Characters: 4 main characters, characterized by 4 tales.

Name: Failsafe aka: O5-13

Description: Failsafe is a remnant of the old world, a backup plan gone awry, a lone and confused wanderer in the desert with almost no memories of how he got there.

Background: Failsafe was a doctor within the SCP Foundation named Thomas Ark, a man devoted to early studies of the Oneiroi Collective, studying and documenting its various forms. On an expedition into the Collective a containment breach[?] occurred, with his original body being destroyed in the process, however, due to Dr Ark's connection with the Oneiori, this merely caused him to become stranded within the dreamspace. Due to the valuable insight provided and expertise of knowledge and emotions from within dreams Dr Ark was given the title of O5-13. He is a Failsafe if everything goes wrong, only able to vote in tiebreakers, he is kept safe in his dreamworld, keeping himself and all the Foundation knowledge backed up.

During these tales, something unknown goes wrong, killing much of the inhabitants of earth. This triggers a backup plan from within the deep storage of Site-01. Dr Ark if awoken. Placed into a humanoid body, fairly similar to an Anderson Saker unit. The only problem is, these bodies arent meant for the amount of info Dr Ark was storing. Things failed, data got corrupted, and Dr Ark forgot who he was.

The End: Failsafe re-finds out he is Dr Ark, setting in motion the plan the previous O5's put forth. Resetting the planet. Here, Dr Ark becomes the main antagonist, whilst the other 3 are merely here to discover the "Truth", Ark wants to revert the world, reestablish normalcy. In the end, he fails. [Killed by himself or one of the party members] but alongside this, all the knowledge he held is gone, lost to time, perhaps for the better.

Name: CHAMOMILE MARX JR. (they/them) - Laneous

Description: A engineer in the underground cityscape of Ceitu [number] and avid collector of ceramic frogs, Marx Jr. is person of curiosity, a person who often searches things that the whir loudly, Wonders that glow brightly, and machines that do both.

Background: Born in the city to people with names and lives lost to time, Marx Jr. formed their own identity. Their name was forged from the decrepit room contents of a long dead researcher with a fondness for tea and communist theory. With the city crumbling from age, they were one of the few sent to fix it. A suicidal effort, costing many lives, but resulting in a sustainable community. With many of Marx Jr.'s friends and mutuals being lost during the efforts, they became more and more reclusive, sinking into the less ventured halls to form their own life.

The End: uhh

Name: Caeda - Mars

Description: Caeda is one of the few practitioners of the Nälkä religion. As such, she is able to manipulate her flesh and bones to create protective armour that even the sharpest of swords are unable to break. She hails from The City and believes in The Way of the Flesh, one of the core Nälkä principles.

Background: Caeda was born in The City and was raised by her mother, who taught her everything she knew about the Nälkä religion. She learned to manipulate the flesh when she was young, but never quite mastered the craft. Caeda believes her mother was abducted by The Keeper of the Book and has a profound hatred for that cult. She thinks that they were after something from the Old World; a Wonder that will give one the ability to overwhelm their opponents in battle.

Caeda is determined to find that Wonder first.

The End: After Caeda joins the party and uncovers the truth about what happened to the world, she becomes vehemently opposed to the use of Wonders. She is initially intrigued by O5-13's prospect of returning the world to a state of "normalcy", and works with him after his betrayal has been revealed. However, once she understands what price normalcy comes with, Caeda turns her back on the O-5.

Name: Hekan - Ethagon

Description: Hekan is something akin to a historian. Carries a notebook and maybe some minor wonders with him. Has a lot of life experience.

Background: Originating from the Bookkeeper tribe, he thinks he was chosen by Geyre to record stories of the old and new world. His latest stop was in the city of the magician (maybe a reality bender) that the Bookkeepers were unable to conquer. There he heard a rumor about a ceitu that would hold all the answers he sought.

The End: Character catches on that O5-13 knows more than should be possible, but is excited to learn more about the old world. Still, as soon as it becomes clear O5-13 wants to revert the world he stands against it but is unwilling to kill the O5. After 13s inevitable demise, he is distraught over the loss of history but keeps on with his journey and the few recovered material (maybe in search for the other O5?) The character remains relatively unchanged throughout the story.

Tales:

Ethagon's tale: first tab
Hekan goes from city to city/village and records the stories of the inhabitants and is especially interested in their version of the gods and the old world. Probably 3 to 4 different stories, that all more or less point to 13's bunker. The final story tells about gods above Geyre only known as the 5 eyed ones. During this journey, Hekan remarks multiple times that he doesn't want to go back to the Magician who forced him to tell a good story every day or to dry out. The final village has a wonder protecting it. The Magician confronts Hekan, remarking he was only allowed to escape to collect more stories. The wonder of the village kills the Magicians guards and Hekan drowns the Magician in a lake, that the Magician created to drown Hekan. And Hekan goes out to the Bunker.

Moned's tale: [Lost]
O5-13 wakes from the Oneiroi, born into a new body. However, the information overloads his mind, causing him temporary amnesia. He stumbles across a desert and finds a city (meets Laneous' character). Throughout the story he has blackouts revealing who he is.

Final tale:
While searching through documents in an old site (Later found to be the bunker O5-13 resided in when going crazy)
- They find documents on all the overseers
- They find O5-13's file, "The Failsafe"

Timeframe: Somewhere after "The Book"

  • Make reference to a background war between "The Children of the Book" and "The Order of the Word"

Ideas:

- 4 characters with one tale each
- one is O5-13 "Failsafe" (has lost memory), becomes shadier after remembering, wants to revert the world back at the end, gets killed
- O5 has cool slip ups
- macguffin is a device that can restore the previous world probably per time travel
- Beller does not appear
- character or setting could have sarkic and/or "city in the east" connections
Place: Nexus, pocket dimension, Foundation Site and/or O5-13 Bunker
"time travel" may be "leaking" in the place towards the climax
Cause of the Apocalypse: Left Open, but tales hint towards a particular one
Brainstormed Apocalypses:
- massive containment failure
- fithist did it
- time shift
- virus
- meme
