Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX and instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be stored in a standard safe-class containment locker at Site-19. Agents or researchers seeking access to SCP-XXXX must obtain written authorization from two individuals with security clearance level 3 or higher, or one individual of clearance level 4.
Individuals utilizing SCP-XXXX must be implanted with a tracking and identification device, to be deactivated upon return of SCP-XXXX to its containment locker.
No individual shall be permitted to use SCP-XXXX for a period exceeding 72 cumulative hours. If an individual exceeds this limit, they are to be taken into custody, administered class A amnestics, and observed for up to two weeks for lingering effects of SCP-XXXX before being discharged. Individuals displaying symptoms of SCP-XXXX’s effects after amnestics are applied are to be terminated to prevent the creation of instances of SCP-XXXX-1
Description: SCP-XXXX is a plain, white mask lacking any manner of distinctive features. The mask is designed to cover the entirety of a person’s face but lacks any mechanism to hold the mask in place. The mask appears to be made of a plastic-like material, however it has proven to be far more durable than any known plastics currently in production.
SCP-XXXX’s anomalous properties only manifest when the mask is worn by a human subject with the express intent of impersonating another person. Once placed over the subject’s face, the mask molds itself over the individual’s face automatically, and remains in place until removed. Once removed the mask reverts to its default appearance.
While worn, SCP-XXXX grants its wearer the ability to perfectly impersonate any other human the wearer desires, the wearer’s appearance will change into an exact replica of the impersonated human to all observers, including the wearer. The wearer will also gain the ability to perfectly emulate the voice, mannerisms, and dialect of the impersonated human when speaking. SCP-XXXX does not grant its wearer conscious access to the memories or skills of the impersonated human, however they will unconsciously be able to flawlessly perform any task or correctly answer any question presented to them in order to maintain the impersonation.
SCP-XXXX can be removed by the wearer by peeling it off, starting from about halfway down the subject’s neck. It may also be removed by any other individual via the same method, however the individual must be consciously aware of SCP-XXXX’s presence and act with the express intention of removing it, otherwise the wearer’s skin will appear seamless.
Subjects wearing SCP-XXXX for extended periods of time begin to suffer from progressively worsening psychological symptoms, detailed below
72 hours – Subject experiences random periods of disassociation when not wearing SCP-XXXX. Subjects report confusion and distress when seeing their own face in the mirror or in recorded media.
84 hours – Subject’s dissociative episodes become more frequent and last longer. Subjects report feeling as if they are an imposter in their own lives. This is the final stage where amnestics can reliably reverse the progression of these effects.
90 hours – Subject develops extreme paranoia, believing they are still wearing SCP-XXXX and impersonating themselves. Subject will begin to obsessively claw at their neck in an attempt to “remove” SCP-XXXX from their face. Amnestics provided at this stage have a 50% success rate, with the subject relapsing within a week the rest of the time. Additionally, subjects that reach this stage begin to progress to later stages regardless of whether or not they continue using SCP-XXXX, though use of SCP-XXXX does accelerate the process
94 hours – Subject begins to lose their sense of identity completely, forgetting memories and disassociating near constantly. Amnestics have only a 10% success rate at this stage.
96 hours – Subject completely loses their sense of self. They forget all memories of who they were, and at this stage the subject typically falls into an unresponsive state similar to brain death. At this time, an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 appears on the nearest flat surface by the subject. No known treatments can restore the subject once the instance of SCP-XXXX-1 has appeared.
SCP-XXXX-1 is a mask that appears to be a perfect replica of the subject’s face. Wearing of this mask produces a similar effect to SCP-XXXX but only allows impersonation of the subject that produced the instance of SCP-XXXX-1
