Special Containment Procedures: Due to its uncontainable nature effort is to be placed on obscuring the presence of SCP-XXXX in affected individuals.

Medical records are to be monitored for reports of persons who complain of changes to their personality following significant physical trauma. Such cases are to be investigated and if SCP-XXXX is determined to be present, psychological reports are to be falsified diagnosing it as an expected response to the trauma experienced.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to changes in an individuals personality or character which are preceded by physical injury but which are not observed to be caused by damage to the brain of the individual or to be related to other psychological changes following the injury.

Specifically, SCP-XXXX presents as a reduction in some aspect of the affected individuals personality or character. In some cases this may be a relatively minor aspect such as preference for a particular food. However in most cases this change affects a major aspect such as the creativity of the individual.

Addendum-XXXX-1: SCP-XXXX has recently been observed in an individual following an accidental injury inflicted through the use of a kitchen knife. Containment procedures have been amended to widen the monitoring of medical reports.

Draft Thoughts:

• Part of the sting is knowing that this sort of damage to a person is possible at all i.e. knowledge of this form of personal damage existing is a threat to normalcy.
• To reinforce this I could end the SCP with an addendum where this form of damage is discovered in less traumatic incidents, in particular in something mundane that could happen to anyone (and probably has happened at some point in most people's life).
• Possibly add to containment procedures to cover cases where anomalous source of personality changes is found and/or cases where SCP-XXXX-affected persons are found who have not left any medical records: "If persons affected by SCP-XXXX or associated individuals show suspicions or awareness of the anomalous source of personality changes resulting from SCP-XXXX they are to be treated with amnestics and provided with ."

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a Safe-class containment locker at Site-64. SCP-XXXX-1 affected individuals within the Foundation may be reassigned to roles where their condition does not prove detrimental to performance, or may continue their previous roles if this criteria is already met. Affected Foundation staff must wear clear identification at all times. Any members of the public found to be affected by SCP-XXXX-1 are to be contained in standard humanoid containment units.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a modified Behringer¹ brand rack-mounted audio compression unit. Most original components of the device are unmodified, however the audio input connector has been replaced by a standard HDMI video connector. As well all controls for the device except for the power switch have been removed or disabled. Additional circuitry of unknown function has been added between the input of the device and the original audio-processing circuitry.

The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX manifest when it is switched on and an image capturing device, designated SCP-XXXX-A, is connected to the input of SCP-XXXX while a device capable of audio output, designated SCP-XXXX-B, is connected to the output of SCP-XXXX.

When SCP-XXXX-A is directed at an object and the object is positioned such that it is able to be affected by sound waves generated by SCP-XXXX-B the object is subject to a change designated as SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1

Draft thoughts:

• Level of detail depends on resolution of image capturing device. Using a microscope would cause microscopic details to be affected, but this would be invisible to humans due to not being able to see at a microscopic level. An image capturing device without enough resolution to even distinguish details visible to the human eye would have no affect on subjects.
• Foundation would mostly test on objects, no need to do many human trials beyond establishing basic effect.
• Device is running when Foundation find it, resulting in Foundation personnel being exposed to SCP-XXXX-1. For this to happen, the creator has to have needed to rapidly escape without even turning off the device (doesn't make sense for it to keep running if the creator simply abandoned it, and it's not dangerous as such so not point leaving it running as a trap for anyone looking for the creator)
• Creator is someone familiar with anomalous electronics, but not particularly smart or resourceful (hence Behringer equipment), and did not think through what the actual effect of the compressor would be. Device is also not exactly functional as intended, because disabling it returns average noticeability levels to the same as before, but loses dynamic range permanently. Intended effect would be to simply disable the effect and return to normal.
• Focus is not on the creator i.e. no name/alias, this is not the start of a series about them, they're simply an anonymous anomalous electronics engineer. Also avoid notes or descriptions of the device from the creator, the focus is on the effect of the device, not on what the creator was doing/thinking. Can designate them a PoI but no more than that.
• Controls are removed because compressor controls are for a time-varying signal and for variation in the on/off of the compression. Compression is permanent, so on/off variation does not make sense, and intention of the device was to simply affect what was in front of it, not to move the image capturing device around.
• What happens if a video recording or photo is fed into the input?
• What happens to objects without much detail? Not much…

• under rare circumstances, two regions of space become indistinguishable as macrostates from the perspective of general relativity (even if microstates are different)
• from a universal perspective they cannot be distinguished, and therefore are the same region of space
• matter within each of the affected regions of space is therefore no longer distinguishable and "merges"
• still distinguishable states from other perspectives, therefore no loss of energy, however it could be a loss of information?
