Addendum 3: Due to recent discoveries, the following has been appended to the description in SCP-XXXX's file:

Upon being exposed to blood or other animal flesh within five meters, a mature instance of SCP-XXXX, and all instances in its group, will bloom. After blooming, SCP-XXXX will die within 14 days. While in bloom, SCP-XXXX displays an alternate set of anomalous properties. It will:

SCP-XXXX-bloom

A mature instance of SCP-XXXX after blooming.

  • Strongly increase stress and aggression1 in fauna.
  • Increase frailty of carbon-based materials, with the exception of SCP-XXXX instances.
  • Diminish the anomalous properties of objects, with the exception of SCP-XXXX instances.
  • Anomalously infect the open wounds of fauna with a virus2.

Individual fauna infected by the virus from SCP-XXXX are considered instances of SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-1 instances become aggressive within 12 hours of initial exposure and feverish within 36 hours of exposure. Increased exposure to the virus, through multiple open wounds or contact with other infected individuals3, has the capacity to greatly accelerate the progression of this condition. If left unchecked, this fever will become fatal. Throughout this time, the tissue of SCP-XXXX-1 will slowly break down and create SCP-XXXX seeds by absorbing the broken down byproducts4. After SCP-XXXX-1 dies, it will rapidly decompose and become soil. At this point, all seeds within the deceased SCP-XXXX-1 instance will begin to grow into new instances of SCP-XXXX.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 have only been successfully cured through amputation of infected areas and treatment with antipyretics. While it is possible for an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 to survive the fever with appropriate medical treatment, the infected areas are likely to be infected by other pathogens, making amputation necessary for the subject’s survival in many cases.

Addendum 5: The previous decision to forbid the expansion of SCP-XXXX's usage in containment has been overridden by the 05 council. Reality anchors utilizing SCP-XXXX instances and containment precautions for them are to be used as necessary and maintained by appointed personnel. These reality-anchor devices must be made to appear identical to their technological counterparts to minimize scrutiny from personnel. This information is only to be distributed on a need-to-know basis.

"These flowers are dangerous, but so are the entities they contain. The chance of a chain-reaction has been considerably reduced, and we do not have all the time and resources in the world. The newly created Scranton Reality Anchors work, but we cannot afford to build and maintain more of them than necessary."

"Most importantly, however, we understand them now." -05-7
