Special Containment Procedures:

Description: SCP-2744 refers to former Foundation facility Site-404 and the anomalies contained within. Located in the Black Forest1, Germany, the site was constructed within a cave system embedded in a mountain range.2 Construction took advantage of the natural features, interweaving man-made structure with the rock formation. One of the first sites established, it was originally known by the moniker [RED VENICE] / [RED ALPHA] / [RED-25]3, before being renamed in the mid-twentieth century to comply with modern site etymology guidance. Originally one of the busiest and most staffed sites, operations were scaled back as the Foundation's administrative functions transferred to locations in North America.

On ##/##/##, Site-404 experienced a catastrophic containment breach details of which are, to this day, ambiguous and ill-understood. The events of the day which are known are catalogued from data transmitted offsite on the day, and Foundation data recovery efforts conducted after the event. Current understanding of events is catalogued below:

  • 05:45: Several anomalies in the Keter containment wing breach containment. Due to the early hour at which this occurred, all staff bar external guards were present within the facility.
  • 05:52: After failed attempts to contain the anomalies, Security attempt to contact Site Director Jocelyn Carter.
  • 05:54: Security fails to locate Carter due to the latter committing an unauthorised deviation from her approved and published schedule. The reasons for this, and Carter's whereabouts at this time, have failed to be identified. As a temporary measure, a full lockdown of the Keter Wing is initiated.
  • 06:00: Early shift staff begin their day, leaving the fortified Site dormitories and dissipating throughout the Site.
  • 06:03: After waking various other members of Site Administration, a meeting is held with Security. Minutes for this meeting were not taken. It is assumed Security provided a briefing of the situation.
  • 06:04: Keter Wing blast doors begin to register signs of structural damage.
  • 06:07: A mayday call begins to broadcast, but no details are given other than a containment breach has occurred. It is assumed this action was authorised through the Administration-Security meeting.
  • 06:10: A separate containment breach begins on the other side of the facility, in Containment Wing G4.
  • 06:11: Site Director Carter reappears and joins the Administration-Security meeting. Recovered video footage indicate hostilities between her and the other attendees. Sound footage was unable to be recovered.
  • 06:14: Keter Wing blast doors register signs of extreme structural damage.
  • 06:15: Director Carter issues a sitewide order to shelter in place. Site-404 staff become aware an incident is ongoing. She orders security to provide her with details of the uncontained anomalies.4
  • 06:17: After receiving this briefing, Carter rescinds the shelter in place order and retreats to her office next door.
  • 06:18: Carter announces via intercom the initiation of a Red-Level Sitewide Lockdown procedure. External blast doors begin to seal, communication and data transmissions begin to shutdown. Recovered security footage show members of Security and Administration attempting to break into Carter's office, but she has barricaded the door.
  • 06:19: Keter Wing blast doors go offline.
  • 06:20: Staff members successfully break into Carter's office.
  • 06:21: All communication from the site ceases. Lockdown has been successfully enacted.

AN: Alternatively, something shorter:

What is known is that, between 05:45 and 06:00 hours, several anomalies, located in separate containment wings, breached containment. At 06:21 hours, the Site Director issued an order for sitewide lockdown.

AN: Torn on whether we need the long list or the two sentences. Currently leaning towards two sentences. The long list was an attempt to establish the mood, set a creepy and uneasy tone. But I worry it's: 1) ultimately not going to matter, 2) going to make Carter seem like an important character when she's not, 3) it's going to be followed by ANOTHER list of spooky transmissions and recovered data from the Site. So I think I want to go with the smaller option, BUT Keeping it in to see if you agree. ~ Dys.
