Description: SCP-XXXX is a park located in [redacted], Oklahoma. The park occupies a small wooded area between [redacted] and [redacted] street near a decommissioned railroad. A variety of wildlife can be found within, from the common squirrel to stray cats. Every year, from March [redacted] to May [redacted], all birds that enter the park gain the ability to "steal" whistles. All known birds with this ability are dubbed SCP-XXXX-1 through -37 respectively.

Idea notes here! Birds like stealing shiny objects from their owners. Birds also like mimicking things! So what happens when birds steal sounds to mimic them? In this case, it's what they call whistles, and their definition varies greatly from ours. Also turns out chaos ensues. But hey, the birds can be quite comical!

Birds themselves are funny. Start as 14 subjects, from cardinals to finches. All local wild birds that migrated in and gained the ability to steal "whistles" from things. Tests ensue, showing that they can steal the sound from humans, animals, and objects. Notable tests include the following:

• a video lost it's audio of a whistle, but the object in the recording could still whistle.
• another bird lost all noises since it sounded like whistling
• a parrot lost the ability to whistle and make basic bird noises, but not speech
• the head researcher, Dr. Maria Vale, lost the ability to whistle due to misunderstanding the criteria (containment of SCP-XXXX-1 instances changed to ensure enclosure was insulated so any "whistling" outside containment isn't picked up by them)
• birds with multiple whistles let their retrieved hatchlings steal a whistle from them (notably, all instances seem to have a favorite they refuse to use around hatchlings without a whistle of their own)
• recording versus real whistle test showed a preference towards the real noise

A year later, spring rolls around again, and boom. New flock. The park was deemed to have no anomalous qualities with prior testing due to the time period of activity having just ended when testing began. That, alongside a very small level of observation of the park itself, led to multiple new instances of SCP-XXXX-1 leaving the park and causing multiple casualties. These include:

• an instance stealing the whistle of a train, leading to a collision with a school bus: 17 casualties
• an instance stealing a semi-truck horn, using the "whistle" to send cars off the highway: 9 casualties
• an instance stealing the sound of a tornado siren: 39 casualties
• an instance stealing the voice of an opera singer: 1 casualty (high note sung next to a stagehand led to a nasty tumble)

Tests on the park and birds ensue, revealing the variety of what a whistle can be (depends on the individual bird). Captured instances also reveal some seem to have had this change done to them prior to the Foundation's discovery of the park. Some SCP-XXXX-1 instances expected to still be at large. Task Force formed, dubbed the Whippoorwill Whistlers, to locate and contain any potential instances of SCP-XXXX-1.
