Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a low value item storage locker on subbasement level 2 at Site 87 along with the two three interchangeable filter lenses designed for use with it, designated SCP-XXXX-01 through SCP-XXXX-03 in order of acquisition by the Foundation. Access to the locker requires clearance from a Level 2 Supervisor. SCP-XXXX is not to have any form of power source installed within it during storage. If at any point power is supplied to SCP-XXXX outside of a designated testing scenario, it must be kept within another light source of any kind, including but not limited to; neon, incandescent, florescent, UV, ultraviolet or infrared to prevent premature or accidental manifestation of SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties.

SCP-XXXX after being recovered by the Foundation

Description:
SCP-XXXX is a military-issue Fulton MX-99/U angle-head flashlight, similar to the type produced by the US military in 1963. The actual age of SCP-XXXX is unknown. It consists of an olive drab plastic casing, light bulb, internal battery storage, activation switch, and belt clip. (See attached image in Supplemental Materials.)

SCP-XXXX can be powered by two standard "D-cell" batteries of any brand. Non-standard power sources should not be used to power SCP-XXXX. Any batteries inserted into SCP-XXXX do not seem to gain or retain any anomalous properties and can be disposed of after use by standard disposal procedures.

SCP-XXXX was brought to the attention of the Foundation after reports of strange phenomena in the rural areas around ██████████████, ███████ of people finding strange things in a mineshaft near the outskirts of town. MTF teams recovered SCP-XXXX from the home of Adam Rothschilde, who was taken into custody by the Foundation after ranting about how the flashlight was 'possessed by the devil'. A subsequent search and study of the mine showed that it had no anomalous properties. (See Interview Log XXXX-Rothschilde in Supplemental Materials.)

SCP-XXXX exhibits anomalous properties when activated in any space with no other forms of light, visible or otherwise and its power switch is turned on. During a successful SCP-XXXX activation, the user of SCP-XXXX is transported to an alternate dimension (Hereby referred to as DXXXX) of currently unknown location. The method in which this transportation happens is currently unknown. DXXXX is completely devoid of all light, and any lighting devices, electrical, chemical or otherwise, fail to produce any form of illumination while in this dimension despite seeming to suffer no malfunction during operation. To date, the only form of illumination that has managed to manifest in DXXXX is the light produced by SCP-XXXX.

Radio and satellite signals do not seem to function anywhere inside of DXXXX nor can signals be sent to or be received from equipment taken into DXXXX. Video equipment does function inside of DXXXX, however does not seem to register the light produced by SCP-XXXX, thereby rendering any video footage of the dimension completely useless. Audio recordings can be made while inside DXXXX however and audio logs from expeditions conducted within DXXXX make up the bulk of information acquired during these expeditions.

Turning the power switch off, or otherwise extinguishing the light produced by SCP-XXXX (Such as power failure from dead batteries) while inside of DXXXX will transport SCP-XXXX and it's user back into our dimension within the closest available place that is devoid of all light, relative to distance traveled in DXXXX.

Known filters:

  • SCP-XXXX-01 is a small plastic filter lens in a blue color. Recovered with SCP-XXXX.
  • SCP-XXXX-02 is a small plastic filter lens in a green color. Recovered with SCP-XXXX.
  • SCP-XXXX-03 is a small plastic filter lens in a yellow color. Recovered during expedition XXXX-05. (See Expedition Log: XXXX-05 for details.)

Note: Non-anomalous replacement lenses designed for use in MX-99/U style flashlights do not seem to manifest the same results as the recovered filter lenses.

Please Note: Due to the nature of DXXXX's complete radio silence, any teams sent to explore DXXXX will be completely cut off from Foundation monitoring during the duration of the expedition, therefore D-Class personnel are prohibited from use in testing within DXXXX due to high risk of security breach.

Addendum-01: Due to complications in recovery after experiment XXXX-02 (See Experiment Log: XXXX-02) A GPS tracking device is to be affixed to SCP-XXXX at all times.

Addendum-02: As of 11/29/2008, testing with SCP-XXXX is completely prohibited without authorization of the current Site 87 Director. (See Expedition Log: XXXX-06 for details.)
