KEY RULES:
- "Your team's body of work must fit together as a narratively cohesive and interconnected story in some way; dovetailing your pieces is encouraged. When put all together, your team's body of work should be able to stand on its own."
- "Ideally, your works should push the boundaries of the canon you've signed up for — it should expand the world, flesh it out, and bring new possibilities to the table. Think about what you can add to really turn these worlds alive."
- "A minimum of 4 articles must be written for the contest; there is no maximum number, but only the five highest-rated articles will count towards point total."
- "All of your pieces should be totally and unambiguously part of the canon you chose. Your works should follow the existing basic guidelines for the world and for writing that are set down in the hub page for your canon. While reimagination is part of the contest, keep in mind you're faithfully building on top of what already exists."
NARRATIVE:
Summary: The nexus free port of Eurtec (occupied by the GOC in Europe) becomes the primary setting of an illegal anomalous trade ring between the former SCP-035, MC&D, and the Underground paracriminals, such as the Demons and other outcasts. The protagonist, Adrian McKenzie, formerly an agent of the GOC, goes rogue from the organization in order to investigate and/or put an end to this trade ring. Meanwhile, the political and social stability of Eurtec is severely weakened by the influx in crime, creating intense rifts within the GOC controlled city, causing Adrian to remain cautious and adapt to the rising tensions.
ASPECTS THAT STILL NEED TO BE FIGURED OUT:
- What's Adrian's reasoning for leaving the GOC?
- What's Adrian's motivation in tracking down Alagadda and destroying the trade ring?
- What characters are being introduced?
- How does the story end? Will it ever end?
- What other conflicts arise from this city? Is there any outside, non-anomalous involvement?
- The format of the narrative, or how its portrayed towards the audience.
Setting:
"Eurtec is a GOC administrated cyberpunk city with significant class divide between the anomalous underground and the non-anomalous GOC authority. The upper city is a sort of beautiful futuristic landscape while the undercity is a literal criminal underground patrolled by GOC enforcers. The SH is attacking the city with a base of operations in the undercity because of the anomalous community's oppression by the GOC, leading to a lot of SH sympathizers." - Greyve
Premise:
Adrian Ross is a GOC operative. Jaiden Collins is his closest friend and colleague, who begins to question the GOC morals, eventually becoming disillusioned with their radical actions, eventually casting shadows of doubt on the once staunchly loyal Adrian's mind. One day, Collins is taken in a top-secret sting operation, but the GOC isn't willing to search for an operative who's been sent on a mission that no one's supposed to know about. Combined with Adrian's existing doubts, the frustration from the GOC's apathetic response to his best friend's disappearance motivates him to leave, stealing important documents and becoming a fugitive.
By the beginning of the narrative, Adrian is privately trying to uncover what happened during the operation and has discovered that it involves a human trafficking trade ring in the Eurtec underground. During his investigation, Adrian falls in favor with a Serpent's Hand-sympathizing rubedo gang, where he realizes that the Serpent's Hand's violent actions are for the betterment of the oppressed denizens of the lower city, whereas the GOC enforcers utilize actions for abstract goals and supremacist motives.
Upon recovering Jaiden, he learns that her doubts developed after she began to realize she possessed latent psionic abilities, and that the reason she was kidnapped was to be an amplifying host for 035, who currently has control of Dark, presumably of Marshall, Carter, & Dark, who was also a massive player in the underground rubedo trade. A gestalt consciousness has formed from all of the previous hosts, including the original Dark, who's been replacd by SCP-035, the source of all the rubedo.
In the final act, numerous Serpent's Hand-affiliated groups rebel against the GOC enforcers as Adrian and Jaiden try to stop SCP-035's stranglehold on Eurtec's anomalous technology, controlled through the amplifying gestalt consciousness.
Potential ending, Jaiden collapses the consciousness from the inside, destroying her identity, and Adrian is left alone in a new Eurtec.
