Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5848 is to be contained in a standard storage locker at Site-█, itemized and labeled as locker 842-848. This locker should only be accessed by Level 3 personnel and higher.
Description: SCP-5848 is a box originally containing 50 (fifty) black colored medical face masks, but as of ██/██/20██, contains forty-two (42) black colored medical face masks manufactured and distributed by ████████ Pharmaceuticals. They appear to be regular medical face masks but if equipped by a living being over the mouth and nose, it becomes an instance of SCP-5848-1.
Occurrences of SCP-5848-1 instantly lose all memory of their personal lives, such as their relationships, childhood, and hobbies but retain their knowledge of academics. After losing these memories, they also cannot create new memories that pertain to anything outside of academia. Immediately after wearing the face mask, SCP-5848-1 will become comatose for up to 6 hours. After waking, SCP-5848-1 gains a significant level of medical knowledge in a specific field. If instance of SCP-5848-1 is already a medical professional, their field of knowledge isn’t randomized, and will instead perfect their knowledge of the field they already practice.
SCP-5848-1 are vacuous beings that no longer need to sleep or eat. Instances of SCP-5848-1 are subservient, and will comply with any command relating to their specific field. Anything else spoken to SCP-5848-1 will be met with silence and apathy. If any attempt is made to remove a mask from SCP-5848-1, it will respond with hostility until the attempt is stopped, or either of the subjects in the conflict are dead. If an attempt to remove the medical face mask is successful, SCP-5848-1 will age rapidly and perish.
Should an instance of SCP-5848-1 be destroyed, the remains should be immediately disintegrated.
Addendum [SCP-5848A]: Dr. ██████ has approved the usage of SCP-5848 on D-Class subjects. Enclosed are several experiments regarding SCP-5848.
Addendum [SCP-5848B]: ██/██/20██: D-19321 was instructed to equip the mask. Upon doing so, D-19321 went into a comatose state and awoke approximately 5 hours later, as an instance of SCP-5848-1. It’s field of study was determined to be immunology. It was given the ingredients needed to create an influenza vaccine, and created it by hand.
Upon an attempt to remove the facemask, SCP-5848-1 neutralized two agents, and injured an additional agent. When the face mask was finally removed, the SCP-5848-1 aged rapidly, and was promptly disintegrated.
Addendum [SCP-5848C]: ██/██/20██: Researchers gave the facemask worn by D-19321 to another Class D subject, D-26102. The subject was hesitant at first, seeing the blood spatter on the mask. However, the subject eventually equipped the mask. After the comatose state, the SCP-5848-1’s field of study was also found to be immunology. SCP-5848-1 was brought to the dedicated containment cell.
Addendum [SCP-5848D]: ██/██/20██: D-21200 was found to be guilty of 2 counts of sexual assault. Their field of study was determined to be urology. SCP-5848-1 was brought to the dedicated containment cell.
Addendum [SCP-5848Da]: The field of study that each SCP-5848-1 instance practices will likely be determined by the first person to equip the specific mask, and specific traits that happened in that person’s life.
Addendum [SCP-5848E]: ██/██/20██: D-21901 and D-21902 were brothers, and found guilty of triple homicide, using a machete as the murder weapon. D-21901’s and D-21902’s IQ was found to be 92 and 97, respectively. The D-Class subjects were instructed to wear SCP-5848. Upon becoming SCP-5848-1, both of their field of study was general surgery.
The SCP-5848-1 in question were told to perform an emergency heart transplant on a 58 year old man named Carl ████████. The surgery was completed in an hour and thirty-five minutes, and ████████ made a full recovery. Nicknamed Dr. A and Dr. B, they were relocated to the medical wing of Site-█, where they joined the surgery team.
Addendum [SCP-5848F]: ██/██/20██: Researchers wanted to determine if SCP-5848 can affect non-human species. SCP-5848 were attached to three animal subjects, including a house cat, a Komodo dragon, and a chimpanzee. SCP-5848 did not work on the house cat and the Komodo dragon. The chimpanzee, however, went into a comatose state and became SCP-5848-1.
The SCP-5848-1’s field of study was found to be optometry. However, upon being instructed to give a D-Class subject an eye exam, it refused. However, when it was instructed to give another chimpanzee an eye exam, it did so. SCP-5848-1 was brought to the dedicated containment cell.
Addendum [SCP-5848Fa]: Dr. █████ theorizes that primates can use SCP-5848 and become SCP-5848-1, however further testing needs to be approved.
Addendum [SCP-5848G]: ██/██/20██: Dr. █████ requested an infant human to attempt an experiment using SCP-5848. Access denied.
