Item #: SCP-6666
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SPC-6666 is to be held within a sound-proof, hermetically sealed storage vault in Sublevel Seven of Site █████. All personnel to interact with SPC-6666 may do so only with written authorization by Containment Specialist Doctor ████████. The nature of SPC-6666 makes visual observation dangerous. No agent is to maintain visual observation of SPC-6666 for longer than 30 days. Each Agent observing SPC-6666 is to be administered Class W Amnestics and undergo psychological evaluation and blood analysis daily. The vault containing SPC-6666 is to undergo bacterial, fungal and viral decontamination procedures weekly. No languages other than French, Arabic, Japanese and Mandarin may be spoken on sublevel seven of Site █████.
Anyone directly exposed to SPC-6666 is to be treated as a Priority 4 Contagious Biohazard in all protocols, including mandatory quarantine. A list is to be maintained of anyone exposed to SPC-6666 as well as those who have visually observed SPC-6666 and given yearly psychological evaluations to test for SPC-6666-1.
Description: SCP-6666 consists of a small, leather-bound journal held closed by a small brass peg and a seven centimeter piece of hemp string. The interior paper contains the handwritten notes of Doctor ███████ written in primarily black ink. The notes detail a seven month period of time between March ████ and September ████ and detail Doctor ████████'s daily experiences during early research and development of Amnestic Drugs.
The disease, heretofore known as SPC-6666-1, is thought to be memetic in origin. Vector for SPC-6666-1 has yet to be determined but is thought to be found within the auditory or written words within the journal. Symptoms of exposure typically begin within 48 hours, but the disease is capable of undergoing dormancy for an undetermined period of time, causing those exposed to become hosts for SPC-6666-1. Exposed subjects present with painful ringing in the ears, distraction, ███████ to █████ and a feeling of being “spaced out”. Early observed symptoms include dialated pupils with slowed pupillary contraction, difficulty concentrating and sensitivity to sound. Early and mid-stage MRI and CT scans reveal mild bruising and an accumulation of ███████ ██████ █████. Late stage instances of SPC-6666-1 present as confusion and “word salad”. Scans show an enlarged auditory cortex which eventually ruptures, at which point the subject becomes an instance of SPC-6666-2.
Instances of SPC-6666-2 do not react to pain stimuli of any kind. SPC-6666-2 will vocalize a flawless version of the last sound it has heard and seemingly random words. SPC-6666-2 is capable of sight assuming it still possesses visual organs. Primary method of navigation is based on hearing. They will react to any sound by approaching it, but language is preferred above all other sounds. SPC-6666-2 will react violently to others not already exposed to instances of SPC-6666-1. Due to the violent nature of instances of SPC-6666-2, vectors of SPC-6666-1 are, of yet, unknown. No successful infections from SPC-6666-2 vectors have occurred under laboratory conditions.
When kept in soundproof rooms, SPC-6666-2 instances show signs of extreme agitation as well as deteriorated ability to navigate its surroundings. SPC-6666-2 will vocalize as a form of self-soothing but if external sound is not provided, it will begin to inflict severe injury upon itself. It is speculated that this may be to provide an external sound. All instances of SPC-6666-2 self-terminate within 12 hours of being exposed to a sound proofed room.
Addendum: Originally marked as Class Safe, SPC-6666 was upgraded to Class Euclid in 20██ after Incident 6666-1. Due to its upgraded status, SPC-6666 was moved to a more secure location.
Incident Report 6666-1: At approximately 02:53am ██/██/20██, Doctor ██, assigned as a secondary researcher testing the effects of photocopied pages of SPC-6666 on thirty Class D Agents from ██/██/19██ to ██/██/19██ is reported to have broken into the security vault containing SPC-6666. Doctor ██ was terminated at approximately 03:27am by security personnel. Autopsy revealed that Doctor ██ was an instance of SPC-6666-2. Auditory Cortex remained intact with high levels of CSF. Exposure is assumed to have occurred during research and instance of SPC-6666-1 remained formant during the interrim.
Incident Report 6666-2: At approximately 04:22am on 12/23/20██, three instances of SPC-6666-2 were reported breaking into the vault containing SPC-6666. Instances were terminated by Decontamination Procedure 1-3A. Identification revealed that at least one of these instances belonged to Test Group 6666-3C and were released after negative test results in 19██ and administered Targeted and General Amnetics. It is currently unknown how the instances of SPC-6666-2 knew the location of SPC-6666. Autopsies were consistent with SPC-6666-2. High levels of CSF present in nasal cavity and ear canals.
Experiment Log 6666-2B: Controlled experiment exploring effects of translated journal entries on Class D personnel. All personnel transcribing entries tested positive for SPC-6666-1. Transcripted languages are French (Test Group A), Arabic (Test Group B), German (Test Group C), Japanese (Test Group D) and Mandarin (Test Group E). Test subjects reading transcribed material tested negative for SPC-6666-1. Test Groups B, D and E tested negative for SPC-6666-1. Test Group A exhibited mild confusion in 25% of tet subjects and are considered hosts for SPC-6666-1. Test Group C showed increased CSF levels in 60% of test subjects, with 7% of exposed subjects becoming instances of SPC-6666-2.
