Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a secure locker in Site-██. Experimentation involving SCP-XXXX requires clearance from at least two (2) Level 3 or higher personnel. SCP-XXXX is to never be removed from its locker unless used for experimentation.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-A are to be terminated on sight via gunfire except for during testing. Testing involving SCP-XXXX-A instances is to be held in a heavily secure concrete-blocked cell with a reinforced partition separating the entities from the researchers.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an electronic cigarette matching a model produced by JUUL Labs, Inc. The side of the item bears the words "[EXPLETIVE REDACTED] THIS SCHOOL" written in crude letters using a black permanent marker. Its dimensions measure 9.4 x 1.3 x 0.5 centimeters. When not in use, it exhibits no abnormal properties and is indistinguishable from a standard e-cigarette of its model, with the exception of the "e-fluid" cartridge being held in place via unknown means. The "e-fluid" cartridge, determined to be creme brûlée flavor, does not appear to deplete during use.
SCP-XXXX was discovered on ██/██/2018 in the F-Hall boys bathroom at ████████ █████ High School in ███████, Texas following a fatal incident in which an instance of SCP-XXXX-A manifested, causing 42 casualties, including 33 students and 9 school faculty. Police arrived on scene after several distressed phone calls made by students and faculty. Upon encountering the entity, two more policemen were killed before it was successfully neutralized with gunfire. Shortly after news about the incident spread, the Foundation took over the affected area and administered Class-A amnestics to all the students, faculty, and first responders that encountered the SCP-XXXX-A entity, as well as anyone who heard about the incident. Further investigation revealed that the SCP-XXXX-A instance came from a male student in the aforementioned bathroom, whose corpse was found next to SCP-XXXX. The student was later identified as Blake ███████ who was in possession of SCP-XXXX shortly prior to the incident. It is not known how he obtained SCP-XXXX. Attempts to trace the origin of SCP-XXXX have thus far proved unsuccessful, as the object has no serial identification associated with it.
When SCP-XXXX is used by a subject, they will experience extreme pain in their chest and abdomen after roughly two minutes of use. Their lungs will then begin to mutate rapidly over the course of roughly seven to ten minutes, growing between four and eight claw-like appendages, which will cause severe internal damage to other organs, especially the heart. Then the two lungs will merge together and then form a cavity in the front resembling a large mouth in which sharp teeth will grow, at which point the mutation ends. Finally, the resulting entity, henceforth designated as an instance of SCP-XXXX-A, will use its appendages to claw its way out of its host’s chest, fatally rupturing their heart, ribcage, and other internal organs.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-A, while not observed to exhibit higher intelligence, are extremely hostile to humans. SCP-XXXX-A instances do not appear to possess a visual system, but are still capable of detecting humans from distances of up to 20 meters away. It is postulated that this is achieved via infrared sensing. The entities can clear barriers of up to four meters tall and have a recorded maximum speed of ██ km/h on their appendages. Their appendages measure from 25 to 40 centimeters long and have curved retractable claws at the end used for digging into flesh. They are not deterred when attacked and are resilient against lacerations, though they can be terminated with gunfire, fire, and explosives.
When engaging a human, an SCP-XXXX-A instance usually attempts to fatally damage the victim's chest cavity via traumatic laceration using its appendages. This process is completed within seconds and most victims succumb to severe internal bleeding. Survivors of the initial attack invariably suffer from irreversible damage to the ribcage. As dissection of captured SCP-XXXX-A instances have revealed the lack of a digestive system or any organ systems with similar functions, it is currently unknown why SCP-XXXX-A instances target humans.
SCP-XXXX-A instances are to be treated as top-priority neutralization targets due to their ability to terminate large crowds in their vicinity in exceedingly short periods of time. During neutralization, attempts to minimize collateral damage are advised, though this has been noted to be difficult and at times, unnecessarily dangerous.
Addendum: Study of the liquid inside SCP-XXXX’s cartridge has revealed the presence of prions that do not resemble any known proteins at this time. Further investigation is currently being undertaken.
