Working Notes
Space saver.
Writer-to-writer messages.
Everything down here will be for background working notes and ideas outside of the draft itself. I'll add more stuff to the other tabs later on. This section here will be an easy way for us to leave messages for each other without needing to keep sending PMs or rendezvous in the chat.
My process tends to involve a lot of breaking ideas and things down and then building them back up while writing, so hopefully that's alright. If you have any questions / comments / concerns about anything during the working process, please go ahead and share them here.

Anomaly
- …
Effects
Based on game mechanics:
- Enhanced awareness of their immediate physical condition (Health and Stamina)
- Duties and responsibilities appear to them as an "Objective List"
- Ability to accurately assess how much they can fit into their pockets / how much weight they can carry (Inventory)
- …
Narrative Story
- Focus on anomaly affecting one single character, rather than being a wider phenomenon (?)
- …
- While in containment, things can be shown through tests and incidents.
- …
- Something climactic like a boss battle happens (?)

Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a containment locker approximately 150 cm squared in site-19. Under no circumstances are any foundation personnel allowed to interact with SCP-XXXX, excluding during authorised tests. If any personnel are caught trying to access SCP-XXXX, they are to be apprehended immediately and be demoted to a lower position to avoid them being able to gain access to it again. Any individuals affected by SCP-XXXX are to be kept in a standard containment cell. Following Incident XXXX-A1, all individuals under the effects of SCP-XXXX must have planned timings for when they will be let out to roam the facility in order to do 'tasks' to occupy them, under surveillance, of course. These planned moments are to be arranged roughly once every 4 hours but in a manner to avoid notice of a pattern, excluding when the subject is asleep. These are avoid instances of SCP-XXXX-1 from causing distress to the individual. The subject must not be made aware of these plans under any circumstances following incident XXXX-A2.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is what appears to be an old game console similar in appearence to the 1983 Nintendo NES, albeit not having any branding of sorts. It is roughly 6 cm in height and 25 cm in both width and length and appears to be constructed out of plastic, the same kind used in many 80s gaming consoles. There is a cartridge inserted into it and single controller that seems to be connected to the main unit. A television similar to the kind from the 80's is also connected to it, but this also also in branding on it. SCP-XXXX begins to its display anomalous properties when an individual turns the console on. Despite not having any sort of power supply or cord to plug it into a power outlet, both the console and television turn on. The screen on the television displays a title screen, with the title "Bitty life" in a bubbly font along with imagery of what appears to be a cartoonish designed male child with a red baseball cap, blue shirt and black shorts riding on a skateboard in a neighborhood. An 8-bit voice, which can be assumed as belonging to the child, will say the title of the game upon first starting it up. A chiptune theme song will then play as the game waits for you to interact. The bottom of the screen says "Press any button to start". It should be noted that the only way to avoid being affected by SCP-XXXX is to quit the game and not pressing the button to start. Individuals have reported to feel compelled to obey the instructions on the screen.
If any individual decides to press the button on the controller, the screen turns off. It is here where SCP-XXXX starts to directly affect individuals in the form of SCP-XXXX-1.
SCP-XXXX-1 can only be perceived by the individual that 'played' the game. The following descriptions are entirely based on what the affected individuals have told researchers, but due to the fact that they have all given similar descriptions, it is taken as the truth;
According to interviews conducted, individuals will hear an 8-bit voice say "Hey!" Shortly after they press the button on the controller. Once the subject turns around, they claimed to see SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 has been described to be similar to the child seen on the title screen of the game. The only difference is that SCP-XXXX-1 consists of larger pixels, and thus has less detail. According to those affected, despite the fact that SCP-XXXX-1 is a pixelated character, it is able to appear normally in a 3-dimentional environment and it will always be facing directly at the 'player', excluding if viewed from top-down, where it is revealed that it is indeed 2-dimensional. After SCP-XXXX-1 gets the subject's attention, they will begin to speak in the form of text boxes that appear directly in the individual's field of view. Subjects have also reported to hear a cheerful chiptune jingle play during this encounter. SCP-XXXX-1 will introduce itself as 'Bitty' and then claim to be a 'clever kid here to help a buddy out!'. It is assumed that it was designed as a tutorial character due to the nature of its actions.
