP-XXXX collected are to be sent to site-19. Samples of SCP-XXXX are to be left in a glass mason jar filled with fresh water and kept in a wooden shed separated from site-19 by at least 22 feet. In the event of a containment breach of SCP-XXXX all SCPs must be temporarily relocated from site-19 to site-08 until site-19 is deemed uninfected.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a collection of viroids and viruses composed of concrete, steel, and plastic. They range from 20nm to 8nm. SCP-XXXX infects buildings, most commonly houses and apartments, but can infect any building that is commonly frequented or used by humans. SCP-XXXX can only infect buildings after entering through an opening in the internal wall or flooring that leaves the insides exposed. SCP-XXXX has been shown to be dangerous as it causes the buildings it infects to quickly deteriorate and collapse, typically between 10-20 days. Buildings infected by SCP-XXXX experience frequent and seemingly unexplainable issues with power, reception, WiFi, piping, air conditioning, as well as an increase in mold growth. These issues increase in frequency and length for the duration of the infection. SCP-XXXX cannot infect humans or any other biological entity, however it has been hypothesized it might be possible for SCP-XXXX to evolve to infect vehicles, city infrastructure, or other machinery. Containment of SCP-XXXX is paramount.

Stages of Infection /Reproductive Cycle: When instances of SCP-XXXX enters the inside of a building it will remain dormant until allowed into a crack or hole that allows it to reach wires, insulation, pipes, or other internal structures. Once inside it will eat away at the ceiling, internal walls, and floor. Starting with chipping paint, even if the paint was recently applied. The infected spot will begin to crumble and break. Spots usually don't exceed 3ft in length and width. SCP-XXXX will then secrete a brown liquid that from the outside resembles rust, onto pipes or other pieces of metal. The brown liquid will use the material of the building available to it to construct more instances of SCP-XXXX. Once out of the brown liquid they will drift through the air. When someone goes to fix or investigate the damage, they will likely get large quantities of SCP-XXXX on them or their tools, increasing the chances of the spread of SCP-XXXX.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was first discovered when an entire neighborhood in Cheremkhovo, Russia had collapsed within a month. Investigators found a brown slime within the rubble of each house. Once the anomalous properties of the slime and SCP-XXXX was discovered MTF Beta-7 were dispatched to both the laboratory where SCP-XXXX was being researched, and to the destroyed neighborhood. MTF Gamma-5 was later dispatched to ensure that any knowledge around SCP-XXXX was erased and revealed to be a hoax. The investigators and researchers were given amnesiacs and all data around SCP-XXXX was either taken or later destroyed. SCP-XXXX has begun to appear more and more frequently over time, there are 107 currently known cases of SCP-XXXX.
