Item #: SCP-5179
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5179-1 is contained at site-██, an iceberg located in the arctic sea. SCP-5179-1 is to be encased in a box comprised of lead with a hole at the top to prevent the destruction of its container. All personnel responsible for the containment of SCP-5179 are required to wear radiation suits. Foundation operatives are to patrol the surrounding waters around SCP-5179 in an area of 60 kilometers. If an unauthorized individual somehow manages to get access to SCP-5179-1 they are to be detained and given a Class-A amnestic. However if an unauthorized individual comes into contact with SCP-5179-1 after a SCP-5179-2 event they are to be reported missing and not to be recovered.
Description: SCP-5179-1 is a standard issue firework made by the company TNT Fireworks. SCP-5179-1 will remain in an inactive state until its activation conditions are met what these are and how common they occur are currently unknown. The duration of time between the inactive and active phases vary per year but SCP-5179-2 events always occur at least once a year. During SCP-5179-1's inactive state SCP-5179-1 floats 2 meters from the peek of the iceberg. Once SCP-5179-1 goes into its active state SCP-5179-1 will launch into the air causing a SCP-5179-2 event to begin. No methods of preventing SCP-5179-1 from firing have been successful.
SCP-5179-2 is a phenomenon of lights that are visible in the northern hemisphere. The lights produced by SCP-5179-2 have not produced any anomalous properties as of yet. After an SCP-5179-2 event concludes SCP-5179-1 will rematerialize after 1 hour. After SCP-5179-1 rematerializes high doses of gamma radiation discharge from SCP-5179-1 within 30 kilometers of its materialization point for 5 to 10 seconds. Since the lights caused by SCP-5179-2 are not able to be contained the Foundation enacted Protocol-5179-Alpha1.
SCP-5179 was discovered by the Foundation in 1921 when operatives received reports of over 70 ships going missing in the arctic sea. SCP operatives discovered SCP-5179-1 during an inactive state allowing the Foundation to form site-██ around it. The TNT Fireworks company has claimed to have no knowledge of SCP-5179-1 or its connection to SCP-5179-2. No further instance of SCP-5179-1 has been located. Foundation operatives are to investigate anything resembling an SCP-5179-2 event such as the Aurora Australis2.