After the encounter, SCP-XXXX-1 will disappear after the individual looks away from it. After this, SCP-XXXX-1 will periodically appear again in the form of a text box, telling the 'player' to either do a certain series of tasks or give them advice on something. It has been noted that these instances hint towards events of particular importance to the individual and that SCP-XXXX-1 is 'preparing' them for. In one instance, a civilian (now in foundation custody), had been performing tasks to barricade itself since according to them 'bitty' has told them to make a place where no one can get to them and had given them instructions on how to do so (See document #XXXX-1)
Currently, 2 civilians 1 civilian and 1 D-Class (result of experiment XXXX-A) personnel are under the effects of SCP-XXXX. It has been noted that the longer someone fulfils the tasks given by SCP-XXXX-1, the more addicted they get. Subjects will starts to behave in a robotic manner when performing tasks given to it by SCP-XXXX-1, will act extreamly agitated if someone stops or slows down their progress and will also rage as if they had lost a game if they fail to complete their tasks on time. However, subjects return normal behaviour after the tasks are over. It is to also be noted that they become irritated if someone does not describe their tasks as 'quests', predicted events as 'boss battles' or 'levels' (depends on the severity and danger of the event) and does not refer to them as 'playing' once under SCP-XXXX's affects. It has also been stated by the individuals that SCP-XXXX-1 will reward them if they fulfil the tasks or punish them if they fail to complete them before the predicted event. According to them, they get 'buffs' if they succeed and 'debuffs' if they fail.
It is currently Unknown if SCP-XXXX has effected other individuals. Due to its nature, it is hard to know if a person is indeed a victim of it's anomalous effects or if they simply suffer from an addiction to video games or suffer from delusions. It is also of note that all subjects affected by SCP-XXXX can only see their own personal SCP-XXXX-1 and cannot see or interact with one belonging to another individual.
So far, SCP-XXXX-1 has predicted several breaches (See Incident XXXX-B2) and according to the affected individuals has also hinted at the arrival of a XK class 'end of the world' scenario. It is unknown when this will occur, but it has been roughly █ years since the foundation was made aware of these predictions.
Document #XXXX-1
SCP-XXXX caught foundation interest on 13/6/██ when reports of an 8 year old child attempting to build a bunker of some kind where reported on the news. The child kept saying "Bitty said they're going to get me, I need to defend myself!". Strangely, the child managed to lift and move several heavy objects such as large boulders, pieces of concrete and metals which a child of it's age normally would not be able to do. The foundation had also caught reports of a 28 man attempting the same thing (Subjects were not related to each other in any way). Both were taken into foundation custody.
SCP-XXXX was found in the house of the 8 year old child after it was requested to be brought to the foundation by them. After taking it into foundation custody, a junior researcher had accidentally turned it on.
SCP-XXXX was not plugged into a wall outlet or any kind of power source during this.
After this, experiments were conducted on SCP-XXXX and the child requesting for it was given other toys for compensation, which seem to make them happy. However, they still desired to have SCP-XXXX with them.
Document #XXXX-2:
Incident XXXX-A1
Roughly one week after a civilians under the effects of SCP-XXXX we're put in containment, they seemed to be acting distressed, anxious, paranoid and showed signs of low blood levels, malnutrition and in some cases even vomited due to nausea. Both civilians begged personnel to "Let them play the game". After this, proposals where made to the O5 counsel to allow those affected by SCP-XXXX to roam the facility so that they may fulfil the tasks given by SCP-XXXX-1. It was set that they'd be allowed out once every 4 hours.
Incident XXXX-A2
On 2/7/██, one of the civilians who was taken into custody (the 28 year old male) had asked if foundation personnel organised these times to be let out due to SCP-XXXX-1 (they referred to it as 'Bitty') during their final scheduled roaming time for that day. Dr.███ ████, the personnel accompanying them, responded to by confirming their suspicions. The subject was found dead in their cell the next day. A report found that the death was the result of a burst in a blood vessel in their brain, leading to a stroke. After this incident, the surviving civilian and the D-Class personnel affected by SCP-XXXX are to not be told about the true purpose of these arranged timings and if asked are to be told that they're simply let out for exercise and so that they may do as they please. Timings were also changed to be more random, but still organised, to avoid the subjects from discovering the true nature behind them. It has been theorised that if SCP-XXXX-1 is made aware of these fixed schedules, it will consider it as cheating and so it will 'end the game' for the individual. However, we have no way to confirm this.
