Over the span of the early 2040s, Earth is abandoned.
Following a continuous increase in the number and severity
of Lethe Events, the SCP Foundation elects to evacuate what
was left of the planet's human population and bring them to colonies
throughout the solar system. With faster-than-light space travel possible
for the Foundation since the 2020s due to the development of the Lang
Distortion Drive, humanity had been leaving its cradle for decades,
and soon after began staking claims anywhere around the sun with the
assistance of the anomalous. Now, with the limitations of an obligation
to protect Earth's humanity fading into the past, the
Foundation is born anew among the stars:
ruthless, benevolent, and driven more
toward scientific and corporate
advancement than ever before.
There is no veil, there is no home; welcome to the future.

1980s—2010s
First Steps
Following the end of the space race the Foundation takes a greater interest in outer space. Past encounters with extraterrestrial anomalies made it clear that Earth was not the only world affected by anomalous phenomena, and as human exploration of the solar system continued the need to research these phenomena rose. Beginning with joint ventures with NASA and other space agencies, the Foundation slowly establishes a network to monitor the solar system and stars, all the while exploiting paratech and other anomalies to covertly establish a presence beyond Earth.
Come the 2000s. Orbital Task Forces, containment stations in solar orbits, lunar areas and outposts on other planets form and expand. Progress is slow, space still being a challenge to traverse, but it is no matter — the first steps out of the cradle have been made.

Sometimes the best way to try colonizing a locale is to blend in with its environment. Just try to not focus on names too much when doing so.

byCyantreuse
"Knowledge of a concept, object, or entity will be expunged through anomalous means from the memory of the affected humans."

Breakthrough
The 2020s are when the world changes. In the aftermath of the veil's collapse, the Foundation that maintaining the Masquerade can no longer be a priority, and that staying on a planet easily susceptible to K-Class events will inevitably lead to extinction. Efforts on colonizing the solar system under Operation Gjallarhorn's Call begin. Mars and Venus become open to colonization, Ashburn Station is constructed as the largest of several new interplanetary habitats, and economic incentives are offered for all who are willing to embark on these ventures. People's eyes turn skywards.
At the same time interest in what lies beyond the solar system grows. The Extrasolar Activities Division is established in accordance with Project Heimdall to investigate, research, and contain extrasolar anomalies. The aim: ascertain the difficulties and dangers that an interstellar humanity would face. The Lang Distortion Drive, the first faster-than-light engine ever built by the Foundation is mass produced. What follows is rapid exploration of every star in a 50 light-year radius of the sun and the establishment of extrasolar outpost, wholly kept secret from the public.
It's a golden age of space exploration and the Foundation is at its forefront.

Globular Cluster Terzan 2. Hundreds of brilliant densely-packed stars, the home of countless alien species, territory of one of the largest Ortothan sects in the galaxy, and the site of an interstellar war. Why humanity needs to explore the cluster is unclear. The Bifrost Superluminal Engine, the newest and best in FTL propulsion, is redacted to hell and back. None of the cluster's residents even know why the war began.
The crew the Foundation sends in has to figure it out on their own.

"I never had much memory of Earth, and my parents weren't the holiday type, but after we left for Luna Korea and later were forbidden to return to Earth because of the Lethe events my parents couldn't stop wishing they were home. Year
2040-2050 (2041, 2046, […])
Main Storyline and Events
- after the disaster with SCP-3848 and all that happened in Broken Masquerade, the Foundation opened leeway for stuff like thaumaturgy and paratech to be used more publicly
- All the while the Foundation had been sending out probes with AIs and FTL drives powered with secretive thaumartugic rituals. However, all these engines have a problem: They are very prone to failure, and have on one occasion sent a probe far out of the local group into an intergalactic void (communication is achieved with thaumaturgic Ways, periodically opening one on the probe, sending a signal to a Foundation-run pocket dimension, then relaying it back into reality)
- Their first tests with the new FTL engines find that it only takes like a week to reach near the milky way's core from the solar system, which they still don't wholly understand the exact workings behind but are more than happy to use (note that the exact nature of the engine is hella redacted, since its actual nature is one way to get a lot of unwanted attention)
- Also I do imagine that colonization of the sol system is underway by this point, so some people will start noticing gravitational waves from the new FTL engines at their moon colonies and whatnot and then get the news intrigued
- So the Foundation has to start figuring out how to approach the public with "oh yeah we can travel to other solar systems with ease now"
Side Events
- I was also thinking there could be some side stuff about an anomalous space elevator that ends up forming on Earth that the Foundation begrudgingly leaves alone, since it isn't doing any harm and is aiding in space expansion
- I'm thinking you could probably get some good side stories about anomalous space colonization as well, with like thaumaturges trying to aid in building outposts, and then maybe some stuff with people magically dicking about in space
- It'd be a lot like the wild west where it's really hard to keep the ropes on everything but you can exert limited control
- AWCY? does moon graffiti
- You stare down upon the majesty of Jupiter and then out of the corner of your eye see a middle finger on ganymede
Technical Details
massive post about brain implants: http://sexycontainmentprocedures.tumblr.com/post/174929917047/in-my-broken-masquerade-tales-i-wrote-that-some
- Also, I imagine that all probes are largely run by AIAD-unit type stuff, which can better handle the speeds at which decisions are made in FTL than humans (though humans are sent with these probes to Terzan 2 after some anomaly-induced AI failures)
- Foundation personnel have brain implants (not localized; wired throughout the entire brain) running scripts in ED-K+
- Still no mind-reading/thoughts-reading, only capable of detecting biochemical changes in different parts of the brain (AKA mood and potentially intention)
- Also, the brain implants could lead to great drama with people who want to directly aid the Ortothans in their war effort
- Neptune is the main hub for Foundation FTL travel.
- It's the farthest out gas giant (ignoring the possible planet 9) from the sun so it'd also be the farthest out heavy gravity well for FTL ships to be pulled into. That and it's near the solar system's edge, so not a lot of colonists will be out there.
- Twelve Star's pocket dimension mirrors the spacetime of baseline reality and vice versa
- For example, the gravity well of a star in reality will exist in the pocket dimension but the star won't. It goes both ways, too — a star that exist in the pocket dimension will have its gravity well there and in baseline reality but no star will be present in baseline reality
