SCP-4528

Item #: SCP-4528 "Industrial Sponge"

Object Class: Euclid Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4528 A.K.A “The Industrial Sponge” is a Safe Class Anomaly which is currently stored in a sealed box with humidity control. The room SCP-4528 is stored in must have drainage in case of improper storage. The inside of SCP-4528’s box must be made of a material resistant to reactive damage to prevent damage to the container. SCP-4528 can not be destroyed by chemical reactions. If SCP-4528 is found outside of containment, it must be picked up with gloves made of a non-porous material (see Test 4528-1). Before re-containment SCP-4528 must be emptied of all liquids stored inside, and for this reason SCP-4528 must be stored at Site-███ in a room where large quantities of liquid can be disposed of or stored. If attempting to transport SCP-4528 in multiple instances, each must be contained in their own boxes as SCP-4528 will attempt to reconjoin to form one instance.

Description: [See Attached Image] SCP-4528 is a sizable yellow porous sponge, SCP-4528 in its original condition is a rectangular prism with rounded edges. SCP-4528 was found in ██████, Connecticut; in an abandoned factory for the ██████ company. SCP-4528’s anomalous properties are as follows: SCP-4528 can absorb any amount of liquid of any type. Liquids stored in SCP-4528 are contained indefinitely until squeezed out. It has been concluded after tests that the most recent liquids absorbed by SCP-4528 are the first ones that are expelled, followed by the next most recent liquid after. Liquids contained in SCP-4528 are not subject to the laws of physics as they would be outside of SCP-4528, for example, liquids stored inside SCP-4528»such as water«will not be vaporized by external heating of SCP-4528 (See Test 4528-2). SCP-4528 is impervious to chemical damage (See Test 4528-2). SCP-4528 can extract liquids from porous materials in direct contact with SCP-4528. SCP-4528 has been theorized as a potential Thaumiel Class anomaly to be used on liquid-based SCPs. The foundation was alerted to SCP-4528’s existence in 1968 upon reports of the factory remaining dry during flooding. SCP-4528 can be cut up into multiple instances, but it has been found that bringing the instances close to one another causes them to reunite into a single instance. Upon discovery SCP-4528 was discovered under a pile of rubble sitting in a small pool of water. Because MTF team’s standard equipment has them wearing gloves they were able to pick up SCP-4528 and transport it. Foundation personnel discovered that SCP-4528 regularly gives off a small amount of liquid due to being slightly compressed by gravity.
