Special Containment Procedures:
Description: SCP-XXXX is a parallel dimension accessible through Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In and around the cemetery are small areas where baseline reality overlaps with that of SCP-XXXX, most frequently found adjacent or underneath grave plots. The majority of these overlaps are inconsequential, with the exception of SCP-XXXX-A.
SCP-XXXX-A is an open grave filled with 20 cms of muddy water, located at the edge of the Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is situated on the thinnest overlap between dimensions and thus serves as the primary ingress and egress of SCP-XXXX. Anything submerged within the water will eventually sink and reemerge on the other side.
SCP-XXXX's inhabitants are entities composed primarily of calcium, giving them a bone-like appearance. Denizens of SCP-XXXX universally place bones and teeth in high value and use them for a variety of purposes, such as construction materials, currency, and medicine.
I'm thinking about laying the description out like:
- The Grave + Location
- Its creation
- the dimension
- the denizens
SCP-XXXX-A is an open grave filled with 20 cms of muddy water, located at the edge of the Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Summary:
In the 1930s, the Foundation interferes with an occultist ritual and an MTF falls into a world filled with calcium-based creatures that use human bones in every aspect of their lives, from money, to food, to construction, based on what bone it is. Having previously relied on bones slipping through the liminal zone in cemeteries, the idea of a method to get bones fresh from the source prompts an attempted exodus, forcing the MTF to fight their way out. In the end, just a few members of the team escape, but so does a few denizens of the bone world, set on feeding on our world.
The smaller creatures that escaped at the end? We now know them as Tooth Fairies, a subspecies of the larger and more hostile Bone Faires [Collective Term], that exists symbiotically with humanity now. And their persistent gathering of teeth is the only thing keeping the rest of the fairie from entering our world and collecting bones the hard way
Ideas:
Lots of room for horrific body horror, especially with an MTF member having his bones removed while he's still alive, or potions that cause accelerated bone growth or the growth of additional bones
the "fairies" changed their shape to match folklore tooth fairies
The tooth fairies don't escape with the survivors, they escape in the survivors by laying eggs inside their bones which hatch a year later. You know, because that's a horrific visual.
Outline:
I think that Metaphysician's In the Court of Alagadda is a pretty solid example of how to set the stage for this kind of article. Set up the cult/fae lovers/explorers, layout the standard appearance of the setting and its denizens, then we go to the exploration logs. As always, less is more in this stage, but we can cut down on log length by establishing things here.
After writing 4793, which is 16k words of obvious narrative, I want to try to leave more to the imagination of the readers, so maybe only one largish log, and an interview with a survivor, followed by some excerpts from recovered cameras, where things get pretty nasty.
